Offical Hurricane Frances thread!

Bob - WOW! the 9/5 Wonder is already planning on avoiding CC and Nassau??? We don't sail until the 9/9 Wonder and I'm already freaked about making the flight from Los Angeles to Orlando -- we get in VERY early on the day of the cruise (like 6am)...this hurrican must look VERY bad if they are already cancelling the stops in CC and Nassau for NEXT week's cruises!
Did they say anything about a shipboard credit? Honestly...I don't care if it's a cruise to nowhere that we end up on next week - I mean, it would be disappointing? But at least we'd get to experience the Wonder! I'm just praying our flights don't get cancelled :(

I'm a really bad decision maker LOL!

We are supposed to be flying into WDW 9/7 thru the 15th. We are using frequent flyer miles and at this very moment we have the option if moving back our arrival until the 9th without a penalty. Normally it would be $300. Should we arrive on the 9th instead of the 7th incase there is massive damage to WDW? opinions please!!!!

I guess I'll jump in on this one! The suspense is killing me!!

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but they have scheduled Palm Beach County for evacuation. That is really close to Ft. Lauderdale, so I would think you could count that port out as an option for docking. It said over 500,000 people are to be evacuated starting Thursday. :(

They have closed all Dade, Broward and Palm Beach courthouses as of 1:00 pm on Thursday to allow people get out. No one is going to be moving their docking to the southeast this time.

I guess I should feel better snce I'm already scheduled to sail out of Ft. Lauderdale and that is where DCL is moving to. BUT, it doesn't look like they are out of harm's way either. Most airlines except United are already allowing rescheduling if flying into FLL. The hotel where I'm staying in FLL said it was expected to be very bad there. The group on the ship scheduled for Ft. Lauderdale departure are thinking that ship will have to go someplace else also....Miami?

Our counties schools are closed tomorrow and Friday.
KSC is closed tomorrow and Friday.

It is expected that evacs will begin tomorrow--that rules out Port Canaveral completely (b/c by saturday--it will be mandatory--and there will be a hurricane and all).

Hubby wants to leave at 5am tomorrow am and head to Disney world to get our minds off of this hurricane business.

Shutters going up--I should be helping--but he is cutting--and it makes me sooooo nervous...

But I tell--putting those bolts in--I feel like the tire guy in a nascar race--and if I knew how to type the sound effects, I would.

Some guy on another thread in another forum--totally blasted my evac plan about going to Disney b/c it is inland.

Word to the wise--before you go commenting on people's evac plans--you better be from the area and have a better plan before commenting on my plan

I just got off the phone with a DCL CM and was informed that the 9/5 sailing of the Wonder (if we are able to sail) will not be stoping in the Bahamas or Castaway Cay.

Looks like it will be a "cruise to nowhere"!

So much for our first Disney Cruise and going to the Bahamas and CC...

Lets just hope for the best for all of us including the people in FL.

Hey now, at least you don't have to worry about the storm hitting your home...you always have a chance to take a cruise again.

Is it like this every year for hurricane season? I was going to book for sept next year as we live in washington and never have to worry about it. But this to me seems not worth the cheep rate i'd get to go then. God bless everyone and staysafe.

Yep--that is why they have cheap rates--to encourage sailings then. We don't always get two hurricanes in a row--but pretty much each season there is a good chance that some cruise itineraries will be modified due to tropical weather.

Just was reported on CC that Pt. Everglades will be closing tomorrow, so DCL might have to come up with Plan 'C.'

Even though I'm a nervous wreck regarding our cruise that is supposed to leave in a couple of days, this won't keep us from booking another September cruise.

Is Brevard the Pt. Canaveral or the Ft. Lauderdale area? I am geographically challenged!

Brevard is the the county where PC is located. And yes, evacs at 2pm for coast areas in Brevard and evacs for Dade and Broward county coastal areas. Same for all counties on the eastern side of the state.

MCO closes Friday and many cruises can't complete their flights into the Orlando area? Do you think we'd be able to reschedule without penalty or would we lose our money?

BTW -- We have DCL travel insurance, but we booked flight on our own.

Orlando Sanford Airport will be closed on Friday.

Regarding your uninsured flight--call you airline--you might have until just before the scheduled flight to change or cancel your ressie.

I just saw this on Orlando's airport's website.

I too wish good luck on all those sailing this weekend and would like to offer this one bit of advice....KEEP YOUR HEAD during this trying time. You are going to be in contact with many, many, irate, nervous, anxious, frustrated, scared, unhappy people in airports, rental locations, hotels, on the road, etc. Know going into this that it will be a rough time for all.

DCL will try to do what is best but we all know they cannot please everyone with any decision they make in regards to embarkation port, ports of call, announcements, activities, etc.

Be the light in a dim situation....a smile can go a long way...you are all in this "boat" together..... pun intended!!

All the best.....

MJ
