Offical free dining watch 2008

The bounceback was not offered till the first week of September and not during the last week of August. The offer was on the the first two info pages on the tv in the room. It was both scrolling at the bottom of the pages and as a whole screen page showing the offer. It ight be wise to look for it there any time you stay so you don't miss out.

The bounce back offer was offered the last week of August. Though it wasn't the entire week, it began on August 30th. HTH

We just returned home last night. We had a wonderful magical trip!!! I am thinking of taking my daughter on a Mommy and Me trip in September. If I book my package now can I switch it to free dining? Also, should I book through Disney or AAA? If I book just my room can I later change it to a package and add park tickets and dining?

Yes you can. I booked a package with dining and when the free dining came out I switched it over. I did book though AAA and the one thing you need to know is that they have to make all changes for you. You can't call disney and ask for changes. You can call and verify everything but make no changes. My AAA agent was really good and I was happy with everything. AAA can get a discount on a package but if you call directly you can't, just a room discount. I have no idea what our package discount was but once the free dining came out I added 2 days to our trip and was still a couple hundred below a 4 day trip w/ dining. :)

We stayed at POR the middle of Sept and when we checked in there was a flyer in our room and I want to say another right before we checked out. From the boards, I had known in previous years it was offered. But we weren't planning on going back this year, we would have to take all 3 kids out of school and I just wasn't willing to do that again, especially with one starting Kindergarten and another starting middle school.

mom2mykids ... do you remember what type of discount on the package you got through AAA?? I am waiting on a qoute from them and am intensely curious as to what type of discount I might get. I know in value season I could get 20% off of room only, but I don't have a clue if the tickets and dining are discounted.

Also ... did you just call your AAA agent once you heard about free dining and he/she applied it (or changed it)? Or did he/she contact you about the offer?

TIA! :goodvibes

I filled out the quote form on the AAA website and then received an email. I knew of the rumor for free dining so when I booked I told her that was my plan, to switch to it. Then as April got closer and there was a rumor for a release date, I called her again. She took care of changing it for me. I don't know the exact discount. But I remember looking on the Disney site and AAA was cheaper. We paid $2264 for 5 (4 A, 1 C) with 6 day hoppers (no water parks) and dining, stayed at POR

If you have TA information to share with others please request they send you a PM. Thank you. safetymom

Has anyone here ever taken a crock pot to heat food in? I'm thinking things like hot dogs, sloppy joes, etc. I know others take toasters and this should be in the same catagory. I also know your not to cook in the resort rooms but I will only be heating. I'm I pushing this to the limit.
I'm just trying to think ahead just in case there's no free dining. We will cut back on meals eaten out and only have sandwiches and things in our room as much as possible.

Any help you can send me would be great.

Please, do not bring a crock pot in your room. Besides being not permitted by Disney, what happens if you forget to turn it off and it catches fire? What about the people in the adjoining rooms, do you think they want to smell the food cooking? There are toasters in the food court for everyone's use as well as microwave ovens. If you need to heat up a can of sloppy joes or spagettios, etc, you can do it there and no one will worry about it. Plus, there really isn't anywhere in the room to properly wash your crock pot after use.

Free dining is a great perk, but remember you will have to pay the gratuity on the full value of your meals.

WOW I didn't know this would bring such negative response. It was just a question. A little more gentle response would have been better. Didn't mean to upset so many. I do know that others have brought toaster ovens for heating. It is going on even if you don't know about it.

I did bring a toaster for our last stay inPOR. It was great for bagels, toast...I also brought a stack of paper plates, so i made sure to put the toaster on top of a paper plate to not make a mess. one day i forgot to unplug it, and mousekeeping had it unplugged when I came back into the room. No one ever said anything to me about it not being allowed. I am planning on bringing another one for our next trip in July.

I guess the same thing would happen in an apartment building. Lots of people live in those and are fine every day.

Ok I have a question. I have a Disney Visa and I know if they do offer Free Dining it will be to Disney Visa holders first. Here is my question...I am already booked on the bounceback but my parents have a separate ressie at the same resort. Can I call and add the Free Dining to my parents reservation with my Visa and pay any balance without being on their reservation? Or should I add one of my parents to my account as an authorized user?

I originally was going to add them to my existing reservation and add a second room but CRO wouldn't let me without canceling and losing the bounceback offer.

I love my crockpot and use it all winter at home here in the NorthEast but I will tell you one thing, that my crockpot is the LAST thing I want to see if I am on vacation anywhere at any time. ::yes:: Don't get me wrong, you might have a good idea there but sheesh enjoy yourself...you are on VACATION. Leave the crockpot home, wave goodbye to it and greet it nicely when you return!!!! :yay: JMHO!!!!!!

I'll take a stab at this, but someone with more knowledge needs to chime in. :) My opinion, for what it is worth, is based on past experience. . .

My parents and I once held MYW+dining packages through AAA. My package was held with my Disney VISA, and my parents' package was held with their MC. When a Disney VISA deal was announced, my AAA agent called to get the discount for both packages - no changes were made to the reservation details at all. Even though we weren't changing any of the details of our original reservations, the AAA agent had to rebook the packages and put down 2 new deposits with my Disney VISA. My parents were able to have everything in their name, just as they had originally booked, but my VISA was used for their deposit, which made them eligible for the "discount." Every dime that we had paid on the original reservations was refunded to our credit cards. Later, my parents simply used their own MC to pay the remaining balance due as planned, and I paid with my Disney VISA. (FYI: I could have paid the balance of my reservation with any CC as well. It didn't have to be the Disney VISA. Only the deposit had to be secured with the Disney VISA.) I hope this helps in some way. If this is not the way things work now, I'm certain that someone here will point out the flaws in my info in no time. ;):thumbsup2

Hi everyone! I have had the opportunity to do free dining twice and I am hoping that I will be able to do it again at the end of August. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the dates will work out for me :).

It's a "hot button" issue here on the DIS :). You can always re-heat stuff in the microwave in the food court. I always bring some "disposable" glad/ziplock containers with me for my morning cereal. They would work fine in the microwave.

I do feel I need to add something and I'll say it as gently as I can. If you have to cook in your room to be able to afford WDW then maybe you should consider saving up and waiting until next year or staying off-site where you would have a full kitchen. Depending on how many people in your "gang" are going, an off-site house might save you quite a bit of money. Of course, should the free dining come though that would make a big difference and you could stick with POP, even if it's not totally "free" anymore. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both of us.

You're going on vacation! Live a little. Eat out and not in your room.

Just a reminder to keep this on topic. No need to poke fun at someone that asked a question. Thank you. :)

I think everyone has misunderstood what I was asking. I am not COOKING; nor did I want too. Just heat things.
Now our vacation is paid for even if we do have to pay for the dining. I am just very cautious in how we spend our money, and was trying to figure out some time saving money saving things.
I am on vacation and do not want to cook anything. I hope this sets this all straight. and the subject is dropped. I did not know it was such a hot button to ask.
