Offical Check-In List 10/30/04 "Magic"

Tracy: I don't think I could drive all that way. It's not so much the drive down, it's the drive home. Maybe I should give you some wine and such to bring on board. We could enjoy a few when we get together.::yes:: LOL

Hey, How was your trip? I guess you are used to driving. How far was that? Tell us about it.

See Ya,
Michelle:wave: :earsgirl: :sunny:  :earsgirl: :sunny:

Michelle:

You're right the drive there isn't really that horrible because you leave around 3AM and you arrive around 6PM and it's still light out. I read all the magazines that I have piling up all year on the way down and the kids watch movies so it's not horrible. The way home is torture to me because I can only read 1/2 the way and the other half it's dark and I just sit listening to kid movies. Last year our car battery died when we got back to the port and my DS and I had spent the whole night up with him violently ill in the bathroom every couple minutes. He was still very sick when we pulled into port and headed for the car. An elderly couple took pity on us and gave us a jump but we didn't dare turn the car off until we got home 18 hours later even though we had to stop many times for my DS. I can't believe I'm doing it again but I still think it's easier than flying.

The drive to Vermont was 6 1/2 hours there and over 9 hours home because of horrible traffic. Where driving to Florida is just straight this was twisting through mountains and a much harder drive. I don't know where to begin about Smuggler's Notch. I hated every second of it, the kids had a better time because they enjoyed the camps for the most part. We were in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do and it was rainy and too cold to go to pools. You aren't near restaurants, or anything for that matter. It was one of those trips for us where we have a million stories but in the end it could have been worse. Needless to say I can't wait for the cruise!

Hi All:wave:
I just have a minute, getting Ashley ready for bed, me too. One more day to work than off for one.
Boy, what a day. It started out with car trouble :headache: smoke pouring out from under the hood. I had just dropped Ashley off at Kinder Care and was heading to the Post Office when it started. Thank goodness I only live 3 minutes away from both places Kinder Care to the north and the Post Office to the south my house in the middle. I took my smoking bomb home to settle itself down in my drive. I jumped into another truck and went to work, 3 minutes late. I had to use a goverment vehicle for my route delivier, :space: . Those little white trucks are nasty, dirty and they stink. Worst of all they have no A/C or tunes. It was a day from HECK.
But hey it got better, when I got back to the Post Office I got to play with baby chicks:Pinkbounc .
One of my customers ordered them, they came in on a late truck, the customer was coming into the Post Office to pick them up. They were so cute.
Also I got my car fixed, leaking hose, at a nearby garage, for FREE.:teeth:

You all have a great day tomorrow.:teeth:

Tracy, sorry to hear about Smuggler's Notch. I always get pamphlets on them and was even thinking of going one day. Do you think it was because of the weather?

How about the cruise, have you ever been on one and not had good weather? I know there are things to do onboard but what about the islands?

Sounds as if you DH drives all the way. Do you take turns driving?

Thanks for answering some of the questions on the email situation. I still don't understand. We get on the internet through comcast, but I still don't understand what you were telling me. I even printed it out to ask DH. What I want to do is be able to email friends and family at home while onboard.

By the way, I'll email you directly about next week and the pool. Are you around?

Ginger: What a day!!!::yes:: Did you say they fixed your car for free? What a great deal!! Alot of headaches during the day, but better in the end.

Aren't baby chick soooo cute.:Pinkbounc My driver sometime has her own radio with her. I always stop and talk with her, she says it breaks up the day.

Hope things are better tomorrow.
Michelle

Michelle:

The weather wasn't the reason we didn't like the place it was more being in the middle of nowhere, the lack of anything to do, the really horrible entertainment that they make sound so wonderful but in reality wasn't good and several bad employees. For the kids what they experienced in camp was new to them and they enjoyed that for the most part but that ended at 4:00 and from then on there was NOTHING to do. What restaurant that were offered on site were bad and if you wanted to go somewhere else it was a 45 minute drive. I think we are more a cruise type of family where everything is right there for you.

We did have a rainy sea day on the last cruise but that was the day the kids actually went into the pool. They had to cancel certain deck events and on other days they had the pools closed because the seas were so rough. There is always so much to do on the ship that it was more a problem not being able to do it all. They still have activities on the ship if it is raining while in port but we have been really lucky to have had beautiful days every time.

Yes my DH does all the driving by choice. I would love to do some of it because it makes the trip go by faster but he likes to do it.

Accessing your email is very easy. You go to www.comcast.net on the top of the page theres a button for email. Click that and it takes you to a log on page. You would put in your email address and the password you used when you set up your home account and it takes you to your inbox and you can send mail from there. Yahoo allows you to access not only your yahoo mail but other mail servers including comcast. You need to know the pop server information used when you set up the account, account name and password. I had no problem getting or sending email.

I am around next week. You're all welcome to come here if you like. The kids could swim (an our pool would get some use) and I could show you how the email thing works. Let me know what's good for you.

Tracy

Tracy, I can't remember how we set up the email account. What password we used. Now it just goes to the page and I get the email.

I'll email you with our phone #. Okay.

Hey everyone, we are doing the double digit dance!!:cheer2:

:rockband: :jumping4:

Scott

Hello!!

Great surprise today!!! Got some items I ordered from Disney!!!
Then I see we are in double digits!!! I'm jumping out of my skin with joy..

Michelle

Hi All:wave:
Double digits, great!!!! This vacation can't come fast enough for me, I need it bad.
I thought I was going to have off from work yesterday but it didn't happen. I was a little upset about that, I was looking forward to spending so time with my family. Getting ready to go in now, had a few extra minute, family is still in bed. It's going to be a great day here, it's raining. :fish: me today.

On a better note, I started my collection of "STUFF" to bring on the cruise. I bought a plung in night lite air freshener for our stateroom potty. Laundry soap tablets, can't make it through a cruise without doing a load or two. I've got more but running out of time here, so see you all tomorrow.

Bye!

Hi all,

It has been a long time since I have posted, but I’m still here. I swore off the DIS boards until we got under the 100 day mark, as I spent too much time on the boards two years ago before we went on the 2002 Halloween Magic cruise.

The first week in August we are going to the Pocono’s for a week and then when we get home I can truly start on cruise planning. I just read Ginger’s comment about starting to collect things for the cruise and I really need to start at least writing up a list. Part of the fun for me is the planning and the packing. I suspect my DH thinks I’m a little nuts, but he loves me anyway. ;) Also need to start researching airfare. We usually fly out of Newark, but I think we may try ABE this year if the price is right. Anyone ever use ABE?

Lynne

Lynne,
ABE is Allentown, Pa, right? We went out of there once, on Southeast, and would do it again with a direct flight, if the price was right. I would get on purchasing airfare ASAP, unless you have a lot of flexability in start and end dates. The airport is nice and small, easy to get to (we drove from Monmouth County) and parking is close and a little cheaper then most airports. Sanford, where southeast flys into isn't bad either. I think the rental car was slightly more expensive, but it was quick and easy for pick-up and drop-off. Good Luck.

Hi All:wave:
I've been collecting little syrup bottles from Cracker Barrel, again.
We use them to collect sandy from the beaches we visit. It make great souvenirs for the kids, plus they are easy to take to school for show and tell.

Good luck Lynne with the airfares.

Dena have you made your Radisson ressie yet???????

Who's staying at the Radisson before the cruise??????

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to let you know that we're staying at the Radisson the night before. We booked the cruise package after I read about it here on the DIS and I've reserved space on the 10:30am shuttle!

Double digits, how exciting!!!!

I'm off work for the summer now and I'm busier now than when I was working! Our email is almost fixed but at least I still have the internet so I can check in now and again! Trouble is, I don't seem to have as much time to do that now that I'm not at work!

goofymom67 sent me a private message but her user name does not allow me to answer via private message or e-mail, so . . .

You do not need a password to access the Halloween Magic 2004 website, as it is public access now. However, you will need to register yourself for the mini-forum if you would like to post there.

You said you will be on this cruise. If you take a look at the Cruiser List here and e-mail me the information you would like added, I will do so. Thanks!

I spent sometime looking into airfares today. Unless we are willing to go to Kennedy, which is not a great alternative, there were not any great deals. ABE (Allentown) did not offer any direct flights and I found cheaper direct flights out of Philly. Newark is still in the running because it is only about 35 minutes from our house.

Ginger – I am jealous that you live close enough to Cracker Barrel to start collecting the little Syrup bottles. Also like the idea of using the bottle to collect sand. We just bring it back in our bathing suits!

We plan on flying in Friday night and finding some place to stay near the airport that night and heading down to the port in the morning.

We still haven’t told the kids about the Cruise. I can’t believe that we have kept it a secret for this long. We think we will tell them sometime in September. I am still trying to come up with a creative way break the news to them. Anyone else keeping it a secret from the kids?

Lynne

Lynne,
If you want to be simple in announcing the trip a messege in a bottle might work. In the past we have surprised our kids a few times with trips. One trip to Disney HH, we just woke them up and left at about 5:30am. On a trip to WDW, we gave them a poster I drew of the castle covered with 61 numbered post-its on Easter. The top said "We're going to...." and the bottom said "days." as they took off days they saw the castle and figured out we were going to WDW. Maybe you could take them on a boat tour locally, maybe a dolphin tour in Cape May, they are reasonable, and by September the weekends won't be to busy. Then you can somehow work in asking them if they would like to go on a much longer/much larger boat. The Mes. in the bottle could work here to. Another idea would be a treasure hunt. Where the kids would find clues and each would direct them to the next one, with something special at the last one, letting them know. Maybe a couple of Disney Towels, new bathing suits, brochures ets. Or the clues could be physical to, each one a gift that will hint at the trip, with the kids having to figure out where you are going. Have fun!!
Donna
PS- I love jetblue, but hate getting to JFK, so that is one of my last options to.

How do you manage to get the sand past U.S. Customs? Are they solid bottles so they don't see it?

Haven't been around much, just lurking now and again because things have been crazy here. We're waiting on pins and needles to hear if dh will be called up and deployed before the trip. He got an extra duty call up for some sort of ship orientation thing. pirate: I'm taking it as sign he'll be activated. So we may or may not be on the cruise-- he wants us to go without him if he's gone, but the kids don't want to.

Ginger: I'm so glad my kids don't read this board! If they saw that bottle of sand idea I'd have collections of bottles of sand to go with the rocks, sticks, leaves, Spanish moss, raw cotton, etc. DD brough back a rock from Italy because she found it on the ground in the forum in Rome-- she thought it might be an "ancient Roman rock" but then was afraid she'd be arrested by customs for stealing antiquities. So she put it in dh's suitcase. :p
