Offical American Idol Discussion Thread

Thankfully, it was a better night tonight but I'm still not blown away by anybody.

It just wasn't George's night tonight. I liked him better when he bobbed up and down (and even that drove me crazy!)

I used to like Jasmine but she's not had a strong performance lately. I think she'll probably be in the bottom 3 again.

I hope they group off the contestants again in the 3 groups tomorrow night. It was interesting to see who is getting the votes.

Wendy, what a night to miss!!!!

Let's see....

George did "take a look at me now" from a costner film. Not a good song choice for him, but ok. I still love him. Outfit was great!

Jennifer did Whitney's "I am nothing". Simon cringed when he heard that, but said that she had two women backstage with dolls of her, sticking pins in it!

Diana did the song from Titanic. Personally, I think choosing that song shows her youth.... I thought she was off, and I'm pretty tone deaf. The judges said it was a hard song and she did just ok with it.

Jasmine sang "when I fall in love". Ok. She wore a cute top, jeans and had her hair down. I thought she could have worn a more vintage style and done something amazing with her hair for that.

JPL did Jailhouse Rock. I thought he sang ok, great song for him, but it's really painful to watch him dance. But my friend's 15 year old thinks he's HOT. Tarantino called him a geeky rocker.

Fantasia. Wow, what a night to miss. She sang Summertime, and just was way over the top. See if you can catch a re-cap. I've always liked her, but she really showed her softer side. She looked awesome, too. Perfect outfit for the song.

John Stevens... I thought he was off key, sang As Time Goes By. Perfect song for him, but he really needs more maturity.

LaToya sang Somewhere from West Side Story. Wonderful. Looked great, but were those CHAINS on her shirt??? I think she could have done more with the clothes to get into the song.

Hope this helps. I'm mailing my tape to my friend that missed it. Just a bad night to miss, there were much better performances this week than the last few.

Clutter:

Oh--Thank you Thank you Thank you--I feel complete. I am really bummed I missed LaToya sing West Side Story--that is one of my favs.

Thanks for the recap

LOL over the Geeky Rocker comment.

Gotta find a tape. Quentin's comments were really good. You'd love LaToya, but Fantasia.... wow. She doesn't need to win, she's set.

Go John Stevens and JPL! They both did great tonight! All the bashers can't really say anything bad about them tonight! :bounce:

I'm also not a very big fan of Fantasia but I thought she did very well tonight, along with Latoya and Jennifer. My mom even says she will not watch AI again next season if Fantasia wins because she can't stand her, but even she thought Fantasia did good tonight.

As for George, I'm so glad the judges finally heard what I'm hearing every time from him!! I'm so sick of him getting all these great comments when he sounds so bad every night.

Jasmine didn't do that great tonight and I was beginning to like her. In her group of 8 I didn't think she did too well, and I started liking her as the season went on. But she hasn't been doing well lately. And Diana was bad as usual. I haven't liked her from the beginning and she seems to be getting worse every week. Parts of that song were painful to listen to.

The bottom 3 tomorrow should definitely be George, Jasmine and Diana, with hopefully either Diana or George going home. I doubt George will be in the bottom though, since he seems to have so many fans. So it will probably be Jasmine, Diana, and a toss up for the 3rd spot.

Again, how can anyone say that JPL has a good voice???? It's SOOOO weak! He certainly is not better than George vocally.

Gosh, so many of us are on the same page regarding tonights performances. I have said before I am definitely not a Fantasia fan, but tonight she made me cry with her rendition of "Summertime" - it was really that good. LaToya shined as usual. And Jennifer was awesome despite her painful facial expressions. I love George, but he had a bad night:confused: Hopefully he will rebound next week. I have to admit the young ones should be in the bottom three tonight. Diana, Jasmine and John. They lack the maturity to compete with the others. Anyway, good week, really enjoyed it!:D

WOW!! What a comeback for all those kids on AI! Last week with Elton John songs was DISMAL... This week there really wasn't a bad performance. Everyone did fine.... jmho...

Fantasia blew me away tonight... she has not been one of my favorites... her voice is strong.. her personality has been grating.
La Toya- Great as usual.. I still think this woman should be this years AI
Jennifer- VERY STRONG PERFORMANCE tonight... she has grown in the last month of AI. The facial expressions are starting to dissapate... Thank goodness.
George- I love this boy... what a sweetheart with a beautiful voice.. I just don't care for the song he chose to do. So many others out there that would have shown his qualities.
Jasmine- My 16 yr old..wants me to send him to Hawaii! He thinks this is one island cutie! ( He was born in Honolulu so considers Jas a homegirl);) :p
Diana,JPL, ,John.... bottom three for me. I think John sang very well tonight.. but he is a "one tune" type of singer.

I was happy to see them all redeem themselves this week.

Please, please, please....John Stevens has to go! They might as well place a cardboard cutout of him up there. He has zero personality and is like a wet dishrag when he talks. I mean even Clay Aiken's personality improved as last year's competiton progressed! Although my 8 year old daughter just loves him!

Oh, I couldn't have said it BETTER! What is this guy doing in this competition???? He is a zombie up there and can only sing one type of song -- crooning. And Simon was right -- he's only happy if he gets to snap his fingers. I can't imagine a whole CD of him!!!

Sometimes I don't think I'm watching the same show as everyone else because I have totally different opinons of the singers ;) . I think John Stevens needs to go, he seems like a nice kid but he's so boring. I thought Fantasia was horrible. Maybe it's just because I hate the sound of her voice so no matter what she sings or how she sings it, I'm not going to like it. JPL also has to go soon. Latoya was fabulous. Diana was ok. George wasn't too good last night but I thought Jasmine sounded pretty good. As for Jennifer, I'm not a fan of hers, but she was ok, better than she has been but she's not not a favorite of mine. I can't bear to watch her sing, her expressions can be painful.

I agree, that John Stevens needs to go. He can only sing one type of song, and even when he does he sounds a little flat to me.

I still love George, I know this wasn't his best night, but I still like him. I personally love that song he sang, it was "Against All Odds" from the Jeff Bridges movie Against All Odds back in the 80's.

Diana is starting to lose it for me, and I was a big fan of hers from the start. I thought Jasmine did pretty well, but not good enough.

I thought Jennifer was fantastic tonight!!!! LaToya has a great voice, but I don't think she has any flair or personality when she sings. I don't care for Fantasia, but she does what she does well, and she has plenty of flair. I would not buy her CD, but that's just me.

I wonder if they sound better in person? After all neil sadaka gave John S. a standing ovation...he couldn't have sounded that bad if Neil liked him.

I also don't get the JPL thing. He definately is a geeky rocker.

To tell you the truth I don't think I'd buy a cd from any of the people they have as finalists this year.

For SOME reason, 15 year old girls LOVE JPL. I'm just glad I'm old right now, because if I was 15 and had to think JPL was HOT, I'd probably be lying just to fit in.;)

I agree with whoever said Fantasia doesn't have to win - she'll get a record deal for sure, even if she's voted off tonight. She is a true performer. Actually, she would be perfect for Broadway. She's good enough for live performances.

LaToya is very classy. She's reminding me more and more of Tamyra each week.

Poor George. I really like him. I think he picked the wrong song last night. Not everyone can sing every song. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he hangs in for another week to redeem himself.

As for outfits - I thought they were all pretty good this week. Fantasia, LaToya and Jennifer all looked very nice. John Stevens looked sharp as well.

And if Jasmine gets booted off the show, I think she should get an acting job. She's just so darned cute and sweet.

Fantasia was great last night and this is coming from someone who thought she was too full of her self. I was just floored to see her in tears, she was really feeling her song and her song choice was awesome. I love Porgy and Bess! Latoya did a wonderful job with Somewhere.

Also I think Jasmine is a sweetie, she reminds me so much of Michelle Kwan (Figure Skater).

I have to agree with whoever said that they were a big fan of Diana, but it is fading. That's the way I feel too.

To me, the top four are definitely George, Jennifer, Fantasia and LaToya. Whichever way they fall in line once to that point doesn't matter to me, except I don't think George deserves to be the American Idol over such strong female singers. I love him, but I just don't think he has the range they do, so I think one of them deserves it.

I agree with every single part of mamajoan's post, so I won't bother to retype it. ;) :)

As for George, I'm so glad the judges finally heard what I'm hearing every time from him!! I'm so sick of him getting all these great comments when he sounds so bad every night.

THANK YOU ShuisFan584!::yes:: My thoughts exactly.
I thought George was painful to listen to tonight.

I don't have anything "against" JPL or John and think that they both did better tonight. I just don't think they are American Idol caliber.

Fantasia (who annoys me but is talented) and Latoya were both amazing tonight. I was glad to see a little humility and emotion from Fantasia. I think that, judging straight vocal quality and poise, Latoya would win hands down.

Does anyone here think that maybe someone told Fantasia she needed to tone down the "attitude" and show a little bit of sensitivity? Because if they did, she listened, and it worked wonders for her.
