I survived curriculum night! (aka parent-teacher night aka open house depending on where you are from)

This is really the only night all year that I get really, really nervous for. It's hard to be confident when you're voice is shaky, but I did it!

Three down...how many more to go until retirement? ;)

Thank you (and peoplemover!)

It was a good trip, punctuated by moments of cluelessness. Like, waiting at the airport at the sign for the "trolley" to bring me to baggage claim (apparently, a trolley is a word for a luggage cart, and it wasn't going to bring me anywhere).

:rotfl: :rotfl: The many adventures of traveling overseas! Never a dull moment is there ;)

And what is a shilling anyway?

When I changed my currency at the beginning, I admitted to having no idea the difference between pounds, pence, and shillings. They told me 100 pence in a pound, which is easy enough to remember.

Then I asked what a shilling was. The woman just looked at me, "There are no shillings." Are they some ancient piece of currency from the 1500's or something? Did I do something similar to asking about how many doubloons and pieces of eight there are in a dollar?

Why does this Tropical Storm/Hurrican Ophelia feel like raining on my parade?! We finally make a move for a job that is better for DH, DS loves his new school and I get the chance to take a little while off before looking for a job, and Ophelia has us in her sights. What did I ever do to her? :confused3 I guess that is what I get for moving to an island

I hope that this will help explain to you what a shilling is:

When I go overseas I try to use my Visa for everything so I do not get confused -- I do have some conversion but not that much, as I do not travel that much with $$ --- I hope that this link can explain for ya! :)

thanks! but... i thought i was confused before... that link gave me a headache.

i guess that's because i can't even generally remember how many cups in a pint in a quart in a gallon. Did i ever mention the time when i doubled the amount of butter that went into a batch of cookies? I've never seen an oil slick ooze out of a cookie before.

(I still ate them. Greasy but good!)

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: just take the Visa/AMEX much easier :)

I'm absolutely joyous right now. Tonight I had my seating audtion for the Youth Symphony I play in. And I just had probably the best audition I have ever had in my entire life. The director usually terrifies me when I play...but today everything went PERFECTLY! I hit every note, every accent, every slur, every crescendo...John McCaw would be proud.

To top it all off...everyone else in the clarinet section played the same thing for the audition: the first movement of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. And what did I do...I set myself apart I played the Raga Music by John Mayer, a piece for clarinet written in an authentically Indian style.

Oh my gosh...I'm so happy! :) There aren't words with which I can describe my feelings!!!!!!

It's been a while since I inflicted a random post about my kids on this thread.

For the past 3 nights, my 3yo daughter has insisted at bedtime on dressing up in a Disney princess outfit and jumping up and down like a crazed maniac to Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" (which, because her nickname is Jia-Jia, she is convinced is Jia-Jia Be Good").

As I type this, Cinderella Jia-Jia Be Good is jumping around with a pink feather boa. Oh, and she has added the red bow Snow White headband. (Well, at least it's not a pink trucker hat.)

Kids are so strange.

:confused3

The question is, does Cinderella Jia-Jia Be Good actually go to sleep after this parade of er, style??? I'd be all for whatever bedtime ritual a child has....as long as it really means bedtime  She hasn't yet gotten you all boa-ed up has she?!

If a Guest675686 follows me into a room, please don't boot him. I made an account for my youngest son tonight. He knows how to follow me, so he probably will be coming into rooms with me. Hopefully soon his screen name of TheCodyMan will be approved soon.

Also, he won't be trading. He's too young for that. I put it in his signature, but we all know how useful that is. His signature also says Dis Kid, so you can know who he is.

I'll see you all at the end of the week...off to Disneyland! Hopefully, I'll be sporting some gold mouse ears next time you see me! Take notes on the activities this week, I don't want to miss anything!

Canadian,

Happy Birthday to your baby (a little late)!!

Back to our regular scheduled thread.

(I am answering you here, rather than hijack the other thread)

Thanks from Jay! We visited his Oma and Opa (grandparents) on Saturday and had a party on Sunday. I missed most of VMK on the weekend, but managed to grab one of all the costumes and pins. I was going to get more hats on Monday, as I thought they would last through the event, but it wasn't meant to be. :confused3

Here is a picture of Jay enjoying his first birthday cake! (he doesn't look too sure about it :) )

How cute!!! I see he likes his birthday cake...
