I will be flying through Milwaukee and need to spend one night in a decent hotel that is not all that expensive. Can anyone suggest what part of town to look at to find something that would have a reasonable hotel? I may want to catch a game too, is there any neighborhood near or not too far (I will have a rental car) from the stadium that might be good to look at?

The airport is not that far from the ball park. Just be aware that the highways are under construction, and some times it can be tricky to figure out where you need to go. I live in Chicago and have driven to the airport twice in the last 2 months and the route was different each time due to closures. Thank God for GPS! So really if you stay near the airport or even downtown, you will not be far from the ball park. Not familiar with the hotels so I can't give you any recommendations. Milwaukee is such a friendly city, you will like it.

Agree with Gram. The airport is south of downtown, and the dicier part of Milwaukee is north of downtown. You should be fine. Have fun. :cool1:

Lots of hotels near the airport. Not sure of any by Miller Park. Maybe a 15 minute drive, plus a few extra minutes for parking...

Thanks ALL. I will stick near the airport.

I just noticed the Brewers will play the Cubs. If CHI is that close, I guess a lot of people will drive to the game. Maybe I should buy tix in advance !

Might not hurt to buy them early, but Cub fans tend not to come up as often when they have a losing team. You may pay more if you buy directly from the brewers as it is a "premium" game where they charge more for certain teams. Would not hurt to look at stub hub for a cheaper ticket. Be sure to get your brat with Stadium Sauce!!!

Personally, I would not stay at a hotel near the airport. Things around there are kinda blah and run-downish. Highly suggest staying downtown or better yet in Brookfield. Brookfield is an easy drive from the airport and full of restaurants and shopping. Check out Brookfield Suites brookfieldsuiteshotel.com
They offer airport shuttles and I believe they also offer shuttles/buses to Miller Park home games. Check it out. if you stay there you can skip the rental car altogether. You honestly don't want to attempt driving and parking at the stadium esp being an out-of-towner, road construction season, AND on a Brewers/Cubs game day. Those parking lots will be so full of tailgaiters from the early a.m. There are also lots of bars---some downtown and some near the stadium that-- offer free shuttle buses.

ETA: Would also highly suggest getting tickets ahead of time because of the rivalry.

We're flying out of Milwaukee early tomorrow and morning & staying overnight this evening at the Hilton Garden Inn near the airport. On Trip Advisor, it's the #3 rated hotel in Milwaukee. We got a good park & fly rate, we'll be there for 10 nights. The Crowne Plaza also had a good Trip Advisor rating, but it's park & fly rate only included 7 nights. I'll post later and let you know how we like the hotel.

Wonderful hotel. Clean and sparkling new; friendly staff; fabulous adjustable beds. A stone's throw from the airport. We took the 6AM shuttle; checked in with Airtran; went thru security and were at our gate by 6:25AM (we were flying business class so got to use the expedited security line.) What a great stress-free start to the travel day.

We found the Country Inn ( Owned by Raddison) near the airport to have a good rate. I did not check trip advisor yet but they are usually a good chain

I live 5 minutes from O'Hare but always fly out of MKE. I drive up the night before, out the next morning, early AM flight. I always stay at the Milwaukee Wyndham, excellent hotel, across from airport, 5 minutes. I have stayed there probably 35-40 times past 12 years, always a good experience.
