I didn't know where else to turn but all the wonderful people on the DisBoards!

I broke my foot this weekend getting out of our travel trailer and now I have a cast. (Good thing our DL trip is 4 month away)

Sometimes I feel like if I don't get my leg out of this cast I will go crazy! It has only been 3 days with the cast. Does this feeling go away? I was thinking about getting out the Dremel and cutting it off last night. (I would not try that, but I did think about it!)

Anyone have similar experience?

Thanks for any advice!

If you are seriously claustrophobic get some Ativan for those bad times! Other things that might help....a blow dryer into the cast, profanity, hard liquor, sorry nothing is coming to mind!

I have a travel trailer also and am always afraid I am going to fall coming out (or going in which would be worse) Just keep telling yourself it will be off before Dl and drink lots (adult type stuff.......)

I broke my ankle last year. It was so so hard but it will get easier. After they took off the cast, I got put in a e boot. I broke my ankle the first week of May and went to Knotts and MM the first week of Aug. Survived no problem..

Can you get an air cast?? The kind you can sort of still walk with? My friend just broke her foot and she has one. You can take it off for a bit if you need to. I think they are over 100.00 but if you can't take a plaster cast, it might be worth looking into.

So sorry! I broke my leg right above the ankle about 15 years ago. It was horrible. I was in a cast for about 13-14 weeks. Then a brace for about 6 weeks after that. Had surgery twice (once to put a plate in and once to take it out). It was a long miserable recovery. It does get easier. You'll figure out how to get around, carry things, shower, etc.

Thanks for all the advice!

Last night actually was a lot better:goodvibes I even slept the entire night.

It is so wierd that I was getting little anxiety attacks. I have never had one before =)

He is actually taking it off a week early and put me in a boot since he is going on vacation and then I am going on vacation to MN.

I think I am going to make it!!!

Thanks everyone!

I have had my cast on for 3 weeks now i only have one more week to go.
The 1st 3 days were the hardest trying to get around on cruchtes(sp)my back and arms felt like i had been working out for hours. And i was trying to think of anything to get it off i could not stand having it on now i only feel that way a couples times a days not all day lol.
I have to keep my leg up all the time or it swells so big it feels like it is going to bust out of the cast.Thank god only 7 more days i get it off on july 25th i cant wait to walk by myself agian.

I actually get the cast off tomorrow and I could not be happier! The anxiety did go away about the 5th day.

It was actually supposed to be on for 3 weeks, but since we are flying to MN next Friday and the doc is on vacation all next week, he is taking off early.

I still will not be able to walk on it, but I will just be happy to get it off!

I was in a cast for nine months. . . did DL at new years eve on crutches even. . .

for the itchies, blow dryer on cool air, really does help! of course everytime i had my cast changed I convinced them to wash my leg before putting a new on one, knowing it would help the dead skin. . . worked every time. ..

I never had the huge problem of feeling like it was driving me nuts, but then I went from a full leg cast to a short leg and was relieved.

good luck!

I don't have a leg cast but my right wrist is in one right now, I am right handed.

Yep, it's hard, typing with one hand and learning to write with the left hand. Will be in one for 4 months once this one is removed and i have the surgery to replace the bone and tendon.

I appreciate the tips I'm seeing; the blowdryer tip! I have been using my DD's nebulizer and putting the air hose down the cast but it has scraped the skin which now itches and burns.

The cast is fiberglass and it's hot, at times it feels like the heater is on, or I am having a hot flash on just my wrist. I have thought about cutting it off as well, but the longer it stays on the longer I can wait for surgery. Since my DD just turned 2, I'd rather postpone for a few months until she's out of diapers and a bit more self sufficient.
