Off Topic, but since so many DVC Members love December .....

I saw it for the first time in 2013. I said then that I wanted to see it one more time before it was gone for good. We booked 2 nights this December just for this :)

I'm glad I had a chance to see the lights this January. It was an amazing show and I enjoyed them more than I expected. Sorry to see them go.

If you are feeling that the "magic will be gone" when Disney shuts down Osbourne at the end of this season, you might be in for a shock. There are MANY smaller light show efforts around the country, some of which pre-date Disney's take over of Osbourne, and run with the same hardware Disney uses. Some of these, in fact, are better choreographed and display more styles of lighting (but fewer overall lights) than Disney. google: youtube lightorama to see some examples. You can also go to Christmas Light Finder to search for displays near you, if you want to experience them in person.

Very true. There is a difference though that maintains the disappointment in that the Osborne lights are a popular addition at WDW where many of us planned holiday vacations. It's not necessarily seeking out light displays per se in places we have no other reason to go to.

Even Walt himself said that Disneyland would never be finished. With few exceptions, I'm a strong advocate of keeping the Disney parks fresh and new. Unfortunately that means losing some old favorites in the process.

When Epcot's Lights of Winter were retired, it paved the way for the impressive "icicle" lighting on Cinderella Castle.

Retiring the Osborne Lights is undoubtedly linked to the refresh of Hollywood Studios. Disney releases how important the holiday season is to its guests. I'll be shocked if this retirement doesn't lead to a new elaborate display or holiday feature elsewhere on WDW property.

Of course, you are right (and so are those who say there are other displays out there), BUT I WILL STILL MISS THE OBORNE LIGHTS AT DHS, even while I go nuts over Star Wars and Toy Story. :teeth:

And FWIW, I'd gladly forego the icicle lights on the Castle if they'd find a way to bring back the Lights of Winter at EPCOT. :teeth: Loved that!

Thanks for posting this! i will miss them, but will get to see them again this last year. I remember when the lights were on the houses along the back stage ride.

I love the icicle lights on Cinderella's Castle, and look forward to Disney adding something else that's spectacular.

PS. For us, the Christmas holidays are never complete without a trip to Dollywood! We have quite a few family traditions. I am sure you all do too!

I am going to miss racing my DH each year to see which of us finds the Halloween cat first! I can't believe this is the last year we will get to do this.
