Off Topic, but since so many DVC Members love December .....

Oh, no. So sorry to read this. We are considering whether we will be able to keep our December reservation. This news is one more reason to hope we can go.

I understand why, but very sad to see it go. We have seen the Osborne lights at least once each season for the last 10 years.

My wife and I changed our ordinary habit of going in February/March (Epcot Flowers) to November this year in order to see the lights one last time. The demise of the lights was rumored/announced in January or February.

I am sad that they are leaving too. The lights really could get me into the Christmas spirit. I wonder how crowded it will be this year?

But at the same time I never understood why Disney left just a large piece of property empty most of the year in a park. I realize they have events or parties some nights, but most of the time the Streets of America is just not used for anything except a walkway.

I am so glad that I will be there over the holidays so I get to enjoy 1 last time. Such a shame its coming to an end.

I've never seen it. We will be there in December, but I doubt we'll be able to squeeze it in. I've heard that it was quite the spectacle though.

THis is how I felt when Disney took away Lights of Winter at Epcot several years ago...I've never been a huge fan of the Osborne lights, but so well remember how sad it was (and still is) to not get to see that wonderful archway of lights on the "stem" leading from Future World to World Showcase...so I totally sympathize w/those feeling the sadness to see Osborne lights go...For us, the loss of the Lights of Winter really changed how we feel about going to Disney over the holidays...there is still (of course) much to love, but knowing I won't see "my" Lights of Winter makes it very easy to just skip a late November/December trip--and since DVC is so hard to get during that time frame, we just don't go in that time frame any more...I suppose one of these years I'll miss the Candlelight Processional so much (it's my other "WDW highlight of the holidays") I'll actually plan to go back again over the holidays--but for now, the enduring sadness over no more Lights of Winter "depresses" the urge to plan a trip in December...hope that doesn't happen for all of you who feel that way about the Osborne lights...

For us this will Dec trip will be something new - PVB
and
something old - OFDL.
DW and I have been every year since '93 the second week of Dec.

Just booked a week in December to see them one more time. We are down in October and January but dh can get the time off and we homeschool, so off we will go. No dvc stay though. First time staying in a lion king suite at art of animation. Looking forward to it.

I hate it as badly as anyone but I'm going to offer this tidbit of advice. Let's wait until all the dust settles in a couple of years and see what happens. ;)

In terms of the Osborne lights... According to a family member posting on the Theme Parks board, this is the end of their lights at Disney

In terms of a really well done Star Wars land ... That will be exciting as long as Disney continues on its initial plans of going "all out."

I'm glad we are doing a big family trip this December. My kids have grown up with those lights. Very sad.

Knowing that this was coming was still hard to hear. Personally I wish they would have announced this months ago and I would have planned a trip to see it one last time. Because this is gone and no replacement has been named I don't feel a rush to return to Disney for the holidays anytime soon. Osborne was a huge draw for me. I would see it twice on each trip.
