Anyone every have an awning blow off? If so did you turn in an ins. claim? If you did that what did it fall under? Comprehensive or personal effects?

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Dan ours blew off on I 80 on the way home about 4 yrs ago, we just called the the ins company and they asked us to get an estimate, and then wrote us a check.... It was easy!

John , if it were me , I would have rolled my awning up before I hit the road. :lmao:

Yeah Dan, It was $250, but we got the quote from the local RV dealer, and when we got the check, we got the new awning from campingworld, and it was about $700 LESS, so we MADE about $450 in the deal... LOL, only time in my life, I was the one bent over!

The other thing of note is that all companies do not provide the same coverage and coverage can change> If you're not paying attention it can be a surprise. I have my trailer insured through State Farm right now, which is who I've used for my cars for the last 20 years, my house for last 16 and whatever else I need insured. Anyway, when I first took out the policy on the trailer everything was covered. I never really paid that close attention to a lot of stuff that the company sent me other than my rates. I was at the Fort in June 2007 when a torrential rain collapsed my awning. I call my agent and discover that sometime previously that State Farm had removed "accessory" items from the RV coverage and required a separate rider. Luckily, since I had been a customer for so long, with the same agent, she was able to get the awning covered. I now have the accessory rider on the trailer.

off-topic? Not here :lmao:

It should be considered a part of the trailer and not personal property. If it was installed from the factory or dealer and sold as such it should be original equipment and not an addon or optional equipment that you pruchased. But, each company has it's own mind (or lack of) so this a generalization. I would get an estimate from a local dealer and go from there. You will have a deductible under your comprehensive coverage.
