Off Topic: Anne Rice.....

I was way into goth and vampires and witches in high school, and I loved Anne Rice. I never read anything outside of her supernatural stuff though.

I think her reply was great. As a public figure if she is invited to speak at a forum she should totally take that opportunity, especially if her words are not being distorted. In today's era of 10 second soundbites for someone to actually give you a lengthy interview to express yourself is rare, and I think it's awesome she's still speaking up for the things she believes in. She' out there showing another face of Christianity.

I read lots of things because they're great, and not because I agree with the author always. I have managed to stay away from the twilight series because it bothers me that any money I contribute to that author would end up in the coffers of the Mormon Church, but I love to read Ayn Rand because her books are amazing. I couldn't bring myself to subscribe to her political views but her characters are compelling.

I think there's value in people like Anne Rice creating a bridge and being able to find some common ground with people whose views she doesn't entirely embrace. We can all find common ground with almost anybody, and ultimately that is the best way to change hearts and minds.

Holy cow, Mr. Z. I nearly croaked at learning of her conversion to writing for the L-rd! I had no idea.

So, clearly I'm not a huge fan. I read one of her vampire books...

Ummm...read the Roquelaure though. :littleangel: Pretty interesting stuff. LOL.

Must admit, I do agree with her, "so be it." ::yes:: I am mostly impressed that she has taken the time to respond to you.

I hope it makes you feel better about things? I really think it should.

Thank you for sharing this with us. Quite a subject to ponder.

I'm really impressed she took the time to write you back.

Going on the tv show of such an extreme bigot, crosses a line for me. I was pretty surprised that she thought she'd be heard, and not distorted on that particular TV show. If Mr. Robertson managed to take something like feminism and decide it was the same as killing babies I would feel sure he'd run rampant and crazy over any guest. Something about what do you expect if you do a deal with the devil.

I remember reading this about the same feature reporter Scott Ross from the 700 Club http://homepage.mac.com/fingerprintinc8/blogwavestudio/LH20061122141042/LHA20061130144859/index.html

I don't give the credit she did to the 700 Club in having her on. I tend to think they had her on not out of respect but, because they are strapped for legitimate guests. I think some of her opposing view didn't come up because the 700 Club couldn't handle them. Not as a courtesy, and certainly not because they didn't condemn her for them (Geez that all sounds awfully cynical). It didn't seem like they talked about the new books much. It was nice to hear her thought process on the subject, and I hope it gave you some comfort in the situation.

I'm friends with people who oppose abortion, but not those that bomb health clinics. I guess I think of Mr Robertson and the CBN more as bombers.

If someone has that many bookshelves in their home they must be good people

I couldn't even listen to that without wanting to smack the smug right off his face. disgusting hateful stuff.

I'm still reading her response over and over. I'm glad she responded and for the most part I'm very happy with the response. I'm not sure if I 100% agree with the fact that just because you go onto someones show that you're not endorsing them, but I'm still mulling that over.

I'm stubborn and bullheaded and sometimes I have to sit back and think about things for a while. I'm trying to see this from her point of view as an artist trying to reach readers with her message. Despite her going on the show, I appreciate her political views, religious views and her dedication to Gay rights.
I have a hard time with that, but people on tv do it all the time. but.......these hatefilled people like robertson and falwell, they just cross a line, and I could have no respect for someone's views like that, I couldn't go on the show, because I would not want to be aligned with them in any way shape or form.

good point, but I wonder if the audience of that show really knows her TRUE views, did they talk about them on the show??

Didn't he make some dumb *** comment about 9/11 too?

And didn't Ann Rice also write Porn under another name.

Strange bed fellows or what.

I always giggle when I read "Exit to Eden". Unlike the movie, it's not a comedy. There's not plot in the book, it's just all about sex :rotfl:

Okay -- serious thread and all... please forgive my Beavis and Butthead moment here but I was TRANSFIXED when I saw in an earlier post that "exposed breasts" did not trigger the DIS thought police asterisks of death...

I swear if I don't get this out, I'll BURST.

Pat Robertson and Dr. Dobson are constantly exposing themselves as a pair of dumb "breasts". heh heh heh

Thank you. I feel better now.

LOL glad you could get all of that out. Plus, I needed some levity in this thread. :)

Mark I feel for you. To be such a huge fan and then be so dissapointed and let down, it just plain stinks. I DO however, agree w/ Rob & Luis. Great responses. :thumbsup2

As she said, the choice is up to you. I wish you well on this friend.

Chris
