As my ds was enjoying some splish splashing in the fountains, we heard the whistle of the train. Lill Diz hurried, got his shoes on and we walked over to the boarding area of the train, just as she came to a complete stop and let her gasp of steam off. The conductor came over and to unlatch the gate and we had the pick of just about any seats we wanted.
We chose one of the front cars because of its completely emptiness. I wanted to try to take some pictures of the train, as we rode. The cool breeze as we took off felt amazing! Why I return to WDW in the heat and humidity of OCT. is truly beyond me. I could only imagine the feeling of summer sauna season. YUCK!
We knew we were definitely way ahead of the game when we arrived at the Mainstreet Train station and looked to our left to see a sea of people entering the park. Poo poo on them, we were done with a huge chunk of the park and were on our way to a little splish splash with a rabbit from the past. Far, far past
so far past that my ds had no idea who the characters even were.
Big Thunder Mountain was closed for refurbishment, so the only option was Splash Mountain. The line for Splash was not even existent. We literally walked right up and jumped on. Lill Diz had never been on splash due to the last 2 visits to the park ironically were at time of rehabs. It had been years since I too had been on it. But my memories of strolling down the river had never faded. I had heard some people prefer to wear rain ponchos to prevent becoming drenched. I on the hand decided to wing it and skip the ponchos. After all how bad could it really be?
It could be really bad.
Dumb me.
It was real bad.
In fact, so bad that it seems that my memories of riding it in the past were not on par.
I missed the hole by a long shot.
Not only did we get a little wet...
We got drenched.
Top of the head to the tips of our toes were wet
Dripping, sopping, grossly wet.
Although it was hot out, I really wasnt too excited to be dripping wet. I had spent a great part of the earliest of the AM attempting the perfect October-Steamy, Disneydo. My naturally curly hair had been product, blown and straighten to humidity perfection. Despite the hairdo issues, the force of the wave that hit us made my V-Neck t-shirt weigh down so much from the water, that it was showing areas not to be shown.
From behind it appeared that we both had had some accidents and wet our selves, from the excitement of going down the plunge.
We headed straight for the bathrooms to collect ourselves and attempt to dry off with the hand blowers. When we entered I realized we were in the company of just about every other female who had just ridden Splash Mountain.
From memory, I do not recall getting drenched like that. Granted it had been years since I had ridden. I would think the memory of dripping wet, soppy clothes would stick. What I do know now is that I will not make that mistake again. From that point on I pledged to myself that I would wear a poncho on that ride. It was a done deal. (remember this) I hate being dripping wet. Even in the heat of Florida, where the sun dries you in minutes.
Drip drying along, we still had a few minutes until I wanted to stop for lunch. Making it there before the rush of the regular lunch crowd is a must, so we only had time for one more ride. We headed to Pirates to have a visit with dear ole Jack. This too was closed for a refurb on our last visit. The line was crazy long, coming out of the building. I had a feeling that there was something blocking the entrance, since it wasnt normal for this ride to have a line like that. Sure enough about a minute later I could see that people were loading into one side only. For what ever reason, the CM didnt direct people that both lines were open. As we approached the line separators we headed to the right, were no one else was heading. Sure enough, a few people followed us. Yet again we walked right onto the ride, loaded and were off to see the awesome Jack. The ride improvements were awesome. We both LOVED the special effects added to the beginning of the ride.
Peco Bills was calling our name for lunch. The line at just a bit after 11 was already mounting. We placed our order, sharing a double cheese burger meal, plus an added cup of cheese sauce since they no longer offer the pump full of cheese sauce in their fixings bar. Added note
I love the fixings bar! I am able to pump my portion of the burger with everything I enjoy, at the same time my ds was able to enjoy his scaled down version. Yummo!
We found a seat outside in their little court yard area. I had never thought of seating there before, but it was a nice quaint spot. Soon after sitting down, Woodys show came out to perform and we had some of the best seats. Sitting, eating our lunch, we watched the show. It was like a 2 for one. It was great!
After our tummies were full, we headed to Tomorrow land for a ride with Buzz and Space Mountain. While we fast passed Space Mountain, we were able to ride Buzz with a minimal wait of 20 minutes. It was noonish and the Buzz wait was seriously only 20 minutes!
Luck was on our side. We were in Tomorrow land buzzing (no pun intended) from ride to ride. We were able to watch The Laugh Factory
All I can say is
What a HOOT. I had heard mixed reviews, but we both really enjoyed it and fell in love with the show!
Then we used our SM fast passes
which for some reason my ds was a bit apprehensive to ride this time. He had ridden it twice during the last visit, but wasnt too excited about being in the dark, this time. After some discussion he did agree to ride with me, since he knew how much I loved the ride. When we entered the area where you give the FP to the CM, the CM noticed my dss b-day pin and told him to pick one of the pins from his lanyard as a b-day gift. Lill Diz was really excited, because the CM had a Space mountain pin with a hidden Mickey. He thanked the CM over and over, while the CM helped him put it on his lanyard. It was a really sweet gesture of the CM. I know that they are given pins and a lanyard to trade, but some CMs are better about it than others. This one was one of the better.
The ride was as fun as ever. I had heard that only a few minutes before the lights were on inside. It was a bummer that we missed it. I have seen pictures on the internet, however would love to see it in real life. I think it also would make Lill Diz be a bit more at ease about riding it, if he was able to see how big and fast it really goes (which in the scheme of roller coasters is not too bad). After all was said and done, I asked him if he wanted to ride it again and he told me maybe later, not right then
When we were done we headed to the bathrooms in Tomorrow Land, passing the speedway on the way. Come to find out that the ride that we ALWAYS stay away from due to its putzy loading process
the Speedway only had a 15 minute wait. Get out! We were in that line in a lickity split!
Talk about boring. BORING ride
But my ds loved it.
So I loved it too.
Seriously, the day was going so great! We were on and off rides with barely a wait. I was trying not to get my hopes up that this was how our whole trip would be. At the same time I was super excited that my meshed together touring plan was really working. Who would know that me, an average yearly visitor could make such a touring plan of the rides we liked, that worked so beautifully for us. Was it a fluke? Would it be this smooth the next time we visited MK? We had done so much, in just one day. Yes it was a slower time of the year
but at the same time, it was a fall holiday weekend. The park was packed
just not where we were
for what ever reason.
Our speedway ride was hot
and slow. However there was a rainbow at the end of the ride. On our exit from the speedway I noticed a familiar person. A woman in a baby blue shirt was waiting at the exit of the stairway, as we came across the bridge, over the track.
