Hello,

I'm looking for some suggestions for italian and steak house restaurants. Nothing too fancy, we don't want to have to get dressed-up for dinner. We don't mind chains, but we do prefer to try something we don't have back home (South NJ). We will have a rental car so we don't mind having to drive.

Thanks.

Head up Interstate-4 to Sand Lake Road (west of the interstate). That's the area I dubbed Restaurant Row several years ago. There you'll find: Timpano (Italian); Antonio's (also Italian); Ruth's Chris Steak House; Morton's Steakhouse; Moonfish; Samba Room (Latin American); Roy's (Hawaiian); Seasons 52 (creative American); Bravo (brand new Italian); J. Alexander's (American with good prime rib); Ocean Prime (upscale seafood and steaks). There are even more place farther north in the real Orlando. You can find other suggestions on my site, or send me a note if you have questions.

wow what a response....I think I've been outdone!

I was going to say on I-Drive I have enjoyed Vito's Chop House right in front of the Doubletree Castle (Near Universal). Not inexpensive, but the steak was very good. The chocolate cake is huge too. (or it was few years ago)

Another place we tried for Italian is: La Forchetta in Kissimmee on John Young Parkway just past the intersection of 192. It looks like a dive from the outside, but the place is/was family owned, and the food was very good. It was a nice break fromteh chains. I last ate there the end of 2006. Since then we've done DDP in Orlando. not on our next trip. I'm going to try and go there again. It was really quite good and the people there were really nice. Nothing too fancy though. It wasn't especially inexpensive, but it was our best meal that trip!

This thread is a bit dated, but a while back, Sweet Tomatoes was raved about. A number of chains are mentioned, but there are quite few places listed. Just make sure they are still around:
