Off menu veg options at BOG?

I keep hoping for someone to reply to this question (it has appeared in other threads...). I am curious if anyone has had a vegetarian dinner at BOG...featuring something OFF MENU. I know the routine of simply asking...but would like to know if anyone had experienced this in some way?

We have ADRs for dinner this May...and are trying to decide whether to keep 'em or release them.

I'm fine with the ratatouille...my husband, not so much. I'm not sure a lunch visit fits in our plans...

Anyone???
Thanks!!!

I'm a vegetarian and I was very impressed with the ratatouille! I was nervous at first about the lack of a better option, but it was very tasty!

I didn't realize there was an off menu option, but I'm sure they would be happy to accommodate you. :)

First off, thank you for your reply....days go by with no comments and I found myself regretting ever posting my inquiry!

Glad to hear the ratatouille was yummy! I don't doubt I'd enjoy it....my husband calls himself a 'bad vegetarian' cause he isn't adventurous when it comes to vegetables. So the zucchini/eggplant thing was my concern with him... But, I'm hearing the soups are veg based, so that has potential too...

Guess I'll just need to decide on keeping the dinner ADR after all...or simply waiting out the line for lunch. We'll have to do at least one or the other....

Appreciate the response....

I wish I knew the answer to this question, because we would appreciate hearing about a second veggie option. I agree that the ratatouille looks awfully good...I'm sure they can do something else. Of the other dinner options, are there any where it seems like they could omit the meat? The other thing you could do is call the restaurant directly. Last year, we were thinking of eating at Le Cellier, but wanted to ask about omitting the bacon from their famous soup. We called and they were able to tell us that the soup has an animal-broth base anyway, so we decided against eating there. Good luck to you! :cheer2:

I can't help you with the off menu option, but I wanted to post that I had the Ratatouille last week and it was very, very good. I'll be posting a picture in the next update of my dining reviews. I'm not a vegetarian but sometimes DH and I will split a steak entree and a veggie entree to keep our red meat consumption down, so that's what we did there. I ended up eating more of the Ratatouille than the steak because it was that good!

I went to BOG in December and was told that they have a very small kitchen and unfortunately did not have off menu options for vegetarians. I can also relay that both soups are indeed vegetarian! I was also a fan of the ratatouille. I am not much of a fan of some of the veggies used in the dish but after its been roasted and butter is involved, it's allll good. :)

I wish you could just order sides. I'm not a vegetarian but I really don't care for meat and usually order meals for the sides. I would love to get mashed potatoes and string beans but from what I understand you need to get the whole meal which to me is a sad waste of uneaten meat. I don't believe we were able to just order a side of fries either for a child who wouldn't like any of the meal choices there. I love the restaurant and while I completely understand their restrictions and would never expect them to change for my dietary issues, I wish it were a bit more flexible.

It was my understanding you can order just sides if paying OOP. If using a DP you can not substitute sides for an entree

Do you know if this option is only at dinner or at lunch time also? That would be great!! I usually try to get to Cosmic Rays where they let you get a side of mashed potatoes, the side vegetable and sometimes chicken noodle soup. Sound strange but it's not too heavy a meal and I am really craving vegetables or something not too heavy when walking in the heat so long.

It must be so difficult being a vegetarian in WDW. There doesn't seem to be muc variety.

Honestly, it's easier being a vegetarian at WDW then in the real world. Check out Applebee's or McDonalds menu, just as example. At least when I am at The World i have at least one non-salad option everywhere, some places even have full vegetarian menus (Sanaa, La Hacienda de San Angel). I can't complain!

One thing you might ask about if he has more basic tastes is getting an adult portion of the kids whole grain pasta with marinara and seasonal vegetables. That's not really an off menu option just paying for and getting a larger portion of something. I know most Disney restaurants will let you do that.

What a great idea, I have never thought of doing that before - thanks! :thumbsup2

Thank you everyone....after much fretting (haha), I decided to keep our BOG dinner ADR ( though I did cancel one this weekend after finalizing our plans) ...figured we have the soup option....I'm all game over the ratatouille...and maybe if nothing else, my husband can get some of the kid's pasta and marinara if nothing else is suggested. I think I'd be sad not getting to experience it..... No dessert though....cause we have the Wishes Dessert Party later! :)

Since I began this thread. . .I figured I'd come back and let everyone know (who might care), that we did in fact keep our Be Our Guest reservation.

I was a little concerned at first when our server started going on about "the favorite dishes". . .and when I told him my husband and I were vegetarians, he said "ratatouille it is!" and sort of chuckled. (oh, dear I thought) He went on to mention the soups as an option as well. . . I asked if there was anything else that we might be overlooking on the menu----that perhaps he's had other vegetarians order. Came back with a quick 'no'. . .as if to say, "order from the menu". I scoured quickly and asked if we could get say a side dish of something. . .and he said anything that we saw paired with an entree could be a side dish. . .and left us to ponder further.

So. . .along with the basket of rolls that was placed at the table, we ordered two servings of the potato and leek soup (was fine. . .but we felt Rose & Crown's was far better later in the week!). We each ordered the mixed greens salad also from the appetizer menu. We ordered one entree of the ratatouille (since as you may have read earlier, i wasn't sure if my husband would be jazzed by it). And we ordered a side dish of the macaroni au gratin that otherwise came with one of the meat entrees.

My husband did try the ratatouille. . .though it probably wasn't his favorite. He really liked the macaroni side dish, so with the exception of a tiny bite on my part, I left that with him.

Though I thought the ratatouille was nicely presented, the vegetables seemed very sparse compared to the quinoa "cake" on the bottom. Had I known, I would have scoured the menu further for a side of green beans or something to accompany it. . .I almost felt like their should have been an extra vegetable side with the dish. . . Had I not ordered the soup and salad, I would have been disappointed.

Oh well. . . I was glad we kept the ADR so we could experience the new place. . .I got to carry a candelabra into the castle when our pager went off. It was quite amazing inside of course. . .but stayed incredibly loud throughout the meal---such that my husband and I really couldn't carry on a conversation without raised voices or saying, "what?" again and again.

I was surprised with the popularity of the restaurant and so many people dying to get in, that they were only utilizing the ballroom and west wing for dinner. Not sure if that is always the case. . .maybe the other room doesn't lend itself to a dinner experience. . .

To give our server credit. . .he did a wonderful job outside of his initial comments that made me nervous. He offered to serve our meal in three courses so we had our soup first, salad next. . .and then entree---nicely supplied with an extra plate. Later he told us that his wife is a somewhat recent vegetarian and that actually he rarely eats meat because of her and doesn't miss it. . .went on to talk about these amazing falafel she makes!

Thank you for coming back and posting a review. We have a reservation there in October :)

Hi
Thanks for all the info. I don't eat any meat and was thinking of eating there for lunch and just getting soup and a dessert, but now I might try to get an
ADR for dinner.

You may or may not be aware that they offer a veggie quiche during their quick service hours. So...that too is an option if you eat eggs.... :)
