I can't believe that it has taken me so long to figure this out. For the longest time I have been looking at my number of posts and thinking that the number hasn't been changing and that I have posted a lot more than the number indicated. Today I noticed that the number not only didn't move but seemed to go backwards.

Well.............after I post I use the back button to go back to the forum...silly me....then the next time I post it posts as the same number. Oh my! No wonder why it has taken me so long to get anywhere!

Has anyone else noticed this?

Just testing out your observation... was at 2116. Hitting back button for this one.

I'll test this. Maybe this is why my count is so low. I'll use the back button on this entry.

You're right - my last two posts both say 2117, I hit the back button for the second one. I do this all the time - no wonder my post count seemed so low for so long.

This reminds me of Ferris Bueller - remember they tried to drive the car backwards to erase the miles they had put on the dad's car. hehe

I know...it took me forever to figure out....it is very strange...lol

lol....how true....i don't think it changes either if you post on the same thread more than once...

I'm confused about what y'all are confused about:teeth:. Maybe I don't use my back button to do what you are talking about, plus I don't pay much attention to my post count. But okay - I'm going to post here and my post count should go up to 3094. . .I'll post again after that to say if it did and then see if it goes to 3095.

That is weird. OK, I'm at 438 now so let me post this and go back...

just another test :)

Yup, didn't update for me. I never use the back button though - seems like it's an extra click. I just click on the "community board" link when I finish posting.

Allright, it should be 439 now. I will post and then go back? Is that how you have been doing it?

Okay I am glad that I am not the only one that was confused. :rotfl:

I guess I'm not getting it, but what exactly are you doing? Do you mean you post, hit submit message, and then hit your Back button to go back to the thread? That's what I did and the count was the way it should be.

You're not posting and then just hitting the Back button without hitting Submit Message, are you?

Ok, let's have a discussion about how web browsers and the post count work....

When you hit the back button, it's reloading the same page that you just viewed. It does not go back to the DIS to get the page again, so your post count will stay the same as it was when you had that page up before. To truly get a NEW page you need to hit your refresh button.

(Of course, having said that I should also point out that someone could have a browser configured to NOT cache like this, so some people it may be different on. Your browsing would be MUCH slower if you did this.)

Ok, so you hit the refresh button, but your post count didn't change to go up. I believe that the DIS does not update your post counts in 'real time' which means it doesn't do it when you post. It may be pretty quick at updating it, but I think that it would be slower at updating those numbers when lots of people are on the boards. Your count may not get updated for a while even though you post a bunch of posts.
