In the mood for some special New Year's Eve celebrations at The Contemporary ?

Here you go:

California Grill @ Contemporary Resort

12/31/11

Price: $550.00 per person, all ages :faint:

Enjoy food stations, beverages and fireworks at this elegant New Year's Eve event. There will be entertainment, including casino-style games, Disney characters and live music. Food stations will include: Seafood, Chilled appetizers, Hot appetizers, Sushi, Grill and Rotisserie, Wood Burning, Vegetarian, Dessert & Cheese.

Unbeleivable. :scared1:

They offered this last year too, so it must have done well enough to bring it back. Crazy, huh?

A "wood burning" station? For people who need more charcoal in their diet? Won't that set off the alarms? :confused3

That's pretty typical of a lot of NYC metro area places. Exactly why I stay home w/ chinese take out on NYE...;)

An absolute Bargain.

For NYE 1999/2000 is was $1,000 ++ per person and sold out!

Half price if you live in Golden Oaks :rotfl2:

and probably a lot of other places in large cities. The real shocker in prices at Disney to me is the soda. Good grief, fountain soda costs pennies! Why in the name of all that's holy are they charging so much for it???

This part puzzled me as well.

Since none of you seem surprised at the price, I guess that it's me who is out of touch.

I just find it odd that for me and three of my friends to attend would cost more than my first car. :rotfl:

It isn't just Disney, everybody charges alot for soda. It's where they make their money. I notice alot of restaurant coupons now say "with the purchase of 2 sodas" (which really annoys me because I don't drink pop and truly prefer water) I have a friend that works for a beverage company that supplies soda syrup to bars and restaurants, he told me a large soda is about 5 cents worth of product.

Making even more ridiculous to charge for it at an event you are charging $285 a ticket for.

Soft drinks is where they make a lot of markup, it helps pay for other things, and also lets them take a lower markup on actual food items. Draught beer also has a lot of mark up built into the price.

You also have to remember that the fountain machines aren't free to maintain, nor is the water and CO2 and paper cup used to make it. It is over priced, but it's not always as much as you think. Especially with smaller ma & pop restaurants found locally.

Bottled Coke in the parks is actually not a bad price, it's not much more than what I pay for a 600 mL bottle locally.

Seriously? They charge $2.50 for a 20oz bottle (or is it more now). I can buy a 2L bottle for less than $1.00 around here. One store has it on sale this week for $.89. That's more than 3 20oz bottles, so $.89 vs. over $7.50 at Disney prices.

We typically buy cans, not bottles, so it doesn't go flat. We generally pay about $3 for a 12-pack. That's 144 oz or just over 7 bottles worth so $3 vs. $17.50 at Disney prices.

Guess what we drink when we're at Disney - TAP WATER. It's FREE!

By the way, I also think this is nuts. That would be $1,650 for the 3 of us. Considering that we can do an entire week at Disney for a little over $2,000, I can't imagine spending that much for one evening.

casino-style games ... that is interesting :confused3

If I had that kind of money, I would do it in a heartbeat!

Wood Burning station would be like Via Napoli, I believe.

That's a lot of money...I'll stay home.

Comparing a bulk item (2liter bottle / 12pk) etc to what is considered a single serve item isn't quite comparing apples to apples. Even 15yrs ago I was able to go to a local gas station and pay $1 for a cold 2ltr from a major gas station chain in Atlanta, or $1 for a 16oz bottle over with main soda/juice section of the fridges.

Even now, a 16oz seems to run about $99, a 20oz about $1.59, and a 2ltr about $1.20 or so at the chains in PA. (regular prices... not including the regular specials like 2 for $2, etc)

99 dollars for a 16oz soda???? That *IS* outrageous! ;)
