Odd weight loss question

I know you're not supposed to weigh yourself obsessively when you're on a diet, BUT out of curiosity I weighed myself this evening after yesterday morning.
Here's the backstory.. Since my weight-loss plan started less then month ago I have lost about 14 pounds. My weight has been pretty steady this week, but when I used the scale today is said I gained about 5 pounds. :rolleyes1
You can't gain THAT much weight in a day right? I didn't work out yesterday since it was a 'rest' day, and now I'm feeling guilty. lol

BTW..I put the scale in the closet. (out of sight, out of mind)..lol :rotfl:

Hi! My first thought is it might be water weight. Did you eat something with a lot of salt or sodium? Or is it "that time" of month?

And congrats on the 15 pound loss!

Isn't it better to weigh yourself at the same time every day in order to track it properly?

Plus there is what you have eaten or drank today. If there was no, ahem, elimination today then that could explain alot too.

We fluctuate in weight. I'd be a basket case if I weighed myself everyday:scared1:

Awsome job on the loss of 15!

My weight fluctuates about 5 lbs. every day. I wouldn't worry about it. I lost 30 lbs. a few years ago and ever since then I weigh myself every day. It takes a couple of seconds in the morning and I feel like it keeps me on track. I could care less if it says I've gained a few lbs. (although I don't even start getting back on track until it's a consistent weight gain instead of a normal fluctuation) as I just know I need to get back on track and take it day by day. The weight can slowly creep up (like it did to me the first time) if you don't notice it. Good luck and congrats on your success so far! :goodvibes

Congrats on the loss! I've gained 5 pounds in a day when I use the Wii. It depends on the time of day, what you have on, and even what exactly you ate. Sometimes you may have had more salt than others. I'm sure there are lots of other reasons. Just keep working at it. Weighing every day is not really showing true progress I don't think...plus as you saw, can be discouraging. I know I would like to slap the Wii when it says obese! Just know you are improving your health.

Because weight fluctuates so frequently I would recommend weighing yourself once a week, not every day. It is much the same as the stock market. If you check your long term investments portfolio (and health is a long term investment) every day you will just drive yourself nuts.

It is best to weigh yourself first thing in the morning after you empty your bladder.

Good for you on your weight loss, and I don't think it's an odd question at all. I wouldn't worry about a fluctuation as long as you're continuing to eat sensibly and exercise often. It was probably due to water retention. Last year I lost 45 lbs. by following the south beach diet and exercising most days of the week. I met my weight loss goal right before our trip to WDW and I was really nervous that I'd gain back some weight. I stayed on track the entire vacation - I think my only indulgence was a frozen coke!
While I was losing weight I'd weigh myself every morning. Now that I'm maintaining I check the scale every other day or so.
I wish you success in your journey! My main motivation was better health, and my health has improved so much in the last year. I no longer have high blood pressure, my blood sugar is normal, and I feel younger.

From someone who lost over 100 pounds, don't weigh yourself everyday or you will drive yourself crazy. Once a week, at the same time, is sufficient. You will literally go nuts because of the fluctuations LOL.. It got so bad with me that I had to have my DH hide the scale and then he would bring it out every Saturday morning for me and then put it away again. I laugh everytime I remember it!!

Unless you're actually using the scale as a step exerciser ;)

Thanks.

This is the first serious weightloss attempt since a few years ago when I went on the Atkins diet. I was all gung-ho about that one and even lost about 20 pounds, until about 2 months in I realized, I don't absolutely worship meat THAT much. :rotfl:

I call this a healthy lifestyle change rather then a diet, since diets are what you do when you need to lose 20 pounds for a reunion in a month, and then go back to eating cheetos right after. ;)

I have been doing the Wii EA Active workouts 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week. As far as food goes , I have been eating more fruits, vegis, cutting back calories and eating more fiber-y stuff. I have also been reading the "Eat this Not That " books for advice on the rare occasions we go out to eat from time to time.
