Odd question - To those sensitive to Air Conditioning

Ok, folks, this my seem like a weird question to most folks. In the summertime, when it's very hot outside, and I am wearing shorts and sleevless top, and I go into an AC restaurant, I FREEZE. I absolutely cannot enjoy myself. I normally keep a sweater in the car for such occasions. I can't be the only one, am I? We are planning our first summer trip to WDW and this question just popped into my mind. (Don't know why since it's a bloody blizzard outside my window right now...)

Anyway, do others who have this problem at home carry a sweater or something to use in the AC restaurants and/or attractions or is this not a problem at WDW? If places kept the AC down to a reasonable level, I would be fine. And it would save on electricity too!!

Better to have it and not use it than to not bring it and be too cold. If you're that sensitive to the A/C, I'd think that a sweater was a necessity no matter where you are. But at WDW, there are so many people in each space, that the A/C levels are set for full venues. And when you go into a show or a restaurant that isn't full, it's often too cold. Bring the sweater!

Last May when we were at WDW it was very hot during the day, but at night it cooled off and I was cold inside air conditioned buildings. We went to the movies at PI one night and I brought a light sweater, but I was wearing shorts and my legs were freezing! It was really uncomfortable! This May I'm planning on bring a pair of jeans for when we go out at night.

I'm very sensitive to AC, and I freeze and sometimes even get migraines. This happens anywhere, from rides, restaurants to any sort of indoor area that uses AC. I usually do keep a sweater or cardigan of some sort with me, maybe tied it around my waist so I don't have to carry it. Also the scizophrenic temperatures (hot to cold to hot to cold) aren't good either, so I try to keep it as stable as possible.

I tie a sweater or jacket around my waist too - glad to know I'm not the only one! Actually, last April I tried to go without it just to force myself to feel the sun (for crying out loud, I was escaping the frozen tundra, after all! How wussy could I get?!) but ended up wishing I had it anyway.

I'll take my sweater. I'm sure my DH will be making fun of me, since it will be 95 degrees with high humidity. Oh well. I like the idea of tying it around my waist so I don't have to carry it.

I always carry my Old Navy anorak-in-a-pouch at WDW, even in the hottest FL weather. I've used it more to stay warm in restaurants than I have to stay dry in the rain.

Riight now at places like Target and Old Navy they have those light terry/jersey jackets. I think these are super cute tied around your waist, and maybe not so bulky as a sweater or lined windbreaker.....

i carry a jacket/sweatshirt around with me everytime i leave the house in the summer. I am always cold!! Every restaurant, store, etc. If I try to go grocery shopping in the summer, I come out shivering!! I used to have a job where they kept the AC low, like 70 degrees and I would go to work in a sweater in July. I always bring a sweater with me to WDW too. It is a pain, but otherwise I would be curled up in a ball shivering. I have also tried just bringing a windbreaker that folds up into a pocket, and that works, but I was still a little cold. I feel like I just joined a support group . I know exactly how you feel! There were a couple of occasions where I did use my sweater last June-especially in sit-down restaurants. I mostly needed it in the hotel room because everyone else wanted/needed the air blasting and I was freezing I found myself taking the dog out, whether she needed to or not, just to warm up .

I am just like you...Definitely bring something to stay warm that you can tie around your waist! Disney is extremely generous with its air conditioning and I find myself freezing everytime I go into their restaurants, but even some rides (dark enclosed rides like POTC, Space and Splash Mountain etc.) are very cold as well as the buses and monorails. Even on 95 degree days!
My family all think I'm nuts...so I have to wear it in the hotel room too even though we can control that temperature.

Daxx's wife here! Like the OP, I am always cold in AC areas (Disney or otherwise). The running joke is that if it's not 90* outside or inside, I'm cold. I think, in July at WDW, the only places I made sure I had a sweater were in the restaurants. Usually, the AC wasn't blasting on the rides (although I still think the chilliest ride is POTC) so I was fine. But restaurants ... that's a whole other story! As the rides are usually over fairly quickly, I "suck it up" and don't wear the sweater (and huddle close to Daxx!). But, I cannot enjoy my meal if I'm cold! I even wear my sweater when I'm enjoying the Ice Cream social! Haha! Most people are grateful for the AC in July ... not me! Even in our hotel room, I'm the one snuggled under the blankets in July b/c Daxx has the air up!! Don't feel like a dork walking around w/a sweater tied around your waist. Know that there are others in the same boat! I'm always ready w/my Disney themed sweater ... even on the hottest days!

We were at WDW last June. It was hot and humid every day (I loved it) and then it would thunderstorm about 5pm almost every day and the temp would drop to probably 75. I froze! It was so bad that one day I was in MK looking for a sweatshirt to buy, but do you think I could find one? The best I could find was a long-sleeved t-shirt that was way too big! It looked like I was not wearing any shorts! Another night I was in Columbia Harbour House ordering hot chocolate and the CM looked at me like I was nuts! We stayed at the Dolphin and the hallways there were freezing! Those deluxes and their inner hallways kill me! Sci-Fi was freezing too. This July I will be taking more than 1 sweatshirt like I did last time and I don't care if I look weird wearing one when it in the 70's!

I am the joke of the family...always wrapped up in a fleece blanket around the house. AC can make me very CRANKY! When we visit the parks we carry a small back-pack and I always throw a sweatshirt or sweater in it. If we are just heading out to dinner at WDW I will wear warmer clothes knowing the AC will be blowing frigid air. Hey, I would rather be too hot than too cold...my mother keeps telling me: "you just wait until menopause"! ha-ha

I feel like showing this thread to my polar bear husband who is never cold. My girls and I froze in WDW five years ago when we got wet on a water ride then ate lunch in a full service restaurant. I was so uncomfortable that I went and bought long sleeved t-shirts to throw over our clothes in case we walked into any more refrigerators! We wore light jackets tied around our waists for the rest of the trip. Sports stores carry warm but very lightweight jackets made for atheletes. It might be worth looking into that for our trip in Aug. It seems that the hotter and more humid it is, the more trouble I have with very cold restaurants.
