Odd question about direct DVC sales

With this business decision, DVC immediately troubled me as a potential customer. With 450k people, they are not going to lose any sleep over it but it was still a frustration for me.

This is, of course, another good reason to buy resale. There aren't really any salespeople per se. The brokers really just list the properties and handle the paperwork.

Respectfully, that is easy for you to say since Disney currently honors your preferred method of information exchange. Your preference happens to be in line with the one they use. *MY* preference is summarily ignored by the company.

I am a webmaster who handles all of my negotiations via email. In fact, I have to go back to 2007 to remember a signed agreement that was not largely discussed in this manner.

Even if this had not been my preferred form of contact prior to then, I had to watch two years ago as people willingly perjured themselves in order to deny the truth about a fire in my home. Everyone had acknowledged the events the day of the fire when the firemen were still at the building. Once people lawyered up, however, it was remarkable how much those (thankfully) documented events became questioned, though. Honest firemen saved us twice in this regard.

Still, that was a teaching moment for me. I recognized that anyone who uses the phone but will not leave a paper trail is reserving the right to lie shamelessly later in the process.

I see you cause for concern . But from my experience the guides I used were very honest and helpful , and they aren't trying to slight you . I have delt with ins companies many times and would like to avoid being in that situation
ever again , although probably not possible . There are some reports here that of guides that weren't to god but I don't think I'd compare them to ins adjusters .

I appreciate your guide information. I cannot reply until I have more posts on the board. :thumbsup2

I don't see Bill's statement as contradictory to your experience as stated. While I think your experience was the norm historically, it has not been quite as much so in recent years. IMO, they should be more pressure than you experienced, their job IS to sell DVC which they can do and still be honest and professional.

Yes!! In fact, my guide is so "zero pressure" that I feel like I have to nag and nag just to get a contract going. She's very kind. I have yet to get a sales pitch from any of the guides (limited experience - just 3 ppl). I guess I've been lucky.

As I noted, your main reason for wanting this is the very reason it's against policy so you can't use the documentation to contradict other information. Some guide's do ignore the policy but not many. I think your best defense is to learn the system and places like here are your best bet.

I remember the report from years ago of someone who did the tour, were ready to buy but weren't actually asked or offered. They assumed they didn't qualify and didn't buy. Retail sales are the life blood of the system which would stagnate and die without them.

LOL this was my experience too , with 3 different guides . The first one I was hoping would call to solicit new deal ect but never did until almost a year later .

I sympathize with your situation. However, I hope you've learned from this thread that it's not that the guides plan to act with duplicity, it's that they don't want there to be details written that might deviate from the contract. Because the contract is all that matters. Maybe it would help if you had a copy of the contract so you'd know what's in it and what's not.

I'm really sorry about your earlier experience. I think the difference here is that it's not a past event to be documented, it's a future event (contract signing), so you might as well just look at the contract for the firm details, and anything else (like how easy is it really to book at 7 months out), you can ask here.

It's worth noting that resale buyers receive documents totaling around 10 pages including the contract. Direct buyers receive 334 pages if paying cash, 292 are in 2 books. It's expected that the sellers will provide the buyers with the all of the documents but in reality most do not.

Plus regardless of what is or is not received, the resale buyer assumes the same risks and responsibilities as the original owner as well as any additional current or future risks that come with resale.

No problem . That's funny a they have a post limit for that .
If they didn't, you would be getting dozens of spam messages every day from people who would create accounts on the DIS just to offer you and hundreds of other DISboards members some unbelievable deals on cheap electronics. With the 10 post restriction, newly registered spammers are limited to posting their offers directly in the forums, where their posts are reported by DIS members so they can be promptly removed by the moderators.
