I've been trying to get a collections removed from my credit report since I first noticed it in October. On my credit report, it is listed under agency A. I wrote a dispute to them, etc, and haven't heard back from them despite my attempts to contact them. I have never received a letter, phone call, etc. from this company about this supposed debt from the gas/electric company from the state we previously lived in. I only found it because I pulled my credit report dealing with something else on it.

Last week I received a letter from a different company, agency B, for the same debt. I have written a letter of dispute to them as well, with all my supporting documents. I haven't pulled my report, but I'm assuming that there will now be two collections reports on there for the same debt because it has (I guess) gone to two different collection agencies?

I want to clear this up with agency B, because they have actually made contact with me, and their letter was actually friendly. (shocker!) and I can't seem to get in touch with anyone at agency A.

What do I do about agency A? They reported it, but haven't done anything about it. How do I get them removed from my report? There isn't a phone number listed for them on the credit report, and when I google it, I get an automated message to please leave a message and an agent will contact you soon. (they never have)

Any suggestions?
And I hope that this all makes sense!
Thanks!

Put in a dispute with the Credit bureaus and not the collection agencies. You can dispute it for various reasons and that would be your best route. You can also do the dispute online.

Likely company B bought it from company A. If so, company A should reported it as transferred and closed.

Are you saying that these collections are unknown to you? You would be wise to call or write the credit bureaus that show them and dispute the accounts. Be sure and include your report number if you write. Sometimes it's also a good idea to call the collection bureaus particularly if they dig in their heels but never volunteer any information about yourself. And only do this if you think the debt could be yours. Otherwise tell them to forget it.

Yes, I had no idea of this collection until I saw it on my credit report. It's for 119.00 for a gas/electric company that was billed to us after we moved out. I have our bank statement from when we paid our last payment online through their online payment system. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if I can get anywhere with the bureaus.
