Was anyone else concerned about disclosure #11 on the "Product Understanding Checklist" for Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas?

The disclosure reads as follows:

"11. There is no guarantee that animals will continue to be located on the savannahs in the future and you should not purchase in reliance of the continued presence of such animals."

Why would anyone stay at Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas if the savannahs ceased to exist?

I wouldn't be terribly concerned by this. The only guarantee you have with your DVC contract is the ability to book a room at your home resort. Everything else is a perk and can and probably will be modified or removed in some shape or form over time. The fact of the matter is that animals are living things and as such, are more difficult for Disney to control. This clause is simply a way for Disney to cover themselves in the event that the animals die off, or if they become too expensive to justify keeping them. Can Disney remove the animals from the AK Lodge? Absolutely. Will they? Well, that depends on who you ask.

As for your question about why would anyone stay at AKV if the savannahs ceased to exist...I'm not sure. :)

Because it's a beautiful resort and iit's quiet and off the beaten path. It's one of our home resorts and we stay savanah view about half the time and standard the other half. Our DD6 loves the animals and we do too but as certain as it would disappoint us to lose the animals, it wouldn't be a deal breaker; at least not for us.

As the poster above said, it's a CYA by Disney. The animals will be there as long as the resort is there, unless disease or maintenance becomes an extreme issue and let's face it, that ain't going to happen.

Lawyer speak. Plain and simple. Corporate attorneys covering the holding company's proverbial a$$. That's all.

I'm intrigued by your statement that seems (at least to me) to imply that there are even talks of removing the animals by some as we speak. I have never even heard an utterance of such a thing. I'd be interested in knowing who you asked that even would say such a thing.

I'm actually surprised the question even came up (No offense to the OP intended.) because AKL without the animals just ain't gonna ever happen and I don't think that's just MHO. :)

Thanks for asking for clarification. No conspiracy theories here, and no inside information. I was simply trying to point out that different posters here on the DIS would answer that question differently. I, being the wide eyed optimist that I am, think that Disney would never remove the animals from the Animal Kingdom Lodge and Villas. There are other, more practical members who seem to express little surprise at any of the changes DVC makes to the system. I was just trying to suggest that there is a range of opinions and I didn't want to "personally guarantee" something that could possibly change in the future.

Sorry for the confusion. :)

There is also wording that there is no garuntee that the theme parks will be there either :rolleyes1.

Very true. But in reality, the theme parks are money machines, so it is highly unlikely that they would shut them down. The animals, on the other hand, are a nice accent piece that consume money (figuratively, not literally).

I don't think many people would want to stay there without the animals, but the reality is that once you are a member, points are use or loose...so plenty of people will stay there because those would be the rooms available when they booked.

I don't know that it's likely to happen, but there are a lot of scenarios where it could happen. Disease becomes a problem. There is some sort of incident that raises insurance rates (an elephant get loose). Disney takes a huge PR hit on the keeping of animals. 50 years is a long time to guess where public opinion, legal decisions or biology will go...and I'm one of those that if during that time animals wer removed from the savannah, it would t surprise me....which isnt to say I think it's likely, just that I don't think it's impossible.

Could it happen, yes, will it, not likely. The animals on stage at Kidani and Jambo are minimal at best. Jambo will always have more to see because their guests pay cash. Pembe Savanna on the Kidani side is very disappointing IMO.

The animals on stage in the AK is a different issue. The cost to maintain them is expensive and the cost comes out of the Mouses pocket. AK is the least visited resort and Disney's effort seems to be in adding more and better rides, not animals.

That disclaimer doesn't surprise me at all. You're buying the real estate interest in the hotel, not it's surplus features. I bet somewhere in an OKW contract it says the pool slide may not always be there, or Stormalong Bay may be heavily altered at BCV.

I'd stay at AKV regardless. The lobby and rooms are gorgeous and it's off the beaten path. Not saying I hope the animals disappear, just that it wouldn't be the end of the world :)

When one buys into a timeshare, one needs to consider the worse things that can happen plus the most likely things. Realistically the animals could be removed permanently. The worst things are likely the resort closing or remaining open and the parks closing. There are many options that one could envision to be a negative that could actually happen.
