October's OHANA -- Exercise Challenge

597/1500
Well darn, I guess I should have done something for 3 minutes! Ah well. My day is just getting started so I am sure I will add some minutes later.

Ah college visits! DS2 did that this summer. Then this fall he asked if he could go back to some of them for overnight visits. Ah, no. Lovely idea, but we're not putting you on a plane for that. Local ones, sure. He is currently taking his SAT. He was a buggersnot and didn't take it in the spring like we told him. Hopefully he got a good night's sleep! :goodvibes He was in the shower when I left to get my teeth cleaned. Then home to a pot of tea. Gotta give the hygienist something to scrape off! :rotfl:

Want to sneak in a short hike this weekend. Now that everybody is healthy I hope we can go!

Go Team!

Nice to hear from others who've been there, done that re: college visits. This is our baby, and I can't believe she's a junior already. With the others, the goal was to have college aps done in the summer between Jr and Sr years, so that they could enjoy the Fall and not be stressing. So we're attempting the same here, but it's just come up so fast!!!! How is it possible that the youngest is already at this stage? Life does go fast, and time has a way of sneaking past...

This was some of my motivation for starting to exercise. It was/is a way to have other goals (not kid related) and to do something for me, to keep me from missing them all the time. To meet other adults who were not connected in some way to my kids' schools/activities/friends. And so the benefits are far past my physical well being, but also for my social and emotional needs....

Got out for a short walk yesterday and a run today. Hoping to get out again after all the turkey from the weekend. (Canadian Thanksgiving) :)

I spent the day cooking, organizing the kitchen and prepping the food for next weeks dinners. Hopefully that will help us stay on track and not eat out. I haven't done any exercise yet and it's not looking like I'll leave the house today so maybe I'll pull out the wii fit later or have a dance party with the girls.

To all the parents taking their kids to college - I'N SO NOT READY FOR THAT! Lol my oldest is in grade 7 this year and I'm still trying to come to grips with the fact that she'll be in high school next year!

dizzyr - good for you for not throwing in the towel. I can't imagine how frustrated you must have been. I admire your attitude towards the whole situation. Do you have your eye on a specific local 5K yet? I would love to do a Disney race some day. They just seem a bit cost prohibitive at the present time, but a girl can dream and sometimes dreams that you wish will come true. (and now I have that Cinderella song about "a dream is a wish your heart makes...." stuck in my head). Have a great Saturday, everyone!

I decided on one called the Santa shuffle in December. It's a 5k through Stanley Park (an absolutely gorgeous park that was rated #1 park in the world by trip advisor this year) and it's a fun run and not timed. I figured a timed run may discourage me if my time is rally bad but I still wanted something g close enough timewise that I would feel like I needed to kick up the training a notch.

This determination is new - I wanted to do the castaway cay 5k when we went last year and I didn't train once. Didn't even download the app. Something feels different this time and I just was to go with it.

Good Morning Team - first post is all updated, and we have some folks so close to turning Purple Power. Personally, I've still got a ways to go, but it's so inspiring to see EVERYONE's progress so far.

2TxAgs - your motiviation really touched me personally. The idea of doing something just for ourselves. I think that concept gets lost way too often, whether it's exercising or reading a book, or even taking the time to enjoy a quiet cup of tea every now and then. I'm a huge believer that taking the time out to recharge is so important and actually makes us better partners, parents, employees, etc.

HAPPY CANADIAN THANSKGIVING EVE! to our Canadian family members!

I am in Williamsburg, VA this weekend, girl's weekend. ( calling ourselves girls is funny, 3 of us retired this year!) whatever! Lots of walking.. Adding 120 minutes so far this weekend. 240/900 so far.

Over six miles of run/walk intervals today, and walked a 5k yesterday. Noticing shins a bit; might be time to break out the new shoes. :yay::yay: (except that they're another pair of the SAME shoes which now seems so boring)

65 minutes for my walk/run today (including warm up and cool down), which puts me at ...

I'm in purple now, right? WooHoo! I hope this means I'll make goal!

I hope everyone else is doing great!

I'm so ready for it to feel like October and not August!

Congrats SarahDisney for getting halfway to your goal - and its only the 12th!:cool1:

The "Santa Shuffle" sounds like a fun one! I'm west coast too, so I recently started eyeing the Disneyland runs. I'm not nearly as far along the path as you are to actually running a 5K, but I can feel a determination/plan in the works. Finding a race that fits my (my kids' really) schedule is tough. But listening to you, 2TxAgs.... perhaps I need to rethink this and just sign up for a race for me. I can figure out the kid taxi replacement later, right?!

I am getting most of my minutes walking and doing some yard work.

Putting myself down fo 61 minutes yesterday.

Trust me - it feels like October here. It was 36 degrees on my run yesterday, but with clear blue skies so it was beautiful.

I got home and tried to do a yoga video, but for some reason as I was doing yoga in the living room, everyone decided to try to talk to me. "Heather, do you know where the slow cooker cookbook is, it isn't where you said it would be.?" (which, actually it was) "Mom, what time are we going to leave to go apple picking?" "Mom, whatcha doing?" "Mom, the lady on the video is doing it different than you are." So yeah....not exactly a quiet mindful yoga environment.

ah well.

Adding in 120 minutes of walking this weekend in Pennsylvania plus 80 minutes of exercise this morning (cardio, then yoga).

So in Lancaster, PA this weekend, my eating was not as bad as it could have been, but not great either. I did go for veggies and fruits first, and ate less bread than I normally would have, but I still overate. I'm back on track though this morning, completely. I'm a lifetime member of weight watchers and I'm trying the simple start right now, which is 2 weeks long. It's eating off the filling foods list only (focuses on lean proteins, fat free milk and yogurt, fruits, veggies, 2 tsp of healthy oil per day, and whole grains), but I get 7 points per day to use on foods that aren't on the list. Only 7 daily, no more no less. Use them or lose them. I need this plan to keep me in check! Then afterwards I'm going to switch to the Simply Filling Technique, which is similar to simple start, only I get the full 49 extra points per week for foods not on the filling foods list, but I can use them as I wish throughout the week and not only allowed up to 7 per day. So if I go out to eat on a Saturday evening and feel like having a cheeseburger which is a lot of points, I can just deduct that from my weekly extra 49. I also earn activity points for my exercise on the Simply Filling Technique, but not on simple start..no option to use those on foods during simple start.

I'm hoping this will all get me on the right track with my eating once and for all. I did something similar to this after I had my little one, called the Core plan on weight watchers, and it worked very well for me plus curbed my cravings for the bad carbs and stuff. I just need to stay focused and it should work. I'm also 7 years older now than I was then (I'm 37), which seems to be affecting my weight as well, but I'm hoping to see some positive results.

I had a really good day today - 74 minutes!

I'm hoping to get some in early tomorrow before spending the day in the car driving the kiddo back to college and making the return trip.

It's been a great break. Only 42 more days before she comes home for Thanksgiving. (but who's counting ;))

Yay, purple power! :)

We had lots of fun on our trip. Last time for Dutch Wonderland though my big one is outgrowing it we've been going there since 2007...time sure flies! Hershey park next time instead...they have the smaller rides for DS7, and the bigger rides for DS9. We made our own ice cream at Turkey Hill and it was lots of fun too! :)
