October's OHANA -- Exercise Challenge

452/1500

Sorry to everybody who has the cruds. I called Saturday my napping day. I did a little something, then slept for an hour (or 2 or 3!), got up and did another little thing or 2 then slept again. Did that right up until bedtime where I proceeded to zonk the entire night! Felt better on Sunday. Still was a slug, though. I think I'm over everything now. :thumbsup2

It's funny. I think of my exercise as just a part of what I do. There's no big motivation because I don't even think about it anymore. I just roll out of bed at o'dark thirty and go. I must say though, that at class they will talk about ya if you don't go. That's motivation. (It's never anything mean, just wondering where you are.) My other workouts are walking with friends and I just love that sooo much. In analyzing this, I see that I am apparently motivated by other people. Even swimming. The lifeguard is a super nice and friendly grandpa kinda guy.

Rose--wahoo on all the positive life changes/big happenings :cheer2:

I've decided I'm going to need to change my swim time to about half an hour later. That means I won't shower until after my walk, which means my hair might be wet still when I go to work. I don't like that! :sad2: The pool has been pretty crowded lately and I've had to wait for a lane. Today was my first day back since being sick, and it was full with one person waiting. Then another arrived. I decided to go home, shower and grab coffee with friends I used to walk with! :coffee:

Better go see what DH wants for dinner (he just finished exercising)! DS is sick so he and I shared some top ramen (in separate bowls!!).

Catching up:

Friday, 10/3- Stairclimber, treadmill and bicycle - 60 minutes
Monday, 10/6- Elliptical, stairclimber, treadmill and bicycle - 60 minutes
Tuesday, 10/7- Elliptical, stairclimber, treadmill - 55 minutes
Today, 10/8 - Walking and stairs - 37 minutes

272/900

So sorry that so many are battling colds and the crud. Get well soon! :goodvibes

+ 31 for me.

I'm flustered with myself. The week before my last weigh in I worked really hard to meet my September goal, ate well and hit my first weight loss goal.

This past week I don't know what happened. It's like I stand on the edge and I can see what's possible and then instead of taking it to the next level, I retreat. This morning, I stepped on the scale and I knew what was going to happen and sure enough there it was, the number I was pretty sure was coming. and I know...I know, it's just a number and weight fluctuates pretty wildly, but I also know that I let myself down. I didn't try. I know what's possible and I went in the opposite direction.

I do that, too and know how you feel. Years ago, I was doing Weight Watchers (for like the third time), but that time I had a different outlook. I decided it was a marathon, not a sprint, and I didn't care how long it took me, I would reach my goal weight and make lifetime. I did it. Kept the weight off for quite a while, and weighed in at the meetings at least once a month to keep my status. Well, you can guess what happened....I quit going to meetings and slowly, but surely, the weight has crept back on.
I can't seem to get that same mindset. I will lose weight and then get to a certain point and (like you say - get to the edge and see what's possible) then mess up.

So this weeks' question for the group is this - what's at least one thing that motivates you to exercise?

These exercise threads have been a huge motivation for me to get active. I actually began in April, and my motivation was a trip to New York City, where my DD2 had moved to in January. I knew we would be doing tons of walking and climbing many stairs. It helped so much.

My DD1 and I are leaving next Thursday to visit DD2 in NYC and that's a motivation to me to get out and walk (or get on the treadmill) and do stairs. I want to be as fit as possible because I want to enjoy the city and not be huffing and puffing everywhere we go! I also started riding the bicycle at the gym, because one of the things I want to do is rent bikes and ride in Central park.

So I do have some motivation! I must say I appreciate those of you who take on the hosting duties each month. I'm very thankful I found these exercise threads and it has made a difference for me! I haven't been this consistent in exercising for a long time. I feel like I've gotten back in the "groove!"

Another 23 minutes today. Should bring me to 153/900 total.

My cold is getting much better, so I should be able to start getting more exercise done. It's so odd how many folks have the bug here. No one else seems sick in my area! Hope it passes quickly for those still sniffling!!

Several days of just short walks, but got in 60 min this morning, so that helped bump me up.

We are starting to take our HS Junior on college visits, so I'll be getting in some campus walks later this month and next. Such an exciting time for the kids, but kind of a hankie moment for parents....

 We have an only, so I feel your pain. It was a tough transition, but I love seeing the young adult that my ds is becoming (he is 23 now). :)

did a short walk and a short run and was doig to call it a day but then I realized I was just a few minutes from the 300 minute mark - so I hit the floor and worked on those abs.

30 min run this morning
45 min elliptical tonight

I can relate to the changes with kids going to college. I also agree it's rewarding to see them become adults.

As for the motivation question. Originally when I started exercising regularly 10 years ago my hubby was my motivation. When I didn't want to go to the gym I'd be shamed into going when he headed to the car. And I motivated him some days when he needed a push too. Now I'm motivated because I feel so much better when I'm active. I also keep a few races on my calendar in fun places to remind me to head out for a run each morning.

Congratulations to the newest members of Team Orange:

and me hmack

I have a hunch that by the end of the weekend we're going to have some team members joining the Purple Power, and as a family, we'll be Team Orange for sure.

Ah, college visites. I know them from the perspective of a mom and a college employee. They're a big deal for sure. The senior year of highschool can seem overwhelming with all of the deadlines and flurries of activities, just remember to take it one day at a time. My kiddo comes home from college today for the long weekend and I'm pretty pleased about that, despite the big bag of laundry and the, "mom, will you buy me/I need more...." requests that are sure to come home with her. No matter how old they get, they're still our babies.

I had a very unexpected "run" this morning when I realized I slept in and was late dropping my daughter off. Lol.

I am off today and have people coming over tonight so the rest of my day will consist of cleaning the house and getting ready! Hopefully I'll get in some good workouts this weekend since it's a long weekend here (Canadian thanksgiving).

My motivation was the 2015 tower of terror 10 mile run but they just cancelled it. I was so upset yesterday thinking that I would throw in the towel like so many other times but then I gave my head a shake and said its one run out of literally hundreds I have access to (we're very much a running city) so I quickly looked to see what I could sign up for locally and I'm signing up for a 5k run in December and then going from there. We may change our trip from oct 2015 to Jan 2016 for the marathon weekend.

It was a great exercise morning! 84 minutes :goodvibes brings me to 291/900.
dizzyr - Sorry to hear the TOT 10K was cancelled! Have you run other Disney races?

dizzyr - Sorry to hear the TOT 10K was cancelled! Have you run other Disney races?

No TOT was supposed to be my first! I've never run before and I'm 100++ lbs overweight. I have wanted to start running for a long time now but so far couldn't motivate myself. The TOT just jumped out at me and screamed DO IT! I made the decision a couple of weeks ago and since then I've walked and walked and walked and I've even done two C25K training runs. It was the motivation I needed to get my but in gear and get moving so I don't want to give in to the disappointment and quit. I'm on the west coast of Canada (Vancouver) so there are a lot of local runs I can enter to keep me training and motivated until I can do my first Disney run :)

congratulations to the newest true blue member:
Tasha228!

And joining Team Orange:
slightlyocdDisnyfan

I put myself down for 14 minutes, I almost didn't add it in, but every minute counts, right?

dizzyr - good for you for not throwing in the towel. I can't imagine how frustrated you must have been. I admire your attitude towards the whole situation. Do you have your eye on a specific local 5K yet?

I would love to do a Disney race some day. They just seem a bit cost prohibitive at the present time, but a girl can dream and sometimes dreams that you wish will come true. (and now I have that Cinderella song about "a dream is a wish your heart makes...." stuck in my head).

Have a great Saturday, everyone!
