I'm a newbie, but I think an October use year would be best. This way, if you need to cancel your October or December trip you will be easily able to bank or use your pts before the use year is over. If you cancel a June trip you will still be able to bank a percentage of your pts or you'll have at least 3 to 4 months to try and use the points for something else.
Coloradodad...if you primarily travel October through December, and October UY gives you the longest time to use your points in case you have to cancel a trip less than 30 days in advance. As indicated, you could also have time to bank 100% of your points if you cancel a trip prior to 30 days before the trip.
However, if you cancel out one of those June trips, you are already past your banking deadline for 100% of your points so the moral of that story is don't cancel out late on a June trip!!
One other comment. I think that it is a rare DVC owner who will vacation at the same times of the year throughout the entire length of their contract. We have primarily vacationed in the summer, and have February and October UYs on our two contracts.
UY really only comes into play if vacation plans change, especially within a month of the trip.
If you are prone to re-scheduling/cancelling vacations it might be an issue.
Emergencies, sickness happens no matter what time of year or UY.
I'm sure we don't "plan" on ressie cancellations, with that in mind...IMO.. UY is unimportant.
Yep...drag me if you must..I'll be there..to get to the "Magic" !!
