October Storms

What kind of storms does Florida usually get in mid to late October. I thought I was safe booking Oct. 15th thru 23rd, but this year seems awfully active. When does Florida usually see its last big weather? Any weather buffs out there have any historical information?

My DS and I were there last year from 10-18 to 10-25 and it was mid 80's and gorgeous the entire time. It truly depends on this years weather! We are leaving again on 10-30 to spend Halloween night with Mickie and friends and I'm a bit nervous too!

Aug & Sept are usually the busy months for the hurricanes and bad storms. This year though, with what we have been hit with in 3 weeks, I am not sure. I hope that the end of them is with Ivan not hitting here.

We took the Disney Cruise over Thanksgiving 2001. There was a hurricane out in the Caribbean that forced the cruise ships to change their route the week before we cruised.

When we went the first time in 1997 in late October - early November, it rained and poured the entire time. A few tornado warnings, no hurricanes on that trip.

We went last year, October 17th through the 25th, and had beautiful weather. Not a storm in sight!

Your chances are lesser in mid-to late October than they are in August and September. We just reached peak time for hurricanes. If you have to choose a time during hurricane season, mid to late October is the best time to go. Now it's up to Mother Nature, nothing else we can do about it. I leave in about 6 weeks and am hoping things get back to normal soon.

We always go in October and the weather has been great each time with the exception of Hurricane Floyd!

"The Atlantic hurricane season is officially from 1 June to 30 November. There is nothing magical in these dates, and hurricanes have occured outside of these six months, but these dates were selected to emcompass over 97% of tropical activity. The Atlantic basin shows a very peaked season from August through October, with 78% of the tropical storm days, 87% of the minor (Saffir-Simpson Scale categories 1 and 2 - see Subject D1) hurricane days, and 96% of the major (Saffir-Simpson categories 3, 4 and 5) hurricane days occurring then (Landsea 1993). Maximum activity is in early to mid September. Once in a few years there may be a tropical cyclone occurring "out of season" - primarily in May or December. "

Yikes! Keeping our fingers crossed, too. We're going 10/22 - 11/1.

We also have an October trip planned but I did plan with the possibility of there still being bad weather. It's not been unusual to have tropical storms or hurricanes in October or even late in the month HOWEVER as Mickeyfan mentiond the peak of hurricane season is Aug/Sept (really September)...UGH...Ivan the Terrible stay far away, you're not invited to FLORIDA on ANY day!!

We have gone twice in mid Oct. Both times there was a hurricane either pryor or after our trip. This time we are going early Oct. We are keeping our fingers crossed.

I'm also starting to worry about huricanes for our early October trip. I was there at that same time last year and the weather was perfect. Poor Florida has been through enough already! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the nasty storms stay away.

We have been down several times in mid-Oct since 1996 and have never had really bad weather - in fact, we have pretty much had gorgeous weather - 80s and sunny for the most part. We have had a rainy day or two as well as the sudden downpours that are just part of Florida. Have a great time.

I love October in WDW, I really think its the best month weatherwise to be there!

October has always been my favorite month to visit Disney. I think I've taken 6 trips during October over the years. We've been lucky and had great weather for all of those trips.

Reiterating what everyone else has said, weather's weather - it's pretty unpredictable. However, we had more rain on our 5-day trip in early August this year than we have had in all of our October trips combined, and we have gone during every part of October, beginning to end. This is an unusually active season for tropical storms, though, so who knows? I'm betting on beautiful weather, but we've got our December trip as back-up, just in case!

Hi Debbie - Looks like we'll be at the Poly at the same time! We're there 10/19-26, with my in-laws joining us for a long weekend. Just look for the petite woman in a family of talls trying to get her in-laws to agree on at least one activity!

We'll be there 10/6-10/10. All I can do is pray, we have Mnsshp tickets for the 8th. Fingers and toes are crossed!
