October park hours

My family and I are planning a trip in Oct 2006 near the beginning of the month. I have heard many people say this is a great time to visit. We will have a 4 and 2 year old. I have read in some books that some parks will close as early as 5pm. Is this true? Does anyone know the normal hours for the parks in October? How have people's experiences been for first week of October?
