October or January?

My wife and I have just started talking about taking our two kids (girl 7, boy 5 1/2) to WDW for the first time. We are looking at two possible dates: Wednesday, October 3 - Monday, October 8 (Columbus day) in 2007 or Wednesday, January 2 - Monday, January 7, 2008. Any opinions as to which time is more advantageous? We have read that it can be hot in early October - not sure if this is a good thing (as we can relax by pool in the late afternoon and perhaps try the water parks; we are also from Monteal hence the warm weather may be nice vs. "cooler' in January) or, if the heat and humidity will knock the young ones out. I am sure there are other factors as well to consider which we would love to hear about. Any feedback will be much appreciated!

Well no doubt that October will be much warmer but it will also be more crowded (Columbus Day, MNSSHP). The weather in January can fluctuate, I've been in January and actually sat out by the pool and it was very comfortable and after New Years the crowds really diminish, but you are also missing MNSSHP, which may be a factor for you. I guess it comes down to which ever works out better for work and school schedules! Good Luck

From a crowd standpoint, January will most likely be much better. Columbus Day weekend gets pretty busy. Yes, the weather is warmer, but it can often be very hot and humid, like last year. I like January...hopefully, most people would be returning to work/school, so the parks will be easy to navigate.

We vote for October that's when we always go!!!! :cool1: Have fun no matter what you choose

Yes, october will be a little busy b/c of Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party. But that may be an event you would enjoy- theres nothing quite like trick or treating at the magic kingdom. My son prefers it to the real thing. And the first week of Jan will be cold. I went 2 yrs ago in Jan and barely left the hotel. The wind was tearing through Down Town Disney like the streets of NYC. BUT I am a Florida girl. There were a couple (2-4) people I saw in the pool (I think all of them are heated)
But the park will definitely be less crowded then.
Good luck with your trip whatever you decide!

I really thing Jan is less corwded. We go every year in Jan and it is great the week after the marathon but not during MLK

I vote for January. Tempratures are comfortable, less humidity, smaller crowds. Personally I love to go south to Florida when it's cold up north! :sunny:

Another vote here for January. The weather is much nicer and the crowds shouldn't be all that bad.

See, never trust a Floridian about the weather!!! I think it is butt cold here in Jan and despise going out in the cold weather. we Stayed at the Poly Jan 2005 and spent the whole time cruising the monorail and checking out different hotel shops and resteraunts. I didn't wantto waste my 3 day parkhopper being miserable so I held onto it until our annual trip for MNSSHP.
