I know thats a magic 8-ball type of question.

I am going to be using miles to cover one way for me. So then I'll be buying one way return for me and full r/t for DS.

Right now prices are about $325 round trip on Alaska PDX-SNA.

Part of me says wait for awhile (the part of me that wants my 5% cashback on Discover for booking in July haha).

Part of me says "it may only go UP UP UP".

I just booked R/T PDX-LGB (Long Beach) for $175 Jet Blue, but I think Alaska flys into Long Beach too. It's a straight shot down Katella to DL.

Thanks! I just priced Jet Blue and it's roughly the same as what I'd be paying for my one way and round trip on AS however
1) I would get to keep my miles for use another time
and
2) Jet Blue you get one free checked luggage each!

QUESTION -- how are you getting from LGB to Anaheim, what is most cost effective?

We always fly into Long Beach and rent a car. Long Beach is such a small and easy airport. You walk off the plane, your luggage is right there, you walk a few steps out of the terminal and the rental car is right across the street. No shuttle vans, no lines. We have used super shuttle before, but found that renting a car costs about the same (for 4), plus we can stop at the grocery store and stock up on bagels, snacks, waters, etc. Also, we usually have a free day and like to go to the beach. I check with Costco and AAA for rentals. I think I booked this next trip through AAA (Hertz) and it was $179 for a week. I thought this was a little high, as previous years it has been $125. For the convenience though, it is worth it. If you look at an interactive map, you can see that it is a straight shot to Disneyland from the airport. Usually takes us about 30 minutes if we don't stop.

Good info also but I hadn't planned on needing a car for anything this trip.

I am leaning towards staying with SNA simply because I'm familiar with it, it appears closer and the return flights are at a better time for us.

But I appreciate the info on LGB, maybe a future trip!

I can't imagine that it would go up much more than that. I think I would probably wait. We did the same thing, used miles and $ for PDX-SNA for a July trip.

Last year we flew Virgin Airlines and it was much cheaper than Alaska. BUT, Virgin only flies into LAX.

Flights will definitely go down. This far out there is no reason to have a "good" fare. 3 months to one months they see how full flights are and make the appropriate sales

With the stop lights on Katella the freeways are still likely better, but yes LGB is close enough.

I too think October is a long ways out for sales - we are flying May 1st and booked a great sale mid February - I'd say around 3 months out start looking every day for flights and a sale will come.

If you can also like any airlines on Facebook or subscribe to their mailing lists then you might be alerted to any sales when they come up.

yea... take Lakewood north to the 91 east to the 5 south to disneyland drive, much quicker than surface streets :)

Another vote for JetBlue into LGB, such a small and easy to use airport, I travel a lot for work and really enjoy flying into and out of there.

Regarding when you book, the sweet spot for booking domestic air travel is generally 6 weeks or so out, and look starting Tuesday after 12pm until Thursday afternoon. That is when the fares are generally the lowest as airlines will be adjusting their rates based on occupancy and other airlines fares.

Hope this helps!

We are flying JetBlue SEA-LGB in April. Best prices I found were on JetBlue and Virgin into LAX. Chose JetBlue for better schedule and smaller/closer airport. I bought our tickets around Christmas and have only seen the price of my flights go up. I think it is always a guessing game as far as timing goes but I would wait for a few more months before purchasing. My 4 round trip tickets including taxes were $1074. We will just catch a taxi upon arrival. Flat rate from LGB to Disneyland is $45.

I fly from PDX to LGB/SNA often and it is too early to book your flight. As PP's have said wait until about 3 months out. Prices around $175 - 250 round trip are good, more than that is too much, particularly since you are going in October.

I just want to chime in and say, for Alaska, I often take advantage of the option to use miles to reduce the fare by 50%. Not sure how many miles you have, but you may be able to use fewer miles this way and still pay the same $$.

Also, I'd keep watching. I like to wait for tickets to drop below $100/way from sea or pdx. I also have flown into both SNA and LGB. I'd pick either based on whichever was cheaper and whether or not I wanted to use Disneyland Express for that trip.

Thanks for all the tips everyone, great suggestions. I'd have never thought about checking Virgin airlines either wow.

I have enough Alaska miles to do 50% free on one ticket. And the thing I like about Alaska (noot sure if all do it?) is they have a low price guarantee so if you buy on their website and the price lowers you can get a credit for the difference (voucher for future travel).

$100/way is probably the point to look for from the Northwest (sadly Seattle is cheaper than PDX, go figure). Look for SNA (Santa Ana), LGB (Long Beach), and LAX. LAX is about 30 minutes longer out each way, so be sure to factor in your time and what its worth there. Also add another 30 or so minutes if you're working with a shuttle from LAX because they stop at every terminal.

Alaska runs great deals--$99/ea way.
I wait for those and grab it when I can. A few months ago I got $79/ea way.

I would wait.
Fares will drop, they almost always do, esp from PNW to Anaheim. The ease of flying into OC is worth it. I would rather spend the extra few bucks to be so close to Disneyland.

I just got an email today from Alaska that would make fare from PDX to SNA $178.

You really should look into flying into Long Beach, it's a super easy airport and it's a flat $45 for a taxi and they have taxi vans if you have more then 4 people. We love flying into here from Seattle. I just looked at Alaska and Jet Blue and it was $210 to fly Alaska in October and $200 for Jet blue depending on what days you chose. Both airlines offer a low price guarentee so if your flight goes down in price they give you back the money to spend on a future flight.

If you are catching a taxi at LGB, do you have to call for it or are they just there?
