Hi,
We're just back from a week on Orlando with 4 days in WDW. Here's our experience in a nutshell:
The cast:
Me (just had a b-day in MK)
DD (age 7)
DD (age 10)
DH (wishing he had a b-day in WDW)
Advice/observations:
1. The weather was in the low 90s with about 80% humidity. Be prepared if you are going soon! Drink lots of water. I'll never understand why water is as expensive as soda.
2. Enjoy a Dole whip float in Adventureland. This was the favorite treat from the whole trip. So refreshing, and there's a nice shady spot to enjoy it. Also, the coldest drinking fountains were right in that shady spot.
3. Avoid MK at all costs on a Saturday. We opted for Epcot but went to MK for Spectromagic on Saturday night only to find Main Street packed to the gills. Someone said it had been packed all day.
4. It was my birthday on October 7 and I got a pin from City Hall to wear. I was treated like royalty all day. Most of the CMs wished me a happy b-day, and they gave me a free brownie at Casey's when I placed our lunch order. Later on, we had dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern and boy was it GREAT! Perhaps we were in the mood for a "home cooked" meal, but the food was wonderful. Great ham, roast beef, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, veggies, gravey, salad, awesome rolls with honey butter and a great salad! They brought a delicious frosted cupcake with a candle in it for dessert. They even let us bring our dessert (on their china) outside for the parade to enjoy on the porch. It was so special. Along with it came a card signed by Minnie and friends who were at the dinner. I'd highly recommend this place.
5. Very manageable crowds. We used fastpasses everywhere they were available if there was even a 10 min wait. Why wait at all, I say?? The longest line was 20 minutes for the cars in Tomorrowland. I will never do that again. It was a hot wait and my husband's car broke down on the track. The whole thing from start to finish took 45 minutes...a total waste of time. Most of the other rides were walk-ons.
6. DH and youngest DD tried Rock'n'Rollercoaster for the first time and loved it. These two are total chickens, but loved this ride. They were so proud of themselves.
6.5 We enjoyed Test Track for the first time. It was always broken when we were there 2 years ago. This time we enjoyed it twice using Fastpass. I would highly recommend Fastpass for this and any other ride where it is available.
7. We spent 2 days in Universal after doing Disney. I would recommend doing it in reverse order. It is a total letdown to go from Disney to Universal. The CMs were so unfriendly (some were nice, tho). I even found myself stating, "That person NEVER would be allowed to work for Disney" more than once. We did enjoy Islands of Adventure very much. Universal was kind of ho-hum.
8. We drove to Clearwater Beach on the last day, and enjoyed a lovely beach day at the Gulf. It was very relaxing.
9. I can't tell you all how magical WDW was. I always get teary when we enter the MK...and when we leave. Disney is a master of what they do. The people are wonderful, the grounds are beautiful and they make everyone feel special.
Have fun,
Tigger's Pal
