October 31, 2009

Wow, a lot of activity in the last few days since I checked.
Let me catch up.

Count us in on the meet and greet. I don't think I would be good to help arrange any of this since this is our first DCL cruise.

As for the button. lanyard and t-shirt ideas, her is what I think. Whatever is decided, I like the idea of people having them BEFORE the cruise. I just know that there will be some of us on our plane and also at the hotel. If we first get things distributed to us by someone after we get on the boat, we would have missed out on meeting people sooner. So because of that, if everyone could do their own button, I vote for that.

I also LOVE the lanyard idea. We are not castaway members so we won't be getting them, and having a way to hold onto our cards is a plus

T-shirt is so-so. Sure, it is cute, but it is a lot of planning, and you don't get to wear it that much.

Other ideas?? Hats?

We're looking at mailing out the lanyards about 2-3 weeks before our cruise date. That way everyone will have them before the cruise. I don't know about you guys, but as much as I want to meet all of you, I don't want to be sitting around the terminal or ship waiting for folks to come get the lanyards when they get a chance. I am anxious to play as soon as I get on that boat!!!!! :)

FYI ... I thought about hats, too, but I know that *I* won't wear one. The lanyards are easy to wear, non-intrusive, and something that will stand out for all of us.

Susan (Queenie) -

Since you were the very first person to post to this thread could you edit/update that very first post and put who the contacts are for the Cruise site, the Fish Extenders, the Lanyards and the Meet and Greet. I think this way as new people read about the cruise they will see the information and as Steve said, get less confused. I will also add it to the cruise website.

Thanks

YES!!!! We need to keep POST 1 on our thread up to date with info. Here's the one from my last cruise - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1874387 as an example. You can see how busy we were!!!! It was a big group, and there were a lot of fun things going on.

Kelly (Renysmom) -- I'm actually trying to use real names along with screen names so I am ready to meet and greet people on the cruise!!! Thanks for the suggestion. I already updated the contact information on page one. Check it out please and let me know what you think. GREAT suggestion, once again.

I am REALLY glad other people on this thread are taking the initiative to arrange other activities. I was hoping that I would have a STRONG group to sail with!!! I DO like the idea of having the lanyards and name tags BEFORE getting on the cruise ship. Ntheory, if you need any help, please let me know and I will be glad to assist you in anyway possible with the layards and name tags!!!!!!

Perfect. Thanks so much, Susan. I will use real names as much as possible. That's just the way I work. If I use the real names, my mind will automatically translate the screen names into those. Weird, I know, but .... that's just the way it goes with me.

It looks like we're building a strong group, and the closer the day gets, the more that will jump on here. If we keep this thread moving, it will stay on page one, too, and that will remind people to get on here if they are sailing with us.

I hope we can have a lot of activities and a LOT of fun together on this trip.

Susan - as we get closer to cruise day, let me know your dd's name (post or PM ... whichever you're comfortable with) so that I can mention it to my dd. I know that Jaydin (my dd) will LOVE having someone that she is familiar with to play with and hang out with.

Ok ....I'm off to the movies. Race to Witch Mountain comes out today!!! Can't wait to see it. I hope you guys have an AWESOME weekend!!!!!! :)

Just got back from the movie myself...what did you think?

It was good - not as good as the first two, but a good movie. It had a lot of blowing up, but no cussing. How often does that happen?! LOL!!! It was a nice thing to just watch Dewayne Johnson up there on the screen. :) What did you think?

Updated March 13, 2009 Welcome to any new, as well as old, comers!!! PM the following members on this site to be included and/or receive information about the following activities that have been planned so far:

Cruise site -- Renysmom or Queenie16

Fish Extenders Exchange -- Queenie 16

Lanyards -- ntheory

Meet and Greet -- knewton64

I keep browsing this board for someone to post that they will booked the October 31, 2009 Western Cruise. So, I decided to post and hope that someone, anyone, out there would be happy to meet up. We are very excited as this will be our first Disney cruise! We are confirmed in the Roy Disney suite. We hope to hear from someone soon!!!!

everyday and while on the Disney cruise ships....I jog 12 times around Deck 4 every morning cuz right now...I am nibbling on some Haagen-Daz Vanilla icecream with Hot Chocolate fudge!:cloud9:
A huge thank you for the responses so far about the Meet and Greet. To introduce myself more to all of you - well - it should be fairly easy to spot me a mile away. Why? the answer is easy....I love all things Disney. For example, I am even listening to Disney music while I am typing this posting. Moreover, (about my personality), FOUR guests even asked ME Guest Services type questions while I was onboard the Wonder during day one (Jan 2009) since they thought I worked for DCL :cool2: And....that's NOT the first time I have heard this :goodvibes .
AND a Guest Services person even refered me on over to their internal website for a job - and yes - I submitted my resume :yay: as I have 3 people looking out for any openings - be it at WDW or DCL since we have to contend with this economy of ours.....
So anywho....lets have some fun with this cruise :woohoo: and to all of you who wanna have some fun and meet new people and just enjoy all things Disney - give me a pm or just post your responses to this site per your suggestions of date, time and location for the initial Meet & Greet. I have some ideas but I wanna listen to you and see what YOU think.
Don't be shy cuz I don't bite! ;) After all, it's a Halloween cruise - right?

Ok....now back to nibbling on my Haagen-Dazs icecream.....

I thought it was good - a lot of action! I was surprised that my daughter liked it. I rented the original two before we went to see this one. I understand why my kids liked this one better. My kids are just not into that 70's thing. :happytv: I love watching Dewayne Johnson. Saw him in the Game Plan on the ...magic!!!! I think of that cruise evertime I see that movie!

If you have the DIY network, tomorrow at 7:00 pm there is a one hour special on Disney.. Rumor has it that it covers the dry dock of the Magic last October but the descriptor doesn't say anything except Disney

How old is your dd? My youngest didn't really care for it, but my (almost)13 yo son liked it pretty well. There was *definitely* a lot of action.

Thanks for the info!! I may try to TiVo that! :)

I heard that as well. I hope I remember to watch it. Thanks for the reminder.

DD is almost 12. I was surprised she liked it because she is not an action kind of girl. You are right...that movie started from the get-go with action!

... I just got done watching, "Beverly Hills Chihuahua"....funny movie. :rotfl: Love that George Lopez! And that brings up a good point.....makes ya "wonder" what movies are gonna be in the Disney theatre while we are on the Magic??

I was surprised how much we went to the movies. not that we were there everyday, but I thought movies on a cruise ship...who would have time? Having National Treasure 2 - during opening week was a nice surprise. Obviously they do not know now what is playing...I wonder how far in advance they will have an idea?

Hi all - I was just looking at the Calendar of Events for Key West when we are there and found this:

October 23 to November 1, 2009 - FANTASY FEST - 31st Annual Fantasy Fest - An outrageous, 10-day celebration featuring costume competitions, promenades, street fairs and a grand parade with marching groups and lavish floats. This year's theme: Villains, Vixens, and Vampires.

Not sure what it is all about (will have to post and ask Shirley, which I will do on the regular board) but thought I would share.

I just set my TiVo up to record it. :)

LOL! We like our action over here. My youngest, though, didn't like the loud noise.

I hope we have something good come out so that we can enjoy it for 'free' (i.e. already paid for) on the ship. I am watching the upcoming movie lists out there hoping something good will release that week.

****( Ok....the above does sound good to check out..and yes - keep in mind that this is Key West that we are going to - so it sounds like adults only if you wanna go to this). ****

.....hello one and all - just an update on the Meet and Greet. We have 6 stateroom cabins that have signed up so far :thumbsup2
Keep in mind that children are invited also and that it will be held at a reasonable time so don't worry about them being up late - just have them save up their sleep for "Pirate Night" as Mickey keeps late hours that night.
So feel free to pm me or make a posting on this site as lets have some fun during this cruise as lots will be going on up at the Beat Street area.:goodvibes

C-YA!

Kris

Ok ..... Add me to the list for the meet & greet. I'm not possitive we'll make it, but add me to the list, please. :)

Hmmmmmmm .... sounds like something I will need to miss, too. :)

Lanyards - Here's the deal *at the moment* .... In celebration of our Halloween cruise, our lanyards will be orange with black print.

If you are interested in getting lanyards for your group, I need you to PM me (please don't post it on the thread. It's too hard to keep up with that way.) I need to know ...

Screen name (of the person ordering the lanyards)

Number desired

Names for the name tags

Mailing address (for later)

If you want the zippered pocket or the regular name tag pocket (I'm quite sure that the pocketed ones will cost a bit more)

I will need a FINAL count NO LATER than August 1.

(Susan ... can you put the above stuff in the first post??? Please??? :) Thank you muchly!)

I am still looking into the price. It will depend on how many we order, but I'm really hoping to get this down to under $1 per lanyard plus the name tag holder and shipping for me to get it to you.

I will update this when I get more information.

Here is Shirley's answer to my question about the calendar of event I found

****

One of things that brings the crowds down into KW is that just about anything is a "go". Here is the website for it - it is NOT recommend for kids.
http://www.fantasyfest.net/

Me??? Wish they would go back to what it once was where it was all a family affair, but that will never happen again

I looked at the website and yea, its not for kids... Check this out: (Dont open if your kids read and are near you and the computer screen)

http://www.fantasyfest.net/sp_events.cfm

Looks like most of the events are at night based on the photo gallery I looked at (dont open around kids)..

Ok.. I just read this and now we need someone to volunteer to be our official timekeeper on the cruise...

"The Time Zone in Cozumel is CST-Central Standard Time (UTC/GMT-6 hours) during winter and CDT-Central Daylight Time during summer (UTC/GMT-5 hours)."

We will leave on Saturday on eastern standard time, then Sat night/Sun Morning the clocks will change back an hour for daylight savings time, then when we get to somewhere near Grand Caymans we end upon Central Daylights time that we stay on until sometime on our return when we re-enter eastern daylight time...

These are the things that will drive me batty and make me nervous about missing things. I wonder if I should bring 3 watches, one set for each time zone LOL

Ummmmmm ..... No thank you! I don't think those events are for me, either. :)

LOL!!!!!!! The good thing is that they remind us on the ship that the time is changing. We didn't have any issues last time .... but we didn't have time-change Sunday on the trip, either.

You guys, I'm getting SO excited about this trip!! We're going to have SUCH fun.

.....I set my daily wake up call using the alarm on my wrist wach....then set it on my radio alarm clock....then as a back up (hey..ya might have a power failure ya know)...I always have my "4-legged" alarm clock. She always gets me up  .....

Ok....Gotcha covered on this - went on a cruise yrs ago during this same time frame and I hear ya - it can be a pain to keep up on this but not to worry - I will be gently reminding people -
What I will be doing also is bringing an alarm clock - just in case since there are none in the staterooms and I want to be in control of the time - cuz I dont want to be late for my shore excursions either.:yay:
