Lynne - You can change electric companies? We only have one company...Florida Power and Light..if you don't pay yer bill...yer SOL..

Yeah, that's the way it used to be around here as well, and then about 1 1/2-2 years ago, there was some deregulation rules passed by the city council, and now we can choose. There are like 3 electric companies, and rumours of one more coming to Texas, can choose phone/long distance, I think there is only one gas though, and until very recently, only one cable - but the new cable is so new, I don't know of anyone who has it. The new cable is called: USDTV...only in a few states I think. Right now, they are doing a $19.95 a month sale to try and get people to switch. Their hook is that Comcast makes you pay for channels you never watch, and with USDTV, you can ala carte some stuff and only pay for the stuff you want. Comcast has had the monopoly for the longest time before that. Of course they paid the City of Dallas, lotsa kickback bucks TO BE the only allowed cable company.....
