We also got an email from our travel agent (Small World Vacations) telling us that DCL was offering an upgrade for a small fee; which we accepted & paid for and were then upgraded.

I booked through the DCL website and didn't get any emails from them :(. I did go ahead and call DCL to see if there were any upgrades available and she spoke to a supervisor who said that there were not. Oh well. Maybe it's just for you lucky people that booked through a TA.

Don't feel bad, I booked through DU and pretty much been emailing her all week and she never mentioned about an upgrade.

Hi guys,

I just wanted to let you know that we will not be sailing on these dates after all. I was holding out for the Florida resident discount, but it looks like DCL skipped over the October cruises and are only offering the discount for the following week (the November 1st cruise). I went ahead and booked that one because it was a big price difference for me.

Just wanted to let you know so that you can remove us from the FE list.

I hope you all have an excellent time! (I know you will!) pirate:

I'm so sorry you're not sailing with the Hallowonder cruisers but at least you're cruisin, and at a cheaper rate.

Have a great cruise

We're getting close!! :woohoo:

I absolutely cannot wait to be back on board the Wonder! Just curious what people, esp those of you sailing without kids, are doing for excursions. Last time I did the 4 night, we did Blackbeard's Cay which I really enjoyed. I am thinking of the Ardastra Gardens and Zoo this time, anyone have any input on that?

Welcome aboard Hektor, nice to meet you. Don't worry ask all the questions you want. Your english is just fine.

Welcome to the group Hektor & hansenherd!!

Welcome Hektor. We are a very friendly bunch around here, so we of course will try and answer any questions you may have. I've cruised Carnival, NCL and Disney and Disney is my favorite of the 3. I'm sure you guys will have a great time! What part of Germany are you from? I visited a few times when I was younger, and my DH lived there as a kid also.

Hope all is well with everyone!

Many thanks for your warm welcome. It's always nice to know a few people when you're travelling to a foreign country :goodvibes

As written: I'm Austrian, but I live now at the southwestern part of Germany near the french border - France ist just about 15 miles away, to the country of Luxemburg it's about 50 miles. There's also a huge US-airbase nearby you've maybe heard of - Ramstein. The next really big city is Frankfurt (about 100 miles away).

As written before, I'd like to ask a few question (not all about DCL, but maybe some of you know some answers anyway):

1. Can someone explain the "fish extender exchange" thing in a few easier to understand words? The part that I understand sounds funny, but if I try to translate terms like "fish extender" there's no translation that makes any sense. I'm also not really sure that I got the whole thing right. This would be very nice.

2. We're tryin' to figure out what shore excursion to do in Nassau. We've been to the Caribbean just once before and I liked the snorkeling tour we did very much (it's been my first time to do such a tour). Is this a good idea to do when in Nassau? I think it's not that beautiful there as it is in the Caribbean or am I totally wrong (the one tour we did has been at St. Lucia)? And the most important thing  What's the water temperature at the Bahamas compared to the Caribbean? Is it much colder?

3. We'd like to dine at least once at Palo. There's just one reservation slot open for this (for a party of 4): 8pm on day 2 (Nassau). Is there something "wrong" with this time slot we don't know about (because it's the last one that's available)?

4. One of the "little things" (but very important in my eyes when you try to plan your days [restaurant reservations - wer'e at WDW the week before]): At what time is the sunset in Florida at this time of year - I can't find any information about this?

5. Is there a "typical" dining rotation for adults without kids? We asked for the second seating.

6. Something completely different: We're flying from Vienna to Washington Dulles at the beginning of our vacation. Due to a change in our flight plans, we'll now have a more-than-seven-hours-stop in Washington. That's very long and we're thinking about what to do meanwhile. Maybe someone knows about this: Is it possible to do a city trip in this time frame? If yes: Any suggestions where to go? We just think it'll be a little bit boring to be at the airport for such a long time. And since we're from Europe and have never visited one of the huge american cities, it may be interesting for us just to have a look around. But we don't know if it's manageable in this time frame (especially if you do not have any ideas at all)?

Many thanks in advance for any question answered - I'd have even more questions, but I think that's more than enough for one time. I hope I didn't make to many mistakes writing this. :guilty:

Hi Hektor,

I know exactly where you live. I lived in Idar Oberstein for several years back in the late 90's. I can help an answer a few of your questions:

1. The fish extender information can be found either in some of the earlier pages of this thread. (There were links provided) Also, if you go to the main cruise page information can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions. Thread.

3. Nothing wrong with the Palo slot available. It's around the same time as a normal second seating meal. Fireworks are a bit later so you won't miss them

4. Sunrise and Sunset times can be found here: http://www.usno.navy.mil/USNO/astronomical-applications/data-services/rs-one-day-us/

6. Dulles is about 50km from Washington DC and with traffic I wouldn't try to go into the city since there isn't any rail between the two points. If you are interested in aviation there is a part of the Smithsonian Air and Space museum at the airport, here's the link http://www.nasm.si.edu/UdvarHazy/

Hope that helps. tschüss!

Outside of each stateroom, there is a decorative fish clamp. Disney staff uses these to leave notes & flyer's etc. at your room. Disney cruisers have started a tradition of hanging a pocketed wall hanging from that fish (thats what they call the fish extender). Each member of the group (or roll call, like this one) decide if they want to participate. If you want to join the fun, post your names, ages and cabin number to be added to the list (here in this thread). Once the cruise is closer we will all receive a copy of the list. When we board we will do a gift exchange, it will be up to you to decide what to give, how much, how many, when to give etc.

There are lots of threads with ideas for items to put in the "fish extender", some people make things, or bring items that represent their hometown, or make small bags of candy, stuff like that. Some crafty people make their actual "fish extender" and others buy them off Ebay (search fish extender or Mickey Wall hanging).

Here are some links to look through to get more ideas:

I'm not sure if my sister & friend who are sailing with us will ever register here and read these boards. Neither one of them have access to computers and don't really get online. Can they still be in the exchange even thought they are not DIS members?:confused3

If so here is their info again:

Crystal, DH, DD (8), DS (4) GTY cabin
Tacha & DD (14) GTY cabin

I will continue to try to get them to join here but as I mentioned before neither one of them go online.:eek:

Happy Labor Day guys. I hope all is well with everyone and the planning is coming along.

I just have one question will we all meet up as a group on the ship before we sail or will we just do the FE only? I see that we don't really have a very talkative group but can we just come together for a short period of time? I had planned on making a cute little personalized gift for the adults and possibly give it to you guys at our meeting but if we're only going to just pass out FE gifts to the kids please let me know in advance so I can plan and put all my time towards the kids.

If any one plans on meeting up for a group meet maybe we can schedule it at 3:00 pm on the promande deck or maybe by the goofy pool.

Just a thought please let me know how you feel about this

Hi Hektor,

I know exactly where you live. I lived in Idar Oberstein for several years back in the late 90's.

Yes, Idar Oberstein is about 40 miles away from where we live. What have you done there, if I'm allowed to ask?

1. The fish extender information can be found either in some of the earlier pages of this thread. (There were links provided) Also, if you go to the main cruise page information can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions. Thread.

Ok, now I know why it wasn't possible to translate FE to something that makes any sense in german. But I understood it right: How to do this "exchange" is just in behalf of the group doing the exchange?

3. Nothing wrong with the Palo slot available. It's around the same time as a normal second seating meal. Fireworks are a bit later so you won't miss them

That's fine. So we finally booked this time slot. I hope that Palo is really that special and is worth it. :rolleyes2: - and I hope that we don't have to skip AP for this - I'd like to see the "show" there...

4. Sunrise and Sunset times can be found here:

Great! That's exactly what I wanted to know. I especially wanted to be at sunset at the California Grill :goodvibes

6. Dulles is about 50km from Washington DC and with traffic I wouldn't try to go into the city since there isn't any rail between the two points.

Ok, that's not exactly what we hoped to hear - :-) - but I thought that it might be a little to far away. Maybe anyone else has any additional information about this...

But meanwhile ... many thanks for your answers. They have been very helpful. Tschüss.

Ok, I think now I understand the whole thing. Sounds funny (especially for someone from Europe, because every American "gift" is much more special for us than for someone from the US I think.). But we just have a guarantee cabin and haven't received our cabin numbers yet.

And how do we know tho whom we have to give a present? Is there a allowed maximum cost for the gift?

I think a meet at 3:00pm in the Promenade Lounge on Sunday is great. Even if only a few of us can make it, I would love to meet those of you that would be willing to go :).
