October 25, 2008 Halloween on the High Seas (2)

Yeah. We successfully booked a 2010 WB TA. We got a cat 6 for $5063.40 for two adults. I was so unbelievably lucky and was on hold for just shy of 10 minutes. Called at 5 am PST. DH and I made the final decision to book this particular cruise because of the cost. Baltic looked fabulous but way too much for this Disney family. This was our first experience with a booking frenzy. Sorry to hear of everyone's long waits and disconnects.

Spent day getting shopping around for pirate wear and found just what I needed. Its getting real now. Next are the door magnets. I hope I can figure out how to do it.

OM Goodness! It's so exciting as people start to leave!

Sarah, I'm really proud of you getting your costumes done! I'm now down to me and the DH.

Anielle - WHERE AND HOW are you shipping to the ship? Did I miss that somewhere along the way? Can anyone advise?

I didn't wait for the response on OTC stuff (it's such a bummer being a West Coast night owl, no one awake to play with), went ahead and ordered it. Hopefully it will come by Friday so I can assemble everything!

Suzie-do we need to bring TOT candy and such? Sorry, I can't remember! Will check the first page for details. Anything like that I will have to buy on Fri night in town, I'm not carting 10 lbs of candy on an airplane.

I got a confirm from Moby Dick tours for Stingray City-Mark seems very nice-he said they are running a special time to accomodate the Magic's schedule. Is anyone else going with them? My girls are very nervous about the 'sting' part in stingray, but I'm trying to assure them it will be fine. The problem is, I find them a bit intimidating too! So I will have to be super double extra brave and plunge right into the water.
Hi laurelk.

Wanted to say hi and tell you we are from Los Altos. Nice to see a couple of other west coasters on the cruise. We are flying the day before and staying overnight. Sounds like everyone is trying to get to port early. Our last cruise we were at the park first and didn't get over until 2ish which was way to late for my preferences.

I emailed them and 2 other tour operators this morning. I am s-o-o-o far behind on everything. I decided we would book with any that could "guarantee" to get us back to the boat well before all aboard.:thumbsup2 I am thrilled to hear they are running times to accomodate our less than ideal :sad2: shore time in Cayman. My girls are 10 and 8 and we are all wanting to go to stingray city. Hopefully we can be on the same tour with you guys. DH and I went 3 years ago and loved it!!

Jackie, do you know how jealous of you we all are right now? You and Sarah, that is!!!

I can't believe the time is coming! We've waited almost a year for this and finally get to see it all come to fruition!

Have a great day at the hairdresser! Relax and enjoy!

I can't wait to meet y'all and finally put names and faces all together (and some voices too!!).

Oh, and tell the boys you HAVE to take the laptop! I know, I know, we aren't but you have to keep in touch and tell us what's going on! Besides, Saturday is chat night! You CAN'T miss that!!!! :lmao: :lmao:

Back to our regular schedule (sorry, took off for a few days on this!!)

QOTD:

On the ship, they can put your family with others at your assigned seating for dinner (based on the size of your party, etc). Do you look forward to meeting these new people or really wish they had their own table?

If this were to happen to us (not sure because we have 6 people in our party) I'm always aprehensive at first but we've always found that our table mates are really nice and fun! So in a way, yes we do look forward to meeting new people.

Have a great day y'all!

Bon voyage you lucky lot, safe journey see you there. Wait for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!pirate: Andy and Helen

We are lucky because we know who we are sitting with - we are dining with Helen and Andy, Rachel and Bethany :woohoo: - there will be 10 at our table so I don't know if they will add any more people. It wouldn't worry me at all because I love meeting new people, but I would definitely feel sorry for the other people!

Just been shopping and the only suitcase I could find which was big enough looks like a cow :scared1: - honestly - it is a cow pattern and I will be very embarrassed with that on the ship! Still, needs must and I don't have a lot of time to shop around.

Jackie and family - have a magical holiday! See you on the ship!

QOTD: On our past 2 cruises we did not have any tablemates. I don't mind either way. If we do have tablemates, I would hope they put us with another family with kids that are similar ages but I don't know how they group people together.

Well my wife and I packed the girls (ages 6 & 3) yesterday. Haloween costumes(check), Pirate costumes(check). We're so excited :goodvibes ,flying out the day before and staying at the Orlando airport.

This is our second Disney Cruise. I was debating wearing a Haloween costume, but it sounds like alot of adults plan on dressing up too.

:welcome: Welcome to Bill, Keri & The girls!!! :welcome:
:jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:

Jackie - I'm so jealous you are leaving already.:woohoo: We don't go until the 23rd. But it is approaching very fast!!! :cool1: Hope you have safe travels and will hopefully get to see you on board.

Safe travels to you and your family too Sarah. In fact, safe travels for everyone!!!:flower3:

QOTD: We have never been seated with any other family on all the cruises we have been on. We always get a table for 4. In fact, not last cruise but the 2 before that we were seated at exactly the same table, #75. So last time we asked that if we were seated at that table, could we be moved. To get a different perspective of the dining room. Luckily, we were not at the same table. But, how weird is that to get the same table twice, back to back? :confused3 But it wouldn't bother us to be seated with others. We like to meet new people.

Only 5 more work days till we leave :dance3:

Have a great day y'all!

With DCL we have always had our own table for 4. Other cruises we have been with other families. Either way has certain advantages. We enjoy getting to know others when seated together. When seated alone as a family we sometimes feed the kids early, send them to kids club and make a date of dinner- just the DH and I. I will be happy either way.

I have missed sooo much... I am going to try to get it all in, but if I forget anyone... I sincerely apologize.... You can beat me once we board (I am easy) :lmao:

:yay: for Jackie and Sara who are leaving soon (or have left)... keep the parks warm for us (and wave as you fly over Massachusetts )

Suzie, your grandma looks great! :yay: for 90! WOW!
Sorry to hear about your dad. I hope everything works out well for him! :wizard:

Shosie, looks like you made it unscathed through your holidays! Hope you had a great time with your family!

Aneille, you are right - we did talk about that! I am brain fried these days... I can't tell my @$$ from my elbow... I need a vacation!

 Hi to the new folks from Cape Cod (sorry, cannot remember your screen name :headache: ) My step-mother grew up in Yarmouth... right off Myles Standish Way, can't remember the exact name of the street! I love the Cape! We drive through just for kicks once a month or so... We were also married in Barnstable...

QOTD - I can't remember it (remember brain fried).... Agh! I will just post this and go back to find it....

With 5 of us going, I'm not sure we would be seated with others. In fact, because of how outgoing DH and his parents are, I'm pretty sure if we sat with another family, the only person I would get to talk to at dinner would be DD! So, I'm hoping it's just us. Having said that, last time we went on DCL, it was just the 3 of us, and we sat with an absolutely fantastic family of 3, their DS was just a year older than our DD. We met up with them everywhere, it was incredible (we'd actually met up with them in line waiting for dinner, as well as at every single port we stopped at!). The kids played under the table every night with some toys and flashlights, the servers came by every night to watch them. They had a blast. We got the kids to pose with Princess Minnie before the end of the cruise, and that picture is framed in DD's room, and she still refers to the little boy as "my Joseph." So, it sure can end well! We still occasionally write to "her Joseph." Don't worry, though, it isn't too serious. DD's already decided that she's marrying a boy from daycare, and they're getting married in front of Cinderella's Castle, so this thing with the little boy from the cruise is just a friendship. :rotfl:

So, I'll be happy either way. In general, if someone is on the Disney boat, we already have some things in common,. and they're generally tolerant of my daughter being herself, so I have no complaints.

On our honeymoon in 2002, DCL sat us with 4 other honeymooning couples... We had fun! And have even remained friends with one of the couples (who we also cruised with in 2003 and 2006).

In 2004, DCL sat us with 4 other couples again, but it was weird... There was one really great couple... but two of the others were never around.... We basicaly went to eat and left....

In 2006, we went with that couple we met on our first cruise and we sat at a table for 8 but there was only 5 of us there each night....

Here is a pic (with our favorite waiter in the world, Fitz) from that 2006 DD:

This time, it is just two of us.... so who knows where we will end up sitting... we shall see! Wouldn't it be funny if we ended up with (or near) some of you? ;)

QUOTE]

We are a family of six and have never been placed with anyone else at dinner. I personally would not want to sit with strangers every night. Because then I would have to be worried about my children's behavior, Instead of enjoying my dinner. With 4 kids you never know what will happen.;) Plus one has ADD :hyper2: and NEVER stops talking!

1st cruise - 3 nights (w/2 neices 14y and 16y): we had a table with a childless couple (married 6 years), and a dating couple who had previously both worked at WDW as lifesavers along with their teacher-friend from Florida. Our first night, we sat down at the table for eight and it was just us, the others were all at Palo. It seemed weird all that empty space around us. The next two nights, the rest were there and we had a great time sharing the news of the day's shore excursions and getting the scoop on their opinions of various cruiselines.

2nd cruise - 4 nights (w/my sister, 2 neices 11y and 14y): We sat a table for eight and never had anyone with us. It was very sad; no one else's stories and always wondering if someone would show up. If they had seated us at a table for only the four of us, it might not have seemed like we were waiting for the others to arrive.

This time we have five, I hope they put a three-person family with us.
