Things to decide for Trick and treating
Ok we have 21 boys and 29 girls and 10 , 3 and under total 60 plus 35 adults to help out
This is a lot of children to be running around together

What day and time ? Monday, October 27, 2008 at 2 pm
a cut off date for signing up ? 5th September

Can I have your ideas on
Where to start and finish ?
Where to meet and leave all the treats ?
How many in each group ?
do we go by age group / boys and girls ?
How many clue stations to have ?

We can sort out who will be going with each group of kids and who will give out the clues and out the treat after the closing date
There is no dressing up for this but if you want to wear you Dis T Shirt That s OK
can't think of anything else to add just now

so what have I missed out

The one good thing about us having this discussion on this thread is that since we are all taking our kids out of school, so we're less likely to get someone pipe up with "I would never take my baby out of school and wreck his/her whole life for a vacation - how could you do that, you bad parents you!!!" :lmao: Of course that still might happen from someone with no kids or who's children are grown ! ;)

Hey guys - this is the one who is taking her kids out of school for 2 whole weeks - they'll miss 12 days of school :scared1: . Mine are in grades 4 and 6. Every now and then I remember how much homework the older one had in grade 4 and nearly get a bit nauseous myself, but then I remind myself it's early in the school year and we'll make it up. I'm going to e-mail the teachers next week and let them know when we'll be gone, but won't be taking much work with us - we'll play catch up when we get home. Adam has warned me already to not even mention a journal to his teacher - says that it's his vacation too! :rotfl: Will ask if there are things they could let us have that we could work on ahead of time, or if there is anything we definitely need to get done while we are gone - and do our best to get that done. To be honest, we fight with our two enough the rest of the year about doing homework, I don't want to be doing it on our vacation as well !

I am of the mind that I am the parent, and our vacation time is special. To be honest, we would never be able to afford to take a Disney Cruise in the summer or other off school times, and they do learn a lot from seeing other parts of the world. Do I remember what I learned in grade 7? No. Do I remember the trip I had to Disney with my aunt? You bet!! The other piece of this decision for us was that life is too short to not enjoy what you can - I've known too many people who've lost children, or children who've lost parents young (me being one of those), to not take opportunities to do things like this when we can. So bring on the cruise!! We'll deal with the homework after lol!

Valerie

(((hugs))) Valerie

I took mine out in the Fall of 2006 for two weeks in Hawaii! So mine would have been in 5th and 2nd grade.

They did have a lot of homework, but we did it and turned it in before they left.

I agree on the journal thing. The only work I want my kids to do on vacation is to cram as many great memories into their heads as possible.

Do you know, reading this just made me realize that this is likely the last time my son will trick or treat. I wonder if he'll even be open to dressing up?

You let me know what you need me to do and I'll do it!

I will be ordering the bags today since the list is closed. Once I order and get the amount, I'll post the amount and PM each donor on how to pay. As a reminder, here are the donors...

Are we passing out treats at each station or are we passing out clues to the next station and so on until the end where the treat bags are handed out? We have to keep in mind that we will need tables around us to stack up treats if we pass out things at each station. If we pass out treats at the end we only need to worry about one place that has tables.

We can either do by age group or we can do by cabin number so we keep siblings together. If we go by age, we should do the younger kids first due to their attention span. The main decision is break up siblings or not.

I know we were planning to follow closely the last TOT that several others went through last year. I was not on board then so I am not exactly familiar with what it was like.

I would love to either guide a group of kids or be at a station! Let me know what works out best!

Awww... thanks Jackie... Your too kind <what? no sarcastic smiley> :confused3

I hope I get both you and Amy for FE gift people.... you are both getting rotten bananas!

Been away for a month now...sorry. After 999 Happy Haunts (oops, posts), we arrive at number 1000. We know we've missed some ups and some downs, but we hope that today finds all well. Hard to believe we'll be at Sail Away 7 weeks from right now.

Max pluto: continues to do well. He seemed more relaxed last weekend, when we went to Penn Yan for the Labor Day weekend holiday. Took him to the Windmill again, a farm and craft market. Warm enough not to require his toastie coat, so people could get a real good look at him. The back yard at home has its fence, and more landscaping, making for a nice Max play area.

Christine is still working at home, and enjoying the company pluto: . Today, we're working in our joint home office, cleaning and clearing out clutter. Plan is to get it painted this week. It is the last unpainted room in the house. A good thing to do, as Hanna gives us a day of rain. Last count in our home gauge as of 2pm was 2-2.5 inches. But we did get lucky: got up before 0600, and had a nice long family walk before all the rain started.

I got to enjoy about a 3 week lull at the hospital, but things are busy again. Did get a nice surprise: I've been tabbed to attend the American Health System Pharmacists Mid-Year Clinical Meeting. Location? The Orlando Convention Center! My boss asked me to help find a less expensive hotel, airfare, and transfers. When asked to work on this, I was referred to as, "Mr Orlando". (at least from their perspective) Now, I need to find some places to eat near the Convention Center.

Too late to vote, but we'd be in favor of: 3 FE groups, and doing the group photo shoot ourselves. Now that the cruise is so close, I foresee us posting more.

Oh, one more bit of good news: our favorite Japanese restaurant has reopened! Not sure why, but they're back in the same location. Word was, the theater next door was expanding into their space.

Kayaking on the river tomorrow. At least, that was the word from the Outfitter/guide this afternoon. Wondering if all this rain might change that.

Told you we'd be back more! :lmao:

Had to empty the rain gauge around 5pm. 4 inches in it, and only holds 5. Max wasn't a happy camper when we went out then. Not too interested in doing his business.

Calling all experts: So, we decided to enjoy a beverage to reward ourselves for all the work done today. I put some light rum, ice, and strawberry mixer into the blender. Tasting quite good. Just the right amount of slushy ice remaining. Now, we're trying to think of what I just made: a daiquri? or a margerita?

We saw the sun poking through the clouds and rain about 20 minutes ago. But now, it looks the worst I've seen today to the west of us.

Oh, I forgot to mention something keeping us away: we renew our licenses at the end of the month. To do so means obtaining continuing education. So, we're reading exciting articles about incretin mimetics, tinea, and legal implications of generic substitution.

hey guys... i just thought of something... if we are going to do our own photo shoot we can decide when and where to do it before we go and I can put the place and time on the cards directly...

thoughts?

Good morning everyone!

6 weeks today we will be waking up for our first morning in Orlando!

Sean - great to have you, Christine and of course Max back! Sorry to hear about your rain - we have also had to put up with about 6 days of constant rain just now and even for the UK thats far too much for a person to tolerate! I think that drink sounds more like a daiquiri than a magarita - I think a margarita is tequila based. It sounds very nice!

Amy - very funny photo - who exactly is he dressing up as?

Photoshoot - I think we should do our own thing and get a cast member to press the button! As far as location and time go I am not too sure as I am a first-timer, I am sure the repeat cruisers will have a better idea as far as that is concerned. I am happy just to fit in with what is decided. :goodvibes

TOT:

These are my ideas, but having never done this before on a ship, some of you guys may well be a lot better equipped with ideas:

Where to start and finish ? - Not too sure on this one having never been on a ship before - is there somewhere that is likely to be fairly quiet at the time of our TOT

Where to meet and leave all the treats ? - At the finishing point I would imagine, just before the start of the TOT.

How many in each group ? Do you think we should divide the groups up into age groups and have the older ones (who will be quicker) starting first so they don't catch up with the younger ones. We could possibly have 10 groups of 5 and the under 3s would obviously have to stay with a parent anyway so they could just tag onto the group their parent is leading.

do we go by age group / boys and girls ? I would go by age group - so that they are on a similar level when thinking about the clues.

How many clue stations to have ? What about 10 - a nice round number and not so many that they would get bored.

Thoughts and comments please?

This seems like a good idea. We tossed around the idea of doing this on formal night - what do people think? We'd then just need to pick a time that is convenient for most of us. Our options would be before early dining - at about 5:00 to accomodate those who would have to eat by 5:30 - but that would mean those on late dining getting ready early. The other choice would be between dining times - which would be about 7:30 - an hour and a half after the last early seating, but a half hour before the first late seating. Do I have everyone confused yet  ? What time are the shows? Wait... okay, from what I can tell from reading old Navigators on line, the early shows start at 6:15 - so that cuts out a 7:00 photo op, but the late starts at 8:30 - so an 8:00 time should work well.

Okay - so here's what my rambling leads to...

Photo op would happen Monday, October 27th at 8:00 pm in the Atrium. We would all be in our formal attire - I'm guessing most of us clean up nice :rotfl:

THOUGHTS PLEASE!!!!!

The other choice would be to gather somewhere on Castaway Cay, which I think would be more complicated, either Halloween or Pirate night, or if we didn't want to bother with trying to fit it in between meal times, maybe after breakfast on Grand Cayman day when we're waiting to tender - but again, that could get complicated since the meeting times for some of the tours are way before we even get there!

(Scarey part is.. I often babble on like this face to face too :lmao: !!)

Okay dis buddies - for those who are still with me :rotfl2: what do you think??

Valerie

what about a photo at the Dis meet on the first day too

I think it could be quite busy in the Atrium at this time with everyone getting photos with the Charters
