I'm Jennifer. I'll be traveling with my husband, my 9 year old and my 3 year old (ages at the time). We have been on 5 cruises, but only one other Disney cruise before (Wonder). I've always wanted to do the 7 night cruise. October seemed to work out for us (Have to take dd out of school though; no other way around it). Probably won't be a WDW trip in 2007, but this is a good substitute. :)

Welcome Jennifer :wave2: We have taken our dd out of school for many, many family vacations (mainly Disney vacations in some form or another ;) ) and so far we have been lucky that all her teachers have been great about it! Hopefully it won't be a problem for you, just tell the teachers she is going on a cruise and will be exposed to different cultures and will meet people from all around the world. I will admit I am a little nervous about taking dd out of school for this cruise though because she will be in 8th grade at the time but I figure that is better than highschool and she did great this year when we wrer gone for the same week.

Cheryl,

Thanks for responding to my post.

We were looking at Paradise Beach. Did you go to Mr. Sanchos? I think that was the name of the beach club down in that area that had the "ice berg".

As for the transfers back to the airport, did you use the luggage service (i.e. where they take them on Friday night and you don't see them until you get home)? Or did you fly Midwest who doesn't participate in that? I was wondering how that worked out for you.

Do you know if that service can be used if we don't take the DCL buses? It would be great not having to take that with us.

It would be cheaper for us to get the Avis rental car than the transfers, but then again, the $30 we save would be wasted in having to go get the car, stop and get gas and then drop it off. Plus, if we can't do the luggage, we'd have to lug it from the rental car structure to the airline check in. Guess I'm starting to answer my own question on which way to go.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

We went to Paradise Beach and they had the "ice berg" there along with a big "water trampoline". Maybe a few of the beach clubs have the same eqipment due to "competition". I do remember passing sighns for Mr. Sanchos and San Francisco beaches along with Chankanab during our taxi ride to Paradise Beach. Rachel said the "ice berg" was hard to get onto and she actually never made it on it because ther is no "ladder" to help boost you up on it like the trampoline had and with it being wet and slippery she just couldn't get herself on it. She is a bit of a clutz like her mother lol. She really enjoyed the kayaks though and she and a friend actually went out on them twice and surprisingly they didn't tip either time.

We flew Midwest so we weren't able to take advantage of airport check-in at the Port. I'm not sure if the service can be used if you're not using DCL transfers.

In the past we did do the Avis rent a car the first cruise and it went OK, we just sent DH on the Avis shuttle to get the car and he came back and picked Rachel and I up, but it was still a bit of a hastle because of then having to get gas and drop the car off and lug the luggage from the parking structure at the airport. We also used one of the towncar services for after the cruise once but that made me nervous because they weren't there for us when they were supposed to be (only about 10 minutes late) and the driver we had hardly spoke a word of English so trying to communicate and make sure she knew we were going to the airport and which arline she should drop us off at was a bit stressful.
The 2 times we used the DCL transfers things seemed to go the smoothest. The porter just wisked us and our luggage to the propper bus, the bus driver put the luggage on the bus and took it off the bus and we just had to get it to the Midwest counter. Both times things went very smoothly! If we fly home the same day of the cruise return this is what we will do again but we are actually thinking of stayin over at WDW that Sat. night and returning home on Sun. next year so then we will probably rent a car from Avis but we won't be in a rush to catch a plane.
Good luck with your decision!

Today we will be at a family birthday party and I hope to find out that my niece, who just got engaged, will not ruin our palns for this cruise, lol. I am very excited for her and her engagement but she wants to get married next October, she is hoping for the first weekend but with starting the planning at a year out she wasn't sure she would be able to get the church and a place for the reception for that weekend. I could tell by my sisters voice when I told her we booked another cruise for next Oct. she is a little nervous about this. My niece is hoping to have the date picked and set by today so she can let everyone know. I just hope that if she can't get that first weekend in Oct. she tries for Sept. instead. I would hate to have to choose between the wedding and this cruise! DH and DD are already voting for the cruise because we already have it booked and we are travelling with friends but I know if we do that we will not be looked well upon by many of my family members. Hopefully we won't have to make that choice!!!

Welcome Jennifer and Family! Hopefully, you'll be cruising with us. :cheer2:

Lindy Loo hoo...I keep forgetting to ask. You were able to use the parking pass and the discount card? Sure hope so.

Gotta go...today is "Christmas Village" day at our house. Chuck puts up a beautiful village in the corner of our living room. If I find some decent pictures I'll post them here.

Take care all,
Nancy

I will not let Suz do anything Xmas until Thanksgiving day.

The only thing that will be done, and is never done before November, are the outside Christmas lights (and they are not turned on until the day AFTER Thanksgiving). I usually wait until the first warm weekend in November to put them up. (should have done it two weeks ago in October or stayed home earlier this week when it was actually warm. :sunny: Today it is cold :cold:, windy and there is a dusting of snow on the ground.) The way it looks, I will have to go up the metal ladder and freeze again this year.

Hi everyone!

I have a couple of questions. My TA has not given me any sort of confirmation number or anything yet. I sure hope to see a $1000 deposit on my Disney credit card, otherwise I know she never booked us! But, will the confirmation # I get from her be Disney's confirmation (reservation #) that I can book excursions, Palo's (75 days out), check on our cruise info, etc? And we are not doing land/sea but are planning to fly in the night before so we aren't pooped by the time we get to the port. Even thought the Hyatt is expensive, is that the most convenient place to stay? We most likely will not get into MCO until late that night.

TIA!! :sunny:

Abby,

Welcome.

The reservation numbers from DCL are 8 numbers long and all of mine have started with a 2 (not sure about everyone else). Yes, this would be the number you use to look at your reservation, book excursions and Palo ressies, and even do online check-in.

How long ago did you book with your TA? They should have that reservation number right away. When I have used a TA, both an on-line one and AAA, they have always given me a copy of the reservation and it was right from DCL on DCL letterhead. You may want to contact your TA and ask them for the number. If they haven't booked it yet, I would say call DCL directly and then transfer the reservation out. Forget about the current TA. AAA will give you $150 room credit for any room Cat 1-9.

I have not stayed at the Hyatt at the airport. Some people stay there and then take the buses, others rent a car or get a car service and stay at the port that night. The Radisson is very popular among DISers (never stayed there either). If you rent a car, Avis and Budget are your best bets.

Jeff

Your TA should be able to get you the number. I went through AAA and it was on the confirmation documentation.

Welcome Jennifer and family, Glad to have you.

Thanks for the info! I booked through a friend 3 weeks ago. I am getting ticked off though because I e-mailed her Thursday and asked her for at least a confirmation e-mail. She told me when I booked she would send this to me. I used to be a travel agent so did all of the legwork and basically handed her this reservation. Just trying to help her out and give her a commission. I assumed that she would not slack on this since I was in the business. But I'm not real pleased with how it's gone so far. If it turns out she didn't book it yet or didn't book when I gave her my credit card then I'll take my reservation elsewhere. Thanks again!

Steve,

I see your back posting.

We need to add "Konked Kruisers" to our cruise meets thread. I think you need to do that since you started the thread. Not positive though.

Jeff
