Thanks everyone for the Pooh Thanksgiving!!!!! I added it to our signature. Rachel has been spending more time here and I think posting more than I have, at this rate you guys will know my daughter better than me, lol. It has been a very busy week at work and by the time I get home at night and get dinner and the kitchen cleaned up I have not had much energy left. Tomorrow is my day off so I hope to get a chance to catch up on this thread then :wave2:

Cheryl did Rachel get the email Rosie sent? as am getting "Dad she thinks your as mad as a box of monkeys and i must be mad too" everyday on her return from school...... :sad2:

Chris I'm not sure if Rachel got Rosie's email. I am thinking maybe not because she didn't mention it but I will make sure to ask her when she calls me at work this afternoon after she gets home from school. If she didn't get it I'll have her pm you.

That would be great,it would be nice if she had a friend on-board before they go as the last twice we've been on DCL they've both struggled to make friends in the clubs due to them "talking funny"....Kids,dont you just love em?.... :rotfl2:

Chris Rachel won't think Rosie and Ryan "talk funny", my nieces husband is originally from Kent, England and his parents still live there but they do come to the States quite often to visit and we usually see them a few times a year. Rachel doesn't care how people talk, she just wants to have friends to hang out with :)

We interrupt this vacation planning thread for a brief history lesson about the St. Louis Arch...a failed attempt on the part of the McDonald's Corporation to create the world's largest golden arches. When the enginnering and architectural teams hired for the task were unable to create a double arch the company walked away from the project in disgust, leaving the iconic, single stainless steel arch looming over downtown St. Louis as a permanent monument to bad taste - literally and figuratively speaking.

It should be noted that in the interest of civic progress and generating tourism dollars the Regional Commerce and Growth Association has developed an "offficial" history of the arch that is much more bland than the truth. Here is a blip from the National Parks Service which today is in charge of keeping the arch polished to a high gleam:

Thomas Jefferson’s vision of the spread of freedom and democracy from “sea to shining sea” inspired Eero Saarinen’s masterpiece of modern design. The 630 foot stainless steel Gateway Arch reflects St. Louis’ role as the gateway to the West. The park is a memorial to Jefferson’s role in opening the West through the Louisiana Purchase, to the pioneers who helped shape the history of the American West, and to Dred Scott who sued for his freedom from slavery in the Old Courthouse.

Visitors to the Gateway Arch can tour the Museum of Westward Expansion, ride the tram to the top, and watch the movies Gateway to the West and Monument to the Dream.

The Arch, designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen, stands 630 feet (192 m) tall, and is 630 feet (192 m) at its widest point. It is the tallest habitable structure in St. Louis (taller than One Metropolitan Square, the tallest building), and the second tallest in Missouri (behind One Kansas City Place in Kansas City). . The cross-sections of its legs are equilateral triangles, narrowing from 54 feet (16.5 m) at the base to 17 feet (5.2 m) at the top. Each wall consists of a stainless steel skin covering reinforced concrete from ground level to 300 feet (91 m) or carbon steel and rebar from 300 feet (91 m) to the peak. The interior of the Arch is hollow and contains a unique transport system leading to an observation deck at the top. The interior of the Arch also contains two emergency stairwells in the event of a need to evacuate the Arch or if a problem develops with the tram system.

Near the top of the arch, a rider will exit the compartment and climb a slight grade to enter the arched observation area. Small windows, almost invisible from the ground, allow views across the Mississippi River and southern Illinois with its prominent Mississippian culture mounds to the east at Cahokia, and the City of Saint Louis and St. Louis County to the west beyond the City. On a clear day, one can see up to thirty miles (48 km).

Underneath the Arch is a visitor center, entered from a descending outdoor ramp starting at either base. Within the center is the Museum of Westward Expansion, exhibits on the history of the St. Louis riverfront, and tram loading and unloading areas. Tucker Theater, finished in 1968 and renovated 30 years later, has about 285 seats and shows a documentary (Monument to the Dream) on the Arch's construction. Odyssey Theater was completed in 1993 and has 255 seats. It was the first 70 mm film theater to be located on National Park Service grounds and operated by the NPS. It runs films from a rotating play list.

My work here is done. Please feel free to return to your cruise plans. :teeth:

Hi everyone I'm slowly wading through the pages of posts from the last week and a half in between trying to get some laundry and cleaning done around the house.

Jeff are you still looking for some info on Cozumel beaches? We went to Paradise Beach on the cruise 3 weeks ago. A large group of DIS families went and it was nice because the kids had friends to have fun with. It was a $5.00 (each way) per person taxi ride. There is an $8.00 charge for a wristband that allows you to use their snorkel gear, kyaks, floats, play on the water trampoline and climb the water "iceberg". We just bought the wristband for Rachel. A waiter set us up at lounge chairs with umbrellas and the only requirement was that we have something to eat and drink while we were there so no separate fee for the use of the chairs and umbrellas. I thought the prices were average for the food and drinks. Between the 3 of us we shared a pizza and a kids quesidilla and had 3 sodas and I think it cost us around $25.00 including the tip. I didn't feel the waiter was overly pushy at all. The beach area was clean and the bathrooms and changing area were very clean, some of the cleanest I've seen in Mexico. The snorkeling wasn't very good but it was pretty windy the day we were there and that always helps stir things up in fact some of the snorkeling excursions through Disney had been cancelled that day due to poor visibility.
This was the second time we used the DCL transfers to get us from the port back to the airport. Last time we were some of the first people off the ship, we got a porter to help us with our luggage and get through customs and we got right on a bus and it left for the airpoart within a few minutes. This time we got off the ship a little later, probably around 8:15 or so, it was more "crowded" this time and in fact we had to wait a little before they would let us down the escalators (only 5-10 minutes) because so many had gotten off already in the first rush of people off the ship. Agin we got a porter to help us with our luggage and he wisked us right through customs and again we were able to get right on a bus to the airport and it left within a few minutes. Not sure if things go this smoothly if you wait to be one of the last ones off the ship but things have always gone smoothly for us.
Hope some of this info helps any other questions just ask.

Linda,

I sent you a PM earlier today with the picture and the instructions I got from Nancy, via Brenda, via Jennifer.

Hope you get it to work.

Cheryl,

Thanks for responding to my post.

We were looking at Paradise Beach. Did you go to Mr. Sanchos? I think that was the name of the beach club down in that area that had the "ice berg".

As for the transfers back to the airport, did you use the luggage service (i.e. where they take them on Friday night and you don't see them until you get home)? Or did you fly Midwest who doesn't participate in that? I was wondering how that worked out for you.

Do you know if that service can be used if we don't take the DCL buses? It would be great not having to take that with us.

It would be cheaper for us to get the Avis rental car than the transfers, but then again, the $30 we save would be wasted in having to go get the car, stop and get gas and then drop it off. Plus, if we can't do the luggage, we'd have to lug it from the rental car structure to the airline check in. Guess I'm starting to answer my own question on which way to go.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jennifer,

Welcome to our crazy group. :grouphug: (I guess that would be how you'd do that with the smilies. Kinda like Jelly Bellies. Take two different flavors to make a third.)

Jeff
