This might be too late for you now, but we always pack a empty folding suitcase inside one of our suitcases because we know we will need more room coming home for STUFF that was purchased during our trip.

Then they wouldn't let me travel home with 3 anyway.
That's ok, I'll put anything extra in my boyfriend's luggage
