I'm off to work for a bit. (Auditors coming in two weeks:eek: ). I'll try to get something on Yahoo for us. Or....maybe Karen would like to work on that for me?? ;) Karen? Karen? I know you're out there.:lmao:

Sure Abby! We could list it on our Yahoo site so it's easy to add to.

I'll start here:

1) Try to eat at Parrot Cay on embarkation day. It's less crowded.

2) Use a brightly colored hair scrunchie to tie around the handle of your suitcase. It'll be easier to find on disembarkation day in the warehouse. (This idea won me a free DCL Passporter a few months ago).

3) Loved the idea of the cheapy pocket shoe hanger behind the bathroom door for toiletries.

4) Bring a bathroom deodorizer. For some reason the bathrooms in your cabin smell a little (no!! not that!!) and a "plug-in" really helps. Buy the one's with a built in night light.

5) Here's an idea I wish I would have followed on my first cruise. Pace yourselves with the Conked Coolers on Castaway Cay!!

Is this what you had in mind Abby??

Nancy-
EXACTLY! Thank you!!

Ok Karen, you can come out now!! :rotfl2: I set up a new Table in the Database on Yahoo named: "Abby's DCL Tips". Feel free to list all tips for Abby and all the other KK's on it.

Abby, that was a great idea. Glad you asked. I think we could all use a few good tips.

Good thing I'm only working with my DD today. YIKES!! Can I ever talk today!!

Anywho...what about our first DISmeet onboard? And, what about identifying ourselves in the Port? Should I set up a table in Yahoo for that too? I think the last we talked about it was on Post #3055, Pg 204.

Looks like Brenda is not the only Thread Killer.

Nancy, if you drop key lime pie on the floor I don't think you want to pick it up and eat it afterwards...yucko! Everything would stick to it and in order to eat all of the pie you would probably need to lick the floor or pavement (depending on where you are when you drop it). :lmao:

Our wedding yesterday was very nice. But there is this one old lady aunt in Jay's family who lives in the country and doesn't show up for much. When she does make an appearance she walks right up to you, thrusts her face in yours, and says, "Do you know who I am?"

Oh-my-god...do you people know how much restraint I had to use not to reply, "Do you know who you are?"

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

And then she sat behind us during the ceremony, which was mercifully brief, and proceeded to give the play-by-play to an even older aunt who doesn't speak at all, she just grunts.

And the reception...if this weren't a family thread...the things I could tell you about certain guests and their behaviour...shocking!! And no, I don't mean Jay and me - we only misbehave on vacation. ;)

Jeff - I think you misunderstood me. I was wondering if anyone knows the days the Palo brunch might be scheduled for. But thanks again for refreshing us on our excursion/Palo booking dates. As we get closer, it's more and more important!

Sorry about that.

Also, sorry if this has been answered already, I'm actually reading forward this morning and not backwards.

Palo should be open for sure on Monday and Thrusday, the sea days. Not sure about Sunday (we don't pull into KW until 12:30). I looked at the Navigators, but they don't list the time Palo is open any more, the old ones did. According to those, Palo is open for Brunch on Sunday as well.

If you plan on doing the character breakfast, you will want to plan a day that you most likely not have the CB. You have the CB the morning after you are in Animator's, except for the PLA (middle - 5:45, 8:15) rotation. For that, you will have it on Thursday.

Hope this is a better answer.

Is cruise weight difficult to lose?? On our last cruise we didn't gain anything. Chasing around a one year old on the ship was the key to that. Would anyone care to join me in the gym every day of the cruise to work off all those extra desserts I WILL be eating! Not to mention the coffees, drinks of the day, breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack....................... My stomach cannot wait until this cruise!! But my butt is screaming NO, DON'T EAT ALL THAT!

Abby,

One way to help is to take the stairs everywhere. It is a little extra exercise.

Timon?? Where are you???? Haven't seen Cass in a while. Come out, come out wherever you are....:dance3:

I was thinking the same thing myself. We haven't heard from her in quite a while. Hope all is o.k.

If someone explains what you all want then I'll have a go. :surfweb:
I'm no good at constructing tables/spreadsheets etc:scared: , but I can input once its up and running if thats any help?:confused3 - sorry I'm so useless....I only volunteered to be a mod cos you were one short:sad1: - sorry:sad1:

Ooooh , I should have read further down the page - I neednt have panicked after all!

Thanks Nancy.:thumbsup2

I've been selling more stuff on the Dibb, got another £100 worth so far this morning:cool1: - just got to package it all up now:eek: .

We've been packing ready for the move too. Photo albums, books etc...trouble is - you go to pack a photo album and you end up looking though it instead!:goodvibes

I would like to disagree with #1 if I could. If you have kids and are one of the first to board, head to the Mickey Pool and get a table up there. You can eat outside on a beautiful day (hopefully) and the kids can play in an empty Mickey Pool. One of the only times while on the cruise.

Just a thought:idea: .... but maybe people who want dinner tablemates could post which sitting they are on and who they are - ie 2 adults with a 6 year old and see if anyone wants to join them:confused3

Maybe theres a few dissers who dont like to ask but would like to pal up?:confused3

Just a thought cos I remember reading a while back someone who said they had no tablemates:sad1: . Maybe this could be a way of buddying up different families. Jeff and family are our buddies:goodvibes :goodvibes

Not trying to play matchmaker but it might help some people.:goodvibes

I'm going to sound like a germa-phobe, but I don't mind...

On our first cruise we did eat at a couple of buffets and by the end of the trip we were both sick with colds that ended up turning into sinus infections.

When we sailed in 2005 we decided that we weren't going to eat at any buffets - too many little hands and noses digging around in stuff (no offense meant, but we saw a lot of non-hygienic stuff from kids of all ages).

There's no proof that eating at the buffets is what caused us to get sick, but we felt that it was certainly an area of potential exposure that we could easily control. And we don't really like buffets all that much anyway, so it's not like we were making a sacrifice. ;)

I can tell you we both came home healthy in 2005 - well, except for my issues and since those are chronic problems they're never going anywhere.

Anyway, we actually ordered a fruit and cheese plate from DCL - a stateroom gift - for $24 and it was huge! We had a nice quite, private lunch in our room before going up to the pool where we enjoyed a cool drink and some sun before the disaster-at-sea drill.

This is probably an easier suggestion for cruisers without kids, but I just thought I'd throw it out there to give everyone a different perspective.

A few other tips: never touch the handrails on the staircases, use your elbows when touching the buttons in the elevators, and try not to take the elevators at all if you can avoid it.

Just call me Brenda "Howard Hughes" M. :rotfl2:

We've been on 4 cruises and never had a problem with sickness on the boat. (now I've just jynx'd us) We ate the buffets, touched the elevator buttons, and used the handrails. Just don't touch your eyes, mouth, etc. after touching commonly touched areas. The key is to make sure you wash your hands constantly.

If someone doesn't want the buffet, go to Pluto's Dog House for lunch. Can't beat those Chicken Fingers. :thumbsup2 They have Pizza on the other side of that stack by the Family pool - Pichnochio (sp?) Pizza. If you don't want to go up on deck for lunch (on days other than embarkment day), go to Lumiere's. We did that our first trip and it was really nice. You can also get sandwiches and fruit from the Scoops area by the Mickey Pool. The Panini's are great.

This all reminds me of something I saw on our last cruise. The kids club was coming back from I think lunch or dinner. Anyways, they had a CM at the back of the line with a tub of wipes, wiping every where one of the kids touched (walls, knobs, rails, etc.). I was impressed.

Jeff, are you implying that Jason and I don't practice good hygeine? :lmao:

All joking aside, you're right...wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands!!! But if you can get away with not touching stuff that helps too! ;)

And we all know that I'm a delicate flower with a suppressed immune system, so I'm going to get sick before anyone else... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Maybe I'm still buzzed from last night?

Paige... where are you? Did you watch our Plankton video? I thought your kids might get a laugh out of watching it but I didn't see a post from you.

BTW - I love the hot dogs from Plutos, and their fries are actually pretty good, too, especially dipped in mustard! :thumbsup2

I'm sitting here this afternoon, reading your threads on not getting sick and I'm suffering from a stinking cold!

Tips:

1. Highlighter
2. Hand sanitiser...just in case
3. Suitcases will fit under your bed, just lift the mattress
4. Extension lead for all those charges. There's never enough sockets in the cabins.
5. High factor sun cream....watch that caribbean sun
6. $1.00 notes for room service
7. Duck tape....always comes in handy
8. Chicken Tenders on deck 9
9. Some say Tiramisu and some say Chocolate Souffle is best in Palos
10. Exercise when you can....4 times round deck 4 is a mile and use the stairs...it's quicker than the elevators.

Can't think of any more at the moment...my head is a ball of mush.

Heather

PS - We've tried each time we've been, to get into Parrot Cay, on embarkation day, but never been lucky. Always ended up on deck 9.

Hope you feel better soon, Heather!

Those are great tips for Karen to add to the KK database, by the way! ;)

Brenda,

No, I wasn't implying you didn't wash your hands. Just saying that it is probably THE most important thing to do on any cruise ship. You know how those germs get passed around a small enclosed space. We actually take wipes or Purel with us onshore. Don't always have the means to wash your hands in some countries.

Pluto's is great for grilled type food.

Did they convert Scoops by the last time you sailed? I think the first time I got to enjoy the new set up was in Jan '06. I think they redid it when the Magic was in dry dock. Did you sail before or after that in '05?
