I have to admit, I'm a little nervous about booking for the 3rd week in October! Will the parks be Christmas break-like busy?

Not close at all -- while Epcot gets busy during F&W - especially the weekends, the rest of the parks are not anywhere near as crowded.

As others have said, we have been going to F & W Festival the past ten+ years and each year has been busier than the one before. It used to be glorious, but not so much anymore.
But no, it is not Christmas week busy

And most of the Gartner conference folks won't be in the parks much. If they bring family, they will, but it won't be dreadful. Just don't go in expecting whatever you think is "low crowds!"

I think people have differing definitions of low, and for many periods they are disappointed. Expect 20-30 minute wait times at many non-headline attractions, and if they do happen to be walk-on, be happy. Do not expect walk-on at the usual suspects ever.

Is the Gartner conference something they do every year? If so it is always around mid October?
