OCTOBER 2016 Car Rental Rate Watch Thread

I just booked a SUV one day rental with Alamo in TPA, returning to MCO, using the code AD4004JDK. That is a weekly coupon, but it booked it for me and took off $50 from the total. I have a rental total of $9.76. Will I have problems when I pick it up or return it? Will Alamo refuse to honor the price I got confirmed from their website?

WOW!! Thanks for the Alamo info. We only need a car for our arrival day for some off site shopping. Using the coupon code and the product code, I was able to get a mid sized SUV for $7.47 total for one day :worship:! Yes, I said SEVEN DOLLARS....and 47 cents :flower1:.

The $50 weekly coupon has a 5 day minimum rental period proviso

They are not obligated to honor obvious pricing mistakes.

I wouldn't dream of trying to pull it off YMMV, at the very least ,I would have a back up reservation if you're shot down.

Wahoo, Gina, with a Alamo/Costco Travel ressie, from a starting point of $342.65, and I don't know how many I've canceled, but this week, with codes and coupon, $214.01 (and I love one cent) for midsize for 12 days at Alamo. Hoping to get below $200, but so far, current price is okay. I think I remember last year, it was in August or so, that the rate dropped one day, that I ended up with that rate, as the time went on, higher and higher prices. October has Jersey Week, Columbus Day, Halloween, and events at MK and USO. Seems like a busy month, so rentals can be a dice shoot.

Yeah, I surprised you could use the coupon for a one day rental. While I know sometimes day rentals can be in the 10 to 20 dollar range, never with I coupon, I think. I tried using the $50 coupon for my 11 days in December and no go. Not honored at the Orlando local. Oh well, I will keep trying for both times. And coupons come and go. I usually check mousesavers too, as she usually has all the current codes for rentals in Orlando.

You can't. That's the point being made. Only earned National 1-2 free day coupons can be utilized for money off a one day rental. Hertz & Avis system is points based. Minimum rental length money off coupons is usually 3 days, with a Sat night overkeep and even those are usually only $20. Alamo has no such reward system in place. At all. Which makes it extremely likely you will be leaving the lot with a rental costing $7.00.

Add to that the coupon was a 2011 one long expired and is coded "50 off wkly (weekly)" one can surmise it was a glitch in Alamo's system somewhere; which happens from time to time with companies. Keep in mind car companies reserve the right to audit rentals at any time, and you can be charged after the fact. So even if you think you were successful upon returning the car, it doesn't mean much. I just received a $20 bill for a toll in New York, that took place in 2014. It's 2016, so it took Alamo over a year and a half to bill me.

Right Yellow, I was just commenting on the above posters that got those cheap 1 day Alamo rates. I guess in artful for not referencing the above posters who said they got the low 1 day rates. For me, I am looking at 12 and 11 day rentals, so I was happy that the coupon worked for one of them. Thanks

And I am surprised you got a bill from 2 years ago. I have used coupons and codes for years, and have never gotten a higher bill when returned the car or years after the fact. Tolls have nothing to do with final bill at rental car return when using a coupon or code you were entitled to use, and, so far, if the coupon was accepted, and I met its terms, no issue..

I know tolls have nothing to do with coupons, I was pointing out that the companies have the means to back charge you. Of which that coupon is a obvious mistake for a one day rental.

I know of a lady who was actually charged a higher rate when returning the car. She used a code for a company and the attendant demanded proof when she returned the car, even though she had left the lot with no questions on pick-up. She couldn't produce anything as she didn't work for said company and was subsequently charged the daily rate instead. It happens.

Right too Yellow, as I never book with a company code I don't have. One thing I like about having a Costco card. And I always check to see if the coupon needs to be presented, as I am always ready for that too. I guess I have never been surprised when returning a car, and making sure I pay for tolls. I keep all receipts and take pictures too.

I will be happy for those 1 day renters, if they really do get the rates they said above. And I agree with ya, don't use a code or company or any discount without being entitled to it.

I was able to get a 1-day rental from Port Canaveral to the Car Care Center on Oct 22. Used the AP code and AS1. Total is $25.89. Since I have an AP, I know that is valid. Upthread, someone mentioned AS1 is an Alamo code, so I shouldn't have any issues? This comes out cheaper than taking taking the Disney bus back to the world (2 of us), but is there any potential issue with my rate?

on the prior, page 4, Dan says the AS1 is an Alamo Insider code. So as long as you are an Alamo Insider, I would think you are good.

Just a little tidbit of information; you can combine both the Costco contract rate with the coupons mentioned in the original post for Alamo. When you click on discounts, simply enter the Costco contract #7016405 under contract and the coupon # AD4004JDK under coupon and there you go! Costco prices + $50 off weekly rental + 1 free additional driver! We just booked for September for 8 days for about $139 for a full size car.

just a heads up: that contract code comes up Costco Canada. 7014627 ("Costco web offers 09") and 7015309 ('Costco Members") are not country specific & provide same/similar rates). :)

Thanks for the codes! We are in Canada and the Costco code comes up as Canadian so it actually works out well for us. I'm going to check some prices next week after the weekend to see if I can get a similar rate to what I already have. I would love the additional driver free.

Yes, it's a Canadian code! Sorry everyone, it completely slipped my mind. :)

Where it says member number, I put in my Insiders number, but it comes up wrong format. What am I doing wrong? Do they want my Cosco member number?
Never mind. Figured it out. Got a full size from Alamo for Oct 1 - 8 for 126.00 I am happy with that. Used Coupon code: AD4004JDK and Cosco 7014627

Loving this post. Just saved $200 from the cheapest rate I had found on my own. Have a mini van for 13 days for $340!
