October 2013 - Car Rental

Change to Budget where the spouse is included free. Their rates on carrentalsavers.com are down for Oct right now, maybe not as good as your Dollar rate but better maybe if you have to pay $10+/day for an additional driver with Dollar.[/QUOTE
Dollar also makes you fill up at least 10 miles from MCO.

Doesn't Dollar also charge your for the sunpass daily even if you don't use it?

I can't use budget due to their location of the downtown disney car rental facility

It has been about a year (October, 2013) since we rented from Dollar at MCO but we were not charged for the sunpass on that trip or any prior that we used Dollar. Hopefully that hasn't changed.

Thanks for reminding me of this! I have read about that here. I know we filled up last year at the Boardwalk without issue but will be sure to fill up closer to the airport next month in order to avoid any problems.

I am sorry but I am not following this. Where do you want to pick up a car? Are you trying to rent at Downtown Disney? Because Budget has an location at both Orlando and Sanford airports, if that is what you need (or so their website says).

We have always filled up at the Hess across from DTD. I am assuming there are places along the Greeneway but before you get the too-near-the-airport prices? We always seem to be on the Greeneway at night and I have never paid the slightest attention to my surroundings! Will definitely keep receipt, thanks. Definitely looking Dollar is going to be cheapest for us.

There is a few along the way on the Greeneway. Good price..

How long ago? I used Dollar in May & they didn't ask to see my receipt. I usually fill up at the Hess just before you get on 417.

2) Gas refueling--do it on your own and do it as far away from the airport as you can (Do know, Dollar requires you to fill up within 10 miles of the airport and have a receipt to prove it).

Guess you got lucky

Others have mentioned this as well and I have read about it here before but had forgotten until you mentioned it.

I wonder if it is a random type thing? Although it is clearly stated on my rental reservation:

11. Customers who do not purchase our refueling option must refill the vehicle within a 10 mile radius of the rental return facility and present a fuel receipt to avoid refueling charges.

Probably best to fill up closer to the airport just to be sure.

Budget has a location at DoubleTree Suites by Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort (location M03) near Downtown Disney. You can take a Disney bus from any of the Disney resorts to Downtown Disney. Get off at the Marketplace stop, then walk across the street and up Hotel Plaza Blvd to Doubletree Guest Suites. Its about a mile. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Downtown Disney, which should cost around $5.

1 mike is too far to walk for us with little ones, and a taxi sounds like a hassle after riding a bus from our resort. We need to pick up on Disney property, and drop off at MCO.

From what I found with some Google-ing, your insurance company could refuse to pay a claim because the contract with the rental company is voided if you violate the rental terms by allowing a non-authorized driver to operate the vehicle.

From Peter Greenberg, on AARP's website:

Thanks for the tips. I checked with my insurance agent. We're covered. We'll only have the car 2 days....if my husband can't drive it would only be in an emergency situation. I'd get the go ahead from dollar otherwise. :)

Could you and the little ones hang out at DTD while your husband gets the car and picks you up afterward? Just an idea. :)

There is an Alamo/National at the Dolphin, we have used that one before and had good luck. Very easy to get to!

That's not a bad idea. In fact, hubby is a runner so he'd prob love the chance to get an extra mile in on vaca. I'll look at prices and see if it works out. Thanks!!
