October 2013 Advice

My family (2 families) are planning a trip to WDW in October 2013 and know which week we want to go. Hoping to stay at POFQ with Free Dining. I have seen lots of posts here from people who already have a ressie and change it to FD when the offer is released.

What do you recommned, booking rooms(2) with no discount, or a package now? Wait for a room only discount?

I know there is no guarantee that there will be FD offered next year for the week we plan to go (it is this year) but want to be sure that we can stay at POFQ if FD is offered. I have noticed posts by people that there were very few rooms available POFQ when FD dates were released.

Last trip was 2009 and we booked FD about 3.5 months in advance.

In my opinion, the only reason to book a no discount package now is if you're not flexible on your dates and hotel and are willing to pay full price in the event that a discount is not offered. There's no advantage to already being booked when the discount is offered. The room will or won't be available either way.

I agree with the pp to book now only if you are going regardless of whether or not a discount comes out. Disney releases discounts to fill rooms, so if a resort is at or near capacity, Disney will see no need to offer a discount on that particular resort. Booking now in hopes of a discount later is not a good idea, IMO, because that will be one less room Disney needs to fill. With that said, if free dining or a room discount does come out, there would have to be availability at that resort in order to get the discount. Having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied and sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort in order to take advantage of a discount. HTH .
