Over here in the UK October is a VERY popular time to visit WDW. On our last trip in 2010 out of the 15 pupils in DD's class 6 were going to WDW.
In Scotland our schools are out from around Oct 6th until Oct 23rd, in England and Wales they break up from around the 13th.
Virgin Atlantic also used to put on extra 747 aircraft in October to cope with the demand from Scotland.

This is the first time our kids will get Fall break and it is only for 2 days.

My son's Lutheran school gets two days off while the teachers are in a conference, the third week in Oct. Seems to be a popular time for "fall break" We'll take the kids out and go to WDW this week, that way kids only miss 3 days of school instead of 5.

Any chance you are from Indiana? My kids Lutheran school has the same break for the same reason except we are going the next week!

I'm in AL too and I just found out that they cancelled our Fall break due to the new requirements. As a matter of fact, they took a lot of our breaks away. Kinda makes me feel better about them missing some school though because otherwise they don't get much time off, however; without the two days off for Fall break, I now have to refigure our trip and decide just how many days I am okay with them actually missing.

Yes...we LOVE year round schools. Our breaks are first 3 in October, then we get the standard 2 weeks at Christmas PLUS our 3 weeks, then 3 weeks in April, then the county closes all year round schools for the first week in July and our track gets the other 3 weeks in July. It is great. We are really hoping that we can swing going to Disney this year. This will be our last year round scheduled year. My son will go to high school in Sept 2013 so we will switch our daughter going to 6th grade to the standard traditional schedule. High schools all follow traditional schedule...no year round.

I read a different thread and saw that some people were getting postcards with pins for free dining for dates in the fall. We are interested in room discounts only. Has anyone gotten a postcard with a room discount for the fall?

As far as I know, the room discount PINs went out a while ago. Mine came in February and advertised for stays in May, but it was actually good for the whole year. I have not heard of any recent room only PINs being released, but their should be something released for the general public within the 4-6 weeks.

The free dining pins postcards had only fall dates on them. I think that they just went out, if I'm reading correctly.

We booked our hotel for the fall with a bounceback offer. I am looking for a general public room only discount for my friend, as she and her husband are coming with us on our trip in the fall and they need a room.

The general public discounts for fall typically come out the last week of July/ first week of Aug. The GP discounts have been coming out earlier this year than in years past. From mid-July onward, I would be keeping a look out for them. It usually gets leaked here before it goes public, so keep an eye on this thread and hopefully your friend will get something. Though, if travelling the middle two weeks in Oct., there might not be any discounts available. They are typically blacked out for FD and room offers. What are the dates? If you don't mind me asking, of course.
