October 2011 Code Watch

Smitch, that makes a lot of sense. AND... I sure hope it's right. I know all the rumors about disney no longer giving discounts but I just don't see it. They overprice things intentionally so when they give a discount people feel like they got a deal, when in fact, it's still way overpriced. I think the discounts are just a great marketing tool that disney won't stop. Look at all the buzz this board alone gets about discounts? There will be something, what who knows but I'm confident there will be something.

I'm going discount or not but of course offer me a deal and I'll be over the moon. In the end I can bet I spend the same discount or not. If they give me something I'd be more likely to spend more in the park because I'll feel like "we'll.... I was going to be spending this anyway, lol". But I'll be happy if they offer something!!

Yup. Now we can all refocus & hope for something this Monday!!

Oh, & I've asked but in the excitement, never got an answer. I've never been this invested in waiting, watching for an offer.
But, does Disney generally announce & offer on the same day? Or is there news the day before & then the codes are released the next day for booking?

If it's all in one day, I need to be setting my alarm clock for the mornings, lol! :lmao:

I think I'm going to start trying to get a cancelation for an AKV (Value Studio), BWV Studio or OKW Studio. Even purchasing a few additional points from DVC at $15 a point I come out within a hundred of paying rack rate for a Value resort.

I just checked on DVC rentals because you have a great point there, but the only thing available is SSR and a few at OKW. You mentioned OKW so that would be great for you, but reservations are filling up fast....just wanted to let you know :cool1:

I think I'll be calling Member Services at 9... and if nothing is open, I'll be calling at 9 tomorrow and the next day, etc.

Ok so I know that announcment was not about a discount but I still wanted to know what it was and I don't see anything. :(

Hi everyone. Let me introduce myself, I'm the Dad from Dad's Guide to WDW.

First let me say I'm sorry if I got anyone's hopes up. (I just found this thread this morning or I would have said something earlier.) My little announcement thing is like a lot of what I write, news wrapped in tongue in cheek humor. For my site this announcement is a big deal, but sadly it has nothing to do with Disney discounts.

I hope I haven't caused anyone any problems.

How is it hard to understand this. last year Disney said they were weening discounts and now that they are holding true to their words you find it hard to believe? Over the last however long I've expressed in this very thread
that you are all in denial that its just not going to happen and you still are...
I hope a miracle happens cause i need a discount too but i dont
think this miracle is going to occur...I have one last breath holding that it does but I pulled the trigger and booked the rack rate room cause
contractary to what you say of there being "plenty" of availability (love how people exxagerate so much) there really isnt crap left part of the second, all
of the 3rd and 4th week of October....So dont get peoples hopes up by saying this....Ya theres plenty if you goto a value resort, yuck...and The Grand Floridian club level , but theres no regular rooms at Beach Club, No Yacht Club, Animal Kingdom or Boardwalk, so if there is any discount realeased its prob NOT going to include deluxes. they dont need to fill these
during this time period.

I too, have a hard time understanding why they wouldn't need to offer something for the later months of this year. With all the discounts they've offered plus offering FD thru the end of Sept., 2011 in 2010. You can't tell me the resorts are full for Oct., Nov. or Dec. yet. Maybe for the holiday weeks but I see plenty of resort & ADR ressies available for those months.
I think they're just feeling out these Game On pins which, some may be decent but most are crap! I got one for 10%. I'm not even positive it is 10%, I think my math was off. We're staying at ASMu in a Family Suite for 8 days, 7 nights & got just under $200 off. :rotfl:

I was really hoping free dining would be extended thru Oct. but I don't think it's gonna happen. I looked thru my posts from last year and it was on 7/6 last year that the free dining extension was announced. Seeing how it's now 7/17, it's not looking too good. :sad1:

My apologies if this has already been mentioned, I haven't read through the whole thread yet. But, isn't it possible, with October being the 40th anniversary of the opening of Magic Kingdom, that fewer discounts will be released because rooms will be full anyway and were booked a year ago? There are plenty of people who will be determined to be there no matter what. There's a D23 event at WDW in mid-October isn't there?

I have to agree with beachclub, the deluxe resorts have very limited availability at least for my dates mid-October. I think if you are looking for a deluxe room best to book now if what you want is still available.

I do think there is a chance that we might see FD offered to fill the value and mod resorts since the restaurants have a lot of availability during that time period other than your normally booked places, such as the coveted character meals such as CRT, CM and 'Ohana, Le Cellier etc.

No need for apologies in my opinion. Everyone is hoping there will be a discount of some type and so your news was exciting to us (thinking it was a Disney release). None of us are worse off than before. Thanks for coming on here and explaining though. Still excited to see what news you do have!!

Thank you!

It's hurtful to claim everyone is "in denial"... we are just hopeful and keeping positive. Maybe you should start a "Don't Bother Code Watching Because You Are in Denial" thread and post there instead. There's no place for outright rudeness and negativity here when some people can't even afford their vacation without a discount or want to/have to stay in a value. Let's try to keep good and happy thoughts. I hope you are wrong and there is a discount so everyone can go on the vacation of their dreams!!! :cloud9:

According to Mousesavers historical information, there was a substantial discount offered EVERY DAY in 2011 except Easter week. Common sense dictates that the weaning period would not start during what Disney considers a "slower" season... After Value 1 and Value 2 seasons, Fall season is next. I'm not in denial; it's simply reasonable and rational to think that there has to be a discount coming up soon for Fall season.

I would have to agree. I don't think I'm in denial, I have a plan B in place in case a code doesn't come...but I'm hopeful something does come so we can spend our time on Disney property. If a code comes up for a value or moderate, then we will try to stay there. I personally don't care where we stay because we literally only sleep in the room. Negativity is really not necessary. People will do what they have to do, but there is no law against being hopeful, and assuming we are all adults here, I think we can handle things if there isn't a discount.

Great post... the comment about "a value resort, yuck" is what bothered me the most. I could afford to stay anywhere on property, but I prefer to stay at a value because...

1. We are at the parks from morning to night-- why pay more for something you just need to sleep in?

2. I could stay in fancy hotels anywhere in the country, but the only hotel that I can pass by an enormous Baloo and Mowgli on the way to breakfast is POP, so that's where I choose to stay.

Some people stay at values because of necessity, and others stay there because it's their preference. I see nothing "yuck" about either of those reasons.

3rd Week October 15th - 21st
AKL - Nothing available
BCR - Club level only
BWI - Club level only
CR - Not available
GF - Lagoon and Theme Park available along with CL
Poly - All types available
WL - All types available
YCR - Not available

4th Week October 22nd - 28th
AKL - All room types available
BCR - Standard, Garden, Water all available
BWI - Standard or Water, Standard, Deluxe or Water if Club Level
CR - Not available
GF - Club level only outer building
Poly - Garden, Lagoon, or Theme Park view available
WL - All types available
YCR - Water or Pool View Available

I'll give you that the third week is getting slim with really only GF, Poly, and WL readily available. The fourth week really only CR is not available and GF club level only. Other than that it's pretty open. People have stated that the third week in October is a big conference that takes up a lot of the resorts, especially the Epcot resorts you seem so fond of, but there are places to stay if you really want to go.

WDW is a happy place, as should be and generally is the DIS Boards. Let's keep the pessimism to ourselves as WDW is all about dreams and optimism. If a discount doesn't come out it doesn't come out, but it's ok to believe and hope. After all, without hope and believing, WDW wouldn't be the magical place it is.

I just made my reservatin at CBR at rack. I wanted to go to AKL the week of the 15th(if I could get a discount) but it looks booked so I went with CBR the next week. If discounts come out, I can still try to upgrade to AKL the week of the 22nd. Now off to make flight and other res.

Still hoping discounts or FD comes out, but we are going either way!:)
