it just doesn't make any sense to me that they wouldn't offer SOMETHING the months of Oct- early Dec. I have received some sort of discount for every month so far this year. This is weird. We have never NOT received some special offer in October. Strange. We are all booked and it would be a bonus at this point, im just hoping for something to ease the pain.

We are all looking at probably the worst case sanerio here. The normal Fall release historical release time has come and gone.
I keep checking for October rooms as I am about to pull the trigger on booking a rack rate as I need to secure a room cause I already have plane tickets.
As I am checking what seems daily all that is available are value rooms, some moderate rooms and barely no deluxe rooms. Yacht, beach and Boardwalk are mostly taken by Gartner the 3rd week, and I know its a popular F&W area to stay so we dont need to rehash this conclusion. With all this limited availability why would they bother releasing October discounts...Plus, as I did, a few months ago they had a long bouncback offer that was for a couple weeks in october. so that probably helped fill the rooms....
And as I have been saying all along, Disney is keeping to their guns by weening us off the discounts, everyone here seems to be in denial about this happening though even as its happening and smacking us in the face....

The "normal" date for fall discounts is anywhere from July 5th, to mid August. Last year it was especially early, early July. But before last year, it was much later.

And out of curiousity, I played around with some dates in mid-October. There was plenty of availabily at the Polynesian, Beach Club, Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom. Most room categories were available at most deluxe resorts. Contemporary was booked up (probably conventions). But otherwise, the deluxes were pretty wide open.

Disney absolutely is trying to wean the public off discounts. But I doubt they will be filling up without discounts. I think they have 2 factors to contend with: The economy is still slow. And second, the Fantasy Land expansion will be a great draw in the fall of 2012.... but may also cause people considering trips now, to hold off for another year.
Thus, I would not be surprised to see discounts eliminated or dramatically cut back in the fall of 2012. But for now, unless they choose to eliminate discounts just to prove to customers that they are serious--- and take a temporary hit in their booking rates--- I suspect discounts are coming within the next few weeks.

In 2010 Free Dining was first announced July 6th, historically early. It was announced again for October thru December on August 16th along with a gift card offer and also room only discounts.

In 2009 room discounts came out July 27th along with package discounts.

Not sure when you have plane tickets, but Oct 21-27 is pretty much open for the deluxes except CR is booked and GF has club level only. I didn't bother to check the mods since you said deluxes there were hardly any rooms available.

Keep hoping people.

Ugh.....I have been getting PINs off and on for 3 or 4 years and NEVER used them because something else(GP usually) was our better choice or it was for a timeframe we were NOT going. Now that we are planning our first Oct trip....nothing...nada...zippo....I would be happy for ANYTHING. I have never gone during a free dining period but of course now that we are planning a trip during a more typical free dining period,,,,,we get nothing. Sigh....so disappointing. Sure hope something materializes before middle of August. Would be just as happy with a 30% off of moderate as this is also our first trip to a moderate.

I created a set of maps but with my luck I'll wind up getting a PIN code that won't work for us... We are DVC AP so we'll probably get one only good with rooms, tickets and dining. Or a free upgrade to hopper passes... My kind of luck.

I'm as freaked out as all of you guys are... but I think we need to just breathe! Keep positive!

I would be totally shocked, and dare I say offended, if there wasn't, at the very least, a good room discount offered for October.

There are literally discounts offered for every day 1/01/11 through 10/01/11 with the exception of some blockouts that are mostly major holidays.

According to the Touring Plans crowd calendar there are crowd levels of 6-9 for August, yet there are great discounts (25%-35% off) being offered for that time period. October is mostly a 1-3 crowd level!

I think we just need to keep in mind that we have until mid-August to truly give up hope. I'm here every morning with my fingers crossed and heart pounding, only to be disappointed. But I have a VERY hard time believing that October will be the beginning the "wean". The economy is still in the toilet and that is considered a slower season. There are times that make much more sense to begin the discount weaning... the time around winter and spring break come to mind.

I think we all need to put our brave faces on until mid-August. Just my two cents and YMMV.

I switched today from BLT to BC and basically I could have had any resort I wanted. I asked about any offers coming out and she said they usually don't know until the day of

I guess we'll just have to wait it out and if it's meant to be it will happen. But I totally agree, the waiting sucks.

It all depends on your dates I think. It seems availability can vary greatly depending on if you are traveling weekend to weekend or mid-week like I am.

I go to the site every morning to check the special offers just in case Disney decided to surprise us with a new offer. I also check then to see what is available for my dates and what I am seeing is no availability for CR, limited availability at the BC/YC/BC only CL availability, WL any but Standard and GF and Poly still have GV(cheapest catagory).
BLT and the other Villas seem to have some availability too .
No idea about Mods or Values as I have not checked them.

My concern about Disney releasing an offer for Oct is that by the time they do whether it is for FD or a room discount, the rooms available for the offers will be the higher priced catagories which in the case of FD can be a tough pill to swallow since you have to pay rack rate bringing down your overall savings, especially with the addition of having to buy the photo book now.

Same concern with a room discount, if only the more costly rooms are available under the discount promo, how much will anyone really be saving? Sure it looks good on paper and your getting a better room view or perhaps CL but in the end your still spending more than you might have had they released a promo sooner and the cheaper catagories of room had been included in the promo.

I don't know if it's been reported to anyone here yet, but I received a PIN code for a special room only rate on value resorts. It was $67 for a value resort for 10/10-11/18. Only applicable on Sunday - Thursday nights.

I called on Friday to see if I had any discounts attached to my name or address...unfortunately there weren't any. I asked if there were any discounts coming out anytime soon. The CM reply was "We are being told the end of July." Then she chuckled and said.."with Disney, you never know".

So fingers crossed and wishing for some Pixie Dust!!

If I book a room for our desired dates and then a FD promo comes out, can it be applied retro-actively? I am wondering if I should book SOMETHING so we have it.... Although October is not usually super busy....
