October 2011 Car Rental Rates

I have a midsize reserved at Alamo for a total of $132 for 9 days beginning the 25th. I don't consider a Toyota Corolla 'midsize' but Alamo does... lol

I agree, I think they are generous in their descriptions at times.

I always ask DH when we book... do you think we'll be okay with the rollerskate this trip or shall I upgrade us to the skateboard? He knows exactly what I mean from the descriptions too, lol :rotfl:

I still can't beat the $252 I have for Budget intermediate SUV for our dates 10/14-10/22. We could do a full size no problem and problem even an intermediate but they are all more than the Budget rate yet. I really would prefer national or alamo....and I keep checking everyday. I have NEVER paid more than $160 for a weeklong rental out of MCO so I am not happy with the rates!

Yeah, it kills me to see rates of $62/week (compact) for September right now, insane! I know October is always higher than September but I am truly hoping for some last minute deals to bring it down some.

When we were down in May we paid $87.87 for an 8 day rental for Fullsize with Alamo. They had all minivans and SUV's in the row and we took a Ford Escape. So yeah, it kills me to be paying more than 3x that much for October :scared1:

I really hope we see some downward movement now that we are in September.

The rates will come down.

Earlier this week my 9-day reservation was $172 for a compact. I booked that in January. Since January, the rate has been in the high $200/ low $300range. This week I was able to reduce it on Monday to $152. The next day I was able to reduce it to $136. The following day I was able to upgrade to a midsize for $132. Today I reduced that to $111. All fees and taxes included. I have been renting cars in Orlando during this same time period for the past 7 years. $111 is the lowest save for a 10 day rental in 2007 for $131 for a compact. Budget and Alamo used to price out within a few dollars of one another, but over the last 3 or 4 years, Alamo has been consistently less expensive for us.

Which codes are you using? I have been using the insiders codes and the VISA codes and neither of them are budging on Alamo for over a month now (I am at about $300 all in for a midsize). I am hoping to see movement soon, but I am getting impatient, LOL.

I enter my insiders number and I use the Costco Corporate ID of 7015309 and I use the insiders $40 off code. I think the $40 off code is for rentals that begin on or prior to September 26, 2011. Costco has a $30 off code of AD8221SDF.

Also... my numbers haven't budged at all since February until this weekend. Patience, my dear, patience!!

Yes, killing me too! I still have faith the rates will come down tho...so far, at least. ;)

using the insiders corp id 7014667 (which hadn't been working up to now -supposed to expire in sept)

hoping national will fall just a bit more, if not will keep monitoring alamo & decide day prior to trip.

Keep up the good work! I'm following behind you, but the rates I'm seeing are too high right now. I got something reserved, but nothing to brag about (yet)! My dates are 10/15-29 (2 week rental )

WOW!!! I used these codes and it was over $550 for 1 week 10/8 - 10/15. I can't seem to find ANY deals since it's over Columbus Day.

Nice, I got that same Alamo coupon too and hope I gets extended.

What was the code? I haven't seen it in my inbox yet.

Sorry, the code was a one-and-done... It was a "thank you" for being such a good repeat customer :lmao: which is really funny considering I've only had that Emerald account a little over a year. My husband has a company account that we use when we travel together- this one is only when I'm going solo, which isn't often.

I'm finding that since our trip isn't over a weekend (Sunday through Friday) that I'm getting the higher rates...

Our dates are 10/22-10/28 and the lowest I've found so far is about $232. We're at BWV and going mostly for F&W so for $232 I will skip the rental.
However I was able to get a 3 day rental from 10/25-10/28 - pick up at Dollar in DTD and Drop at MCo for about $107. DD has to go back to school on 10/25, so that will give us a car to take her to the airport and also one to return us to the airport so we don't have get up really early for ME on our departure date of 10/28.

Watching both time periods and hoping for less.

Last year DH had a rental 9/6-9/11 for 70.80
But in Oct we ended with a three day DTD 10/13-10/16 for 99.49, the a one day 10/17-10/18 DTD - MCO for 33.90

Let's all keep our fingers crossed for lower rate
Anne

Hi all.

I have been reading cautiously for quite some time now and taking all the great advise you all give. I wanted to tell you all that I went online yesterday to Dollar Rental and they had some sort of a link that you could click on to see weekly specials in "your area" .. I clicked on the area and low and behold ...

for a Ford Escape Suv or similar .. which i believe is their small or midsize suv's .. from Oct 7th @ 5pm = Oct 17th @ 10am ... unlimited miles ... picking up at Norfolk Airport ... I got it for $249 with taxes and charges....

Isnt that wonderful? I think so. I mean, Ive paid $250 at MCO for a 7 day economy size car. Perhaps you all should check out the Dollar website. I did not have any special codes to plug in .. and I was told that they no longer participate with AAA so that could not help me any. But I personally am happy with this price.

Good luck folks

I'm still looking for a good deal for MCO over Columbus day weekend. Right now I have a midsize at Alamo, pick up Fri 10/7 at 11pm, drop off Tuesday 10/11 at 4pm. With VISA member code and free day "thank you" from Alamo, the rate is $218. That just plain stinks but I will continue to look and keep trying Priceline... so far, no luck there. I am hoping that as time grows closer, the rates will drop. Unfortunately the Alamo "thank you" is a one-shot deal; I cannot use it to check for cheaper rates via other membership ID numbers or different-sized cars while I still have a ressie with the number on it. I am afraid that if I cancel this ressie, I won;t be able to use the "thank you" code and it'll be lost!

 ur kidding! It has to be ur arrival or drop off times messing things up. for giggles i priced out 7 day rental beginning @ 11 am on 10/8, mid size & quote was $285xx:confused3.

Try again, even if u make the res pickup an hour later;) if it's substantially cheaper, you'll still be able to pick up your car.

make sure to input ur insiders # and avoid the :30 rental times.:wizard:

Thanks for checking:goodvibes I wanted to pick up at MCO and drop off at the Dolphin and it was over $492. When I returned to MCO I was getting $281. It's crazy!! We actually want a car for 2 weeks so if other companies come out with better deals, we won't have to drop off at the Dolphin and we'll do MCO - MCO.

We're similar time frame (day later due to work schedules) but we're at Wilderness Lodge, and my mom wants to do EVERYTHING and everywhere, and I don't want to be on the buses for hours at a time. :lmao:
