October 2011 Car Rental Rates

I just booked a Budget Premium car from Sept 1 - 5th for $128.40 using the link/code posted on the previous page. Thank you to the OP for sharing and I really am surprised how inexpensive it was! I selected the option to pay at the counter and wonder if I should have paid it now just to really secure that rate? Any advice on the best way to do this is appreciated - this is our first rental car during a WDW trip - looking forward to not waiting around for busses! :cool1:

I've never done the pay in advance option incase of flight delays/cancellations etc. Just print out your confirmation with the rate and the correct dates/times etc and you should be fine. I've never had any trouble with rates that I had confirmed in advance.

Thanks for the budget code!!! :cool1:

We got an intermediate SUV booked from Oct 15-24 for $291 including taxes. Not a bad price considering alamo rates were over $400 when I started looking, but still hoping for lower. :goodvibes

using Alamo insiders code for 20% off and the entertainment book $30 off for a week. I picked up a full size car at Sanford for Oct 8-15 for $97 including taxes

Funny...but extreme. Let's all hope there are some decent deals as our times get closer. I just got home this weekend, but I'm always planning the next trip. Only 8 weeks between trips this time. I'm watching for an October rental for 15th @ 10:30AM to 10/29 @ noon. I would like to get something booked soon. I've always found October rentals to be some of the highest prices and lets not throw a hurricane in, then the rental prices really go up as their fleet drops from folks renting one way cars to drive themselves home. :grouphug:

Please someone convince me to wait ... Hotwire has a full size for our Oct 6-13 trip for $186.14 total w/taxes. Our May trip I booked Hotwire thinking it was a good rate but found out later I could've done better. I currently have an Alamo at $292 so this HW rate is really appealing but being final, no refunds. I've been trying several codes from Bj's, Insiders, AARP and not gotten any better.

Has anyone seen anything better lately?

I would wait till your 10 days out. I myself have been tempted also. Like you said once you book it through those sites it's locked in.

nope, not for your dates (over columbus day weekend) and if it's an 8 day vs 7 day res. The extra day does tend to bump up the price.

does hotwire guarantee no shuttle is involved?

are all fees included?

If so, i'd book it. We visit often during that time period. Last year the best rate i could get for my 8 day trip beginning on sunday 10/3 was $180 for a full size w/national.

Best i have this year w/them is $266 & i'm pondering whether to go w/one on Dollar i booked via a citi special (no code initially inputted) in area of $200.

That's all in, taxes, etc. I don't think there is any shuttles for the ones Hotwire uses, is there? I know Hertz is now in the garage; we used them last May. I know Budget is out for our dates. They have blacked out the coupon codes due to Columbus Day. I don't think it's a bad deal. It is an 8 day rental (7 days + 2 hours).

Oops, just checked again, it's gone up to $194.

i priced my dates out on HW got $194 too

I checked their site says: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz & National

Priceline has offsite ones for the non-bidding type, not sure re the name your own price though.

I was curious because my dates are almost exactly the same as yours (10/5-12). I checked hotwire this morning & the rate for a standard or mid size was $186. Now it's $276.89 for the standard. Probably should have just booked that $186 rate. Oh well. Guess I'm sticking with my Hertz $209 rate unless something better comes along as we get closer.

Hmmm hotwire has in terminal compact for our dates for $149/inclusive which is better than the $182. reservation we currently have at budget. We still have more than a month to go though so I'm going to wait a bit I think. maybe? lol

Our dates are 10/3-7 which are week days so we can't use many coupon codes

I wonder if it makes any difference whether you check during the week or on a weekend (sort like the airlines, Tue is best for SW). I don't recall anyone ever mentioning. Maybe they go up on Fri afternoons and through the weekend.

Thanks for the budget code. I just booked an intermediate suv. I also used a costco 30.00 off coupon code. It didn't come off at reservation, I will have to call and find out.

I've used Budget once with a coupon. It should say on your rez coupon then they deduct the coupon when you return the vehicle. I had no problems with having to remind them or anything. They were great. Great vehicle as well.

Going to Disney 10/8-10/15 (8 day rental). Includes Columbus Day weekend, so I am running into blackouts on some coupons/deals. Just now tried Priceline. Minivan bid for $230 was rejected. My bid for full size $12 per day ($170.92 total with all fees/taxes) was just accepted with Avis. If I spend the next few weeks checking many times daily I figure perhaps maybe I could save a few more bucks (or not). My cheapest rental booked months ago was $225 for full size with Dollar. Hotwire locked in rate was $194.

Anyone used Avis at MCO before?

Hi-
I haven't used Avis at MCO, sorry, but we will be at WDW 10/7-10/11 and although we are onsite and could use DME, DH isn't the biggest WDW fan and I am afraid the busses will make him crazy, so am looking for a car. I haven't used Priceline for cars before. If they don't take my bid, do I rebid with changes (more money, lower category), like for airfare or hotels, or can I just do a straight out rebid. Priceline might be the way to go, with the vendor coupons blacked out for the weekend...
Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Priceline only allows one bid per 24 hours per car class/airport. If your bid is declined, you can change car classes and rebid immediately. I tried bidding on minivan, but offer was rejected, so I tried full size (with different bid). The reservation once accepted is charged to your credit card and is noncancellable, so be sure of your dates/ rental times. They use only major car rental companies (Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, Budget and Alamo). I have used Priceline 4 times for car rentals and have never had a problem.

I sometimes have had the same bid rejected only to be accepted weeks later. Guess it depends on inventory of car rental companies.

I wanted a minivan, but with a family of four, cannot justify the price to have an extra suitcase. I can rent 2 full size cars for less than 1 minivan! I will send one suitcase to hotel via Fedex. Will cost me less than $20 more than putting it on the plane round trip and saves me $200 from renting a minivan.
