October 2011 Car Rental Rates

Was playing around with rates again, this time on Alamo, and got this message:

Our apologies...

Alamo is completely sold out of vehicles at:

Orlando Intl Arpt from 10/15/2011 to 10/24/2011

Sold out

I've never in all my years renting cars, have ever seen this message. Guess that's why I can't find any great deals..LOL

Found a link on Budget's website for a special rate of $129/week for compact...$149/week for intermediate SUV. I booked the compact and added a free upgrade coupon code from our BJ's membership.

https://www.budget.com/budgetWeb/html/en/deals/wendie.html?&ICID=HP_MB_WKN_wendie81122

It's not phenomenal but it's a good deal better than all the other rates i've been finding for my dates. Hope it helps someone else!
Thanks. Used that link and got a Ford Escape for $208 from 10/16-10/23 renting at Sanford. And, my dh (who has the cc in his name) is the primary driver and since I'm his spouse I get to be an addtl for free...at least according to their website.
Does anyone know if there is anything special needed for that booking?? I didn't see anything...but don't want any surprises. I am the rapid-res member the reservation is in dh's name.

I've seen it often when using different corp id's. All sites don't honor every code/promo and everything is capacity controlled. Good likelihood if you price out your trip without a corp id or code you'll find availability, then work from there. good luck

Looks like your trying to use a code that has reached it's maximum like keisha said.

Ah, yes, you guys are right, availability is there with no code applied. Phew, thank you, heart attack avoided!

This link was right on their main page so I don't think anything special is needed for it. I didn't notice about the spouse being free, was that just as sanford? I always put it in my DH name but it would be nice if I could run out to grab milk etc without dragging the whole family along.

We're going for 5 days in Oct and need a car (for US and for an Orlando wedding). I have seen a lot of mentions of discounts for 1-week rentals. Any tips for a shorter period? I've tried princeline name-your-own without any luck. We need a deal.

We are going for 5 days in Oct also but for us the rates are better for the weekly rate than the daily rate. Our days do not fall over a weekend though. If yours is over a weekend, I'd try Enterprise and see if there is a location close to your hotel that will pick you up. I know in Tampa area and also here at home, they often have tremendous weekend only rates. Good luck

Yep, I did find it. I have to wonder if it's a RapidRez issue....when I made my reservation using my RapidRez number, it gave info that spouse's did not have to pay the addtl driver fee. But, if I reserved a car without that RapidRez, that info wasn't offered. Hmmmmmm.

Good to know, thanks for testing that for me. I have to check if we ever signed up for rapidrez, we flip flop on car rental companies based on prices so I can never remember which ones we signed up for and which ones we didn't, LOL

We arrive on a Sunday and leave on a Thursday. We only really need the car for Sunday and Tuesday.

Are you saying you booked a weekly rental to save money and will just return it early? Is that allowed? Would this all be cheaper if we got a car at the WDW rental center and dropped it off there? That sounds like a lot of wasted time and our schedule is tight.

From what I've read on here you will suffer extra charges if you return a vehicle before the drop off date. Reason rental companies do this is to prevent this scenario from occurring where a weekly rate is cheaper.

I actually signed my dh up for RapidRez...gave all his info. And then made a new reservation in his name. That confirmation now shows that the spouse gets free addtl status. Now, there should be no issues at all. Thanks again for posting that fare....so glad I saw it.

No, some rental companies consider 5 to 7 days a week. It was better for me to go with budget since they applied the weekly rate to my 5 day res vs other car rental companies that charge a daily rate for 5 days.

Was there any fee to sign up? If not, I think I will do the same :) and yvw :thumbsup2

:cool1: Thanks for posting this. We had a res at Budget for around $300 for a small SUV and now we have and interm. SUV for $210. Wonderful!

Nope...just had to wait for him to come home to get his license and cc info. Now, we both have RapidRez numbers!!!

Ahhh yes I will need to wait until mine comes home too for that info, lol

I will definitely do it so I can run out for little things if need be. Sending him to the grocery store always costs triple ;)

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into budget
