October 2008 code watch

Can you say WOOO HOO.I don't need to wait for a code anymore, I got a PIN in the mail today and saved $300!!! WOOO HOOO!! That makes up for all the character meals I scheduled yesterday and MNSSHP tickets if we like. We might skip that.

We too are going in October and purchased the trip through AAA. The
travel agent said the final payment is due in August. Now if there is
a public code released can I still get the discount if I made the final payment?
The travel agent said she would try if one came out before the final payment
but I am not sure if this applies after I payed in full? Anyone know?
We saved around $200 for the week at All Star Movies with the DDP and
park hopper tickets. It covered the trip insurance.

LuckyBoy, we've also booked through AAA and our last payment is also due in August....
Also, we saved about $400 booking through AAA for this trip. When I first purchased AAA, we wanted to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel. If I was making a regular reservations, rooms were $225 per night. With AAA it was $150, plus we got money off our park tickets. We spent the $50 on AAA and we've been enjoying membership perks ever since. Also, you get 10% off at Payless....That's the tax and a little more off what you're spending!

Yes I agree AAA payed for itself and then some. I am hoping for another
discount like a general code and then have this come down even more.
We are staying at All Star movies from Oct 14-21 and can't wait!!

I noticed that you have stayed at both POP and ASmo and your going back to ASmo. Do you prefer ASmo over POP? Curious if you could give me some feedback? Thanks!

We liked ALL Star Movies better for the kids mainly because of the
theme. The kids did not understand the theme at Pop since they are
young but really liked the Dalmations, Toy Story Icons at Movies. We
also had to walk farther it seemed at Pop but a preferred room would have
solved that. Also Movies was our first trip as a family and it had such
special memories maybe that was it. Anyhow they are both great but
will stick with Movies for now for us.

Hi, Add me to the list. We are going mid-Oct. We are already set for SSR for 4 nights done deal, but am looking to tack on 3 or 4 more nights someplace else.
Watching for codes. NEVER receive ANY via email or snail, so hoping for a miracle. :-)

10 Kyle 10- You are going the second time in October in a row. We
have never been there in October. Any advice? How is the MNSSHP?
At first I thought we would go but then I thought the kids would not
stay up till midnight anyway and the extra money for a few hours is hard
to justify. How are the crowds the week of Columbus day? Any tips
from anyone would be appreciated!!

Sadly im going to strike out with answering most of your questions. First October is great. Ive been during all times and I would have to say this is my fav time to go (sorry thats a lie, if you havent gone during the holidays its a must...but trust me once is enough). There is plenty of halloween decoration up so you wont feel left out and still get the vibe.
The weather is great, still hot at times very hot so you can take advantage of the pools or water parks.
MNSSHP, I havent been, but we are going. I havent heard anythign but great things so I figure we are on vacation so why not spew alittle more money and enjoy something that you cant do every year. We are a mid 20's couple so we are use to some pretty late nights so the time wont be an issue for us but I can understand why you would have some questions are the money with children. My only suggest with that situation is if you do plan on going take the whole day off and let the kids swim and relax around the resorts then go to the party at night.
Last year we went the week of the eighth and it wasnt that bad at all. We had expected less crowds then there really were, so please expect the unexpected. October is getting popular as more and more school districts are planning fall breaks (where were they when I was in school?) I know there are schools on break the week columbus day so just go to the parks with a plan of attack. Dont worry the crowds wont be anything like summer or the holidays, just expect to wait 20-1hr+ for all rides...NONE will be walk ons.
Anything else just feel free to ask...

Just wanted to add my thoughts on October for you. My DH and I love october, mainly because of the FWF at Epcot but also because the crowds are not terrible and the weather is just right (althought for our Honeymoon at the end of October, the nights did get rather cool.)

As for the MNSSHP.... I did it in 02 when I worked there and it was WONDERFUL! All the "extras" for adults like the palm readers, ghost stories, face paintings, psychics... they were all great and of course the parade and fireworks were the highlights. However we did it in 06 for our Honeymoon and I was VERY disappointed. Granted, we went on Halloween proper so the crowds were awful :scared1: . We asked a CM for the best views of the fireworks and they told us to be at the back of the castle.... WRONG! We missed 90% of the show and my DH was so disappointed. It seemed to me to be ONLY geared toward the little ones and the fun things i rememebered like the palm readers, ect.... were not there. Or at least, I couldn't find them!

The parade, however, did not disappoint. Maybe if you are not going on the 31st it will be better for you but for us, until we have kids, we won't be doing the MNNSHP again. HTH!

Thanks for the info 10 Kyle 10 and Disney Doll. I have heard mixed reviews
on the MNSSHP and seems like most are saying it is not as good as before
for whatever reason. I would still love to try it but and leaning to waiting
for another time since the kids are rarely up past 9pm. We already
bought tickets for the parks every day we are there so I do not know if
we could get a refund on 1 day if we wanted to go. I just have to say
that I love the Dis boards and you guys have a wealth of information
and thanks for sharing!!!

Also we have gone in May which we really loved and the temps seem like
they are similair-is this true? We never encounter rain at the World the
2 separate weeks we were there which is amazing too.

Subscribing! :) We are currently booked at the CR with a bounceback rate of $289/night.... October 22nd for six nights... but if a really great AP rate comes out we'd be willing to switch to another resort. ;) Part of me is really itching to do the GF again. It's been a few years. Then another part of me is dying to do the BC again. We had a blast there a couple of weeks ago.

Good luck to everyone!! :thumbsup2
