Been reading a lot on best/worst times of year. We (using Magical Gathering software - count currently with 4 families and 15 people) are going October 9-16, 2004. The Monday of this timeframe is Columbus Day. Does anyone know how this holiday/timeframe is? Luckily we are there before the big PGA tournament. Any input on this timing would be a great help!

Thanks! :sunny:

We attended the first week of Oct. this last year and was under the impression that early Oct. was a slow time of the year...WRONG!

After making the plan 8 months out...come to find out:

The first week of Oct. WDW hosted Media week and 2 new attractions had their grand openings plus "Wishes" made it's debut.

Schools down south were out the week before Columbus Day.

Couple that with the 7 for 4 nights Disney promoted during that time...it's seemed VERY packed to me!

But of course we normal go the first week of December.

We are going from the 12th to the 18th. I am expecting crowds, but I would be surprised if it were totally packed like last year.

I have high hopes for "our" week, the Epcot festival starts the day we leave and the PGA is in town the week after. I'm a little concerned about Columbus Day though.

You guys have a great trip! I know our extended bunch is already counting!

of the year to go. I have been there about 4 times during the golf tournament, and it had no impact on the crowds that I saw. But this year( and last year) Oct is not considered low season , so I decided to go 1st part of Nov.

If you ever been there during XMas , Thanksgiving, or Easter, your time will be a piece of cake!

Just plan, plan,plan............one of my favorite parts:crazy:

Have fun
Susan

Our last trip was in October to Disney (10/20/03 - 10/27/03). I must agree that October is definitely not the slowest part of the year (though I'm sure it doesn't compare to Disney crowds in July) . There are many events going on in October, such as the start of the Food and Wine festival in EPCOT (not sure if it starts when you are there) and MNSSHP in MK. fyi.. temps are in the mid-upper 80s. Although it gets rather crowded, my advice would be to try and plan your activities ahead. Even with the crowds we were able to do everything that we had planned to do, AND MORE ! Have fun.

DH and I will be at WDW the 14th-21st and then we are doing the 3 night Disney Wonder cruise. I have not been in October since 1994 so I am hoping it is a lot of fun with Food and Wine and MNSSHP!

Me me me! :bounce:

We'll be there 10/7-10/11. We're doing Columbus Day weekend because we are a little conservative about missing school so we're just taking the Friday and using the following Monday, holiday, for travel back to Atlanta. It'll still give us three full park days, and we're going to MNSSHP. (Kids will be 5 and 7.)

If it's real busy because of the holiday, I agree with the other post-ers in that it would probably still qualify as "moderate" attendance and not "heavy" as it is around the big holiday times.

I always prepare strategy for crowds. That way, I'm not surprised or disappointed and it's gravy when the crowds are not bad! (Like late January, man! Sat. at MK and we walked on half the rides!
 )

10/12 - 10/17 for TKD Nationals! I can only hope the crowds were like last week, 15 minute wait for just about everything.

My turn now! DH and I will be there on Oct 8-15th and we cannot wait. It is our favorite time of year to go to WDW. The crowds are not bad. We have always been able to accomplish everything on our list so have a great time and enjoy the weather which is usually beautiful.

We will be at the BWV 10/17-10/23......with DH,DS and fam....looking forward to the F&W Festival....this past yr. we went around Columbus Day....crowded that wk end and hot.....DDinLaw wanted to do MK on Columbus Day and we did....lots of Brits there... who were told it was a' SLOW' time.....we are looking for a bit cooler weather....just take the G-Kids out of school for the wk...they do great in their studies and we tutor.....

 Thanks for the input! SO looking forward to MNSSHP, unfortunately Epcot wine festival starts the day we leave! Oh well. Lots of first timers going - both kids and adults! How long does that counter say again?? TOO LONG!

ttichenor,
You might be mistaken on the Food and Wine Festival dates. It will be running all thru October and the 1st two weeks of November.

wow there's going to be alot of DIS fans at WDW in oct.!!!

we'll be there oct 9 thru16 for our 25th anniversary:bounce: :Pinkbounc

our honeymoon was there so it seemed fitting to go back for the 25th (there were lots of trips in between though!!!!)

have a great time in the "world' everyone!!!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Forgetyourtroubles, I sure hope it's going on! Must have gotten my wires crossed. Need to cut & paste info into my Passporter!

:) :) :)

We'll be there Oct. 9th-17th. I'm sure there will be plenty of crowds during the holiday weekend but hopefully it'll clear out for the last half of our trip. We usually go in May but since our DS7 has 4-1/2 days of school the week of Columbus Day (teacher conferences) we felt we could easily take him out of school for that time frame.

Cannot wait to go!!!!

we will be there the first week of Oct 1-6
hopefully the crowds won't be to bad and the weather will
be great
we hope to do MNSSHP

we always go in the spring so this will be different for us:D

Starting to get a little anxious regarding October 9-16 for us. Columbus Day weekend to start and then Florida schools out end of week. Yikes!

How many folks still get out for Columbus Day and will the Florida schools factory into attendance tremendously?

Thanks!

MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE GONE DONE EVERY OCT SINCE WE GOT MARRIED. LAST YEAR, BECAUSE OF TIME SHARE ISSUES, WE WENT DOWN IN THE LAST WEEK OF SEPT. WHAT A DIFF, THERE WERE NO PEOPLE THERE AT ALL!!! THE PARKING LOTS WERE EMPTY, AND NO LINES AT ALL, WALKED ONTO EVERYTHING! IT WAS KINDA WEIRD, NEVER SAW IT LIKE THAT BEFORE. THIS YEAR WE ARE HEADING BACK FOR OUR 4TH ANNIVERSAY IN OCTOBER. I DO REALLY ENJOY GOING IN OCT BECAUSE THERE IS LESS RAIN, BUT MORE PEOPLE. SO YOU KINDA HAVE TO CHOOSE ONE OR THE OTHER. THIS YEAR, I GUESS WE'LL DEAL WITH THE BIGGER CROWDS! OCTOBER IS NOTHING LIKE SUMMER TIME THOUGH!!!!
